Ships Python Owners' Thread

I nearly got bagged today, went to upgrade my distributor and lasers for the first time and a pair of nasty fdls tried to 1 shot me with what I assume we're railguns! Good job I kept the weight down, I was on a travel fit and managed to very bravely retreat with 62% hull left..
Well done. A close escape is a victory all it's own!

So, I am slowly getting the hang of this ship - noone tells you that the pitch rate increases on this ship when you thrust down and pitch up and are in the very bottom of the blue zone for this ship on the throttle. As a question do any of you use railguns with this ship? I managed to by some miracle unlock a grade 5 lightweight with super harmonic something last night to try to module snipe powerplants and such but the damage seems.. not great. However I did manage to upgrade my 3c cannon to high yield - and that thing is fantastic!

Man that takes a while to set-up! Its useful though because now I can see I need to work on my dirty drive roll.. which was pretty bad from what I can see now - eitherway, should I stick with the railgun or swap out back to two phased sequence pulse lasers? Any improvements I can make? Still working on engineer unlocking.. I have a lot to do. This isnt pure combat but for looting haulers. So... thoughts welcome? or is this noob going about it the wrong way?

I use a rail (feedback) on mine. The top larges are frags though (soon to be replaced by a pacifier) and the medium is also a frag. Bottom large is a plasma. It's OK, but not optimal. I'll be changing it up soon.

is that a bounty hunting/pvp setup? It sounds interesting, ive not used frags or plasmas yet, I enjoy the multicannons far too much from my #winmatar days

It's supposed to be, but range and speed really isn't good enough yet. I'll need some rerolls on the dirties and I'm hoping the pacifiers give it a bit more distance on the shots too. If that's the case I'll go with three pacifiers and possibly two rails.
It is intended to be a bounty hunter that can pvp. So far it's just a hair under par:

Those were some good brawls, I wish i was that good!

Hopefully I can get rich enough to by a second python and fit it with the shield cell banks and such. Is heat generation on a target a good thing to use in pvp? Would it be able to force out opponent heatsinks to counter shield boosting? I'm sorely tempted to go for a something with heat gain to cook ships alive, unsure if its a stacking effect though

2 downsides to heat generation weapons (thermal Cascade and shock):
1 it seriously reduces your own damage potential.
2 it will get you on a lot of kos lists as it is generally reviled by all.

That said, it can act as a suppressant to some degree. Personally, I think it's really not worth it.
I'm a low level pvper though. Best tip I can give is to record your fights and die a lot! Seriously. It gets rid of the jitters and you learn faster. Also after sticking it out in a fight you'll find most pvpers pretty cool and they can give heaps of advice.
Also, you can get a lot of good advice on Discord. This is the one FD officially links but there are quite a few others you can go to from there (like GCI).
Anyway here's the invite:

Thats a shame, it would be fun to constantly make someone overheat and fry their modules, its more of an attrition tactic because I don't think I will stand up in a straight up dps battle with my level of engineering currently so trying to think around the disparity gap I have between the established and my green self by using some clever utility.

Its funny, i don't tend to get the jitters in this game so far in pvp (landing on a supernova out of jump gives me more jitters lol) because the loss is less harsh than eve. That might change when my meager wallet shrinks, while combat is much more engaging and fair - the possibility to bug out is awesome and the prospect of space jousting someone I find exciting!

Although at the moment my primary objective is making money from hauls rather than popping people, i get nothing from a blown up ship - not sure if I can justify shanking someone to death just because at the moment
Thanks for the link! I will check it out.

Good stuff. Hope it's useful.

I removed all of my weapons today. I use my ship as a passenger ship, with some cargo ability. Today I was interdicted by a Vulture with a Master level pilot and I realized that I am *not* a very capable fighter in a Python (I don't really fight in general, though). The ship moves too slowly for me to attack effectively (my style is more akin to fighter style with short, lower power attacks and high maneuverability), so I just removed the beam and canon weapons, and made my shield a 5A so I could more easily protect the hull while I low wake out.

Yep, makes sense. Python is good for a lot more than just combat and if you aren't gonna pewpew with it, may as well shed the weight/power draw etc.

I put the python on a diet since I went on an engineer unlocking spree.. I just need to unlock light weight collector/hatch limpets - its not top of the line engineering wise, but the mass reduction makes a huge difference with the agility. One thing I did do was downsize the distributor - the sideeffect of that was completely unintentional, but now it has taught me to manage my energy distribution all the time in a fight. Unsure on weapons, I still have that railgun, and I also have another multicannon i can overcharge, unsure what I want to do just yet, but the guns work which is the main thing i guess.

I tested it out in some combat zones, and it felt like I was flying a viper of sorts. Really loving it at the moment. Going to back off grinding engineers for a bit and try to make some money again.

It was worth the effort, the engineers actually gave me a bit of direction although some of the unlock methods are just simply horrific. Delivering 6 units of lavian brandy 8 or 9 times in round trips is not a fun and engaging mechanic..

I love the ship. For me, as someone who adored the Asp Explorer, the Python is the next logical conclusion up the ladder, IMO. It has a greater capacity, but can still dock at outposts. Since I usually just outrun pirates and such, weapons just add weight I could siphon into the jump range, which is only 17.8 ly. I wish I could improve that. If I could get the Python up to about 24 or 25ly without losing passenger capacity, it would be the perfect ship.

Oh , I sent the ugly-uncontrollable-drifting-rabbit-cage (aka AspX) to closest star with boost, when I got the precious Python. Was one kind of a feeling, should have recorded it! ;)

Now I love to troll pirates - there is no better feeling than hearing "oh, give me cargo worth of..or I'll burn you". Then mining laser disappears and the pirate(s) get "what took you so long, mate?"..
Let's just say pirates' bounty vouchers compensate for the nerfed income from mining activities..lol

I take it you don't do engineers?
Nope. I have no interest in spending days and weeks at a time gathering materials in order to play a slot machine that might give me the boost I need, or might end up being an exercise in futility.

Something like this? not enough weapons for my tastes but it should be viable as a passenger ship

Now THIS is awesome! Thank you!

If you happen to have the mats laying about (and you just might) any improvement is better than none. Farseer is one of the most user friendly of the Engineers.

!

Honestly you might already have the materials needed. People that complain are mostly after perfect modification or getting all modules modified - they need lots of materials and luck. I never needed more than 5-10 rolls to get a very good result . Those you can achieve without grinding specific elements and you might have already in pocket. You might need to visit a planet or unknown signal sources several times, in worst case, but nothing that can be defined as days or weeks grinding.

Also remember that G1-G4 level engineering you can do with easily accessible materials and they offer significant boost already-you might not even want G5 at the end.. Just give it a test, nothing to lose or fear about. You can check Farseer's recipes on Internet and see what's missing in your stock prior going there..

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Increased_Range_Frame_Shift_Drive

You can bring her exploration data to unlock higher levels, thus reducing materials needed. Just log off and on after selling her the data since the game might not register it immediately.

And to get FSD maxed at level G5 it's easy, if you have no other engineering mods. Some people here mentioned that RNG gets nasty after 1st modified module and my experience is the same.
