Yea, my bad. The beams are gimballed. The PAs are fixed. Sorry. ;)

All good. I was being pedantic. I know you didn't mean the PAs were gimballed and by convergence you meant for the gimbals on the three larges. You made perfect sense. I should be the one to apologise.

I came to a bit of a realisation about the python last night...

I've been using it like a more multirole version of my dropship....And I didn't like it and haven't been 'feeling' it. But last night i was doing some smuggling missions for my miner faction and it clicked!

The python is a supersized Viper IV!! NOW I get it!

Oh yeah and I gave it some white paint!

Viper 4 is a mini Python.

I tried a cannon under the nose once, but I'm such a lousy aim it was pretty useless for me. Currently I run 3 large beams and two medium PAs, all on gimbals. These allow me to keep the guns on the target longer, and if I want to try shooting a ship at longer range, or they drop chaff, I just unlock and use them like fixed. Weapon convergence on the Python is one of the best in the game.

Enjoy your Python. IMO she's one of the best all-around ships available. :)

Thanks I will look at that loadout as well, being new to the python and to a big ship I have no idea on the most effective load outs for it.
How do you set up to deal with the heat management?

after selling mine about a year ago to get my conda I recently reacquired one and full a rated it...terrible jump range at 12LY even with FSD engineered, but she is ready for any griever/pvp/pirate/etc

How the heck have you got it fitted to have such a low jump range?! Even fully combat fit with unengineered FSD A Rated it gets over 13 for me!

How do you set up to deal with the heat management?

Heat management is a combination of low heat weapons (efficient modded lasers and PA or inherently low heat weapons like MC, cannons etc) and G1 low emission power plant mods (multi roll to get one with good efficiency and little or no power reduction) have a look at a 5 x efficient PA build I put together recently it's a fantastic big ship killer (bit of a pain with small ships though :() but even in sustained combat I don't have any heat issues.

I won't claim that my setup is 'most effective' from a spreadsheet perspective, but it works really well for me, and I don't do spreadsheets. ;)

My ship is modestly engineered, in that I have a G3 overcharged PP (G5 generated too much heat), a G5 charge enhanced PD, and my beam lasers are all G5 enhanced. I can't mod the PAs. I think I have a special on one of the beams, but I don't specifically go after those. I just like seeing those jagged furrows all over the NPCs when I'm up close. And they take down shields nicely. Even Elite condas trying desperately to keep their shields up with SCBs and heat sinks. :D

The lasers will not overheat the ship by themselves, no matter how long I hold the trigger. I have heard the heat warning a few times when bouncing back and forth between the beams and the PAs in the heat of battle, but it's barely a blip and no damage is done. I've been running this setup for a while now with no ill effects.

When taking on smaller/faster ships I don't even use the PAs unless the NPC is stupid enough to let me get close. Besides, the beams make short work of the smaller ships anyway. The PAs really become useful on the medium and larger ships. And they are helping me work on my fixed wep skills. :)

My dream Python would be pre-nerf spec'd performance/shield wise, and have 3 G5 efficient C3 beams and two G5 overcharged C3 MCs, but I doubt FD would give it to me, even if I promised to play Solo only. If I had that Python I'd likely sell the Corvette. Ok, I'll stop dreaming now.

After long and hard work with my drifting rabbit cage (AspX), I finally got the Python.Bought the right modules, made some engineering.. love that ship so far.
I couldn't stand AspX unpredictable and broken flight model and especially lateral & vertical thrusers-they almost made me quit playing :( Was such a relief sending the cage at full speed to nearest star and moving to Python!
So please accept one more member to the club. Now I think I need to bring it for repaint, but have no idea which one to pick ;) priorities, priorities.. decisions everywhere..

My attempt at a pirate python

So i'm pretty new to the game, couple of months at most. It was hard to get my head around how to make money, and grinding resource sites is something that I found was the best way. A few weeks of grinding and seeking out cash and I managed to scrape enough together to get myself a python.

Started in a viper mk3, loved that, went to mk4, traded that for a vulture (great ship but limited). Got bored of being a good guy - so now i've become a space pirate. Just started my forray into engineering and building myself a pirate python. The ship looks great and with a bit of engineer love of my thrusters its becoming a fairly reasonable ship imo!

Fitted with 3xOC multicannons, grade 3 sadly gimballed
2 x pulse lasers - gimballed
2 x 3A collector limpets
1 x 3A hatchbreaker
128t of cargo
22LY jump range

FSD, wakescan and some shield boosting utility mounts. Kept powerplant at D to keep weight down, still working on trimming the fat but I need more engineers to do that I think. Only got 3 unlocked so far.

I may not be one of the cool guys with an anaconda, but i like this ship so much I splashed out on some paint for her. The game has a lot of potential, I came from eve and the scrapping and disabling of ships is a great feature.

Just signed up and i'm keen to learn from the more experienced commanders, particularly python pilots!

Starting my forray into engineering while having fun with being a dirty pirate.

3 x G3 multicannon - overcharged with some cool effects (grade 3)
2 x G2 pulse lasers
G3 dirty drive thrusters (a rated)
Hatchbreakers
2 x Cargo limpets
wake scanner
shields and hull upgrade modules

only got 3 engineers unlocked, but looking for more - enjoying the 128t of cargohold for liberating low temperature diamonds and slaves from those greedy traders. Still really new, around 2 months old. Got my python after some serious resource site grinding and the money was so slow that I wanted something more fun to do, so now turned piracy. It certainly requires a different skillset than blasting things and hitting boost, i'm enjoying it anyway. Love my python so much since it was a cool looking ship that I got some paint for her.

Trying to keep the weight down, but I think I need to unlock more than 3 engineers to get the ship balanced the way I want it, but so far its working pretty well with decent agility. Nothing on the viper mk3 I had or vulture but not bad for this big ship!

Looks fun. If you have OBS or some other way to record, I'd love to see it in action.

I don't unfortunately, I would probably need up upgrade my pc in order to do so. I'll have to have a look. I quite enjoy nipping around low and anarchy systems in elite. Managed to double post as I didn't realise I was being moderated apologies! I'm waiting for someone in a super modified monster ship to just ruin my day, which will inevitably happen. I need to get on those engies, maybe by that point i'll have a new graphics card to stream/record with.

Farseer will give you the basics to get started.

I don't pirate, but I do bounty hunt. While not the best at bounty hunting (her agility is decent, but not great) my Python does pretty well. Mine is set up primarily as a modest trader (150T cargo capability approx), but with a emphasis on being able to take out any NPC stupid enough to interdict her (including Elite condas). :)

My setup is as follows:

D-rated life support and sensors

G3 overcharged 7A PP
G5 charge enhanced 7a PD (for faster recharge time on weps/systems/engines)
G3 dirty drive mod on 6A thrusters
G5 thermal resistant 6A shields (with a pretty good roll)
G3 0A shield boosters that are a mix of resistant and overcharged

Currently running 3 large gimbaled beams G5 efficient and two medium PAs with G2 (best I can do) efficient mods. The beams handle smaller ships with ease, and the PAs are fun for medium to large targets.

No armor or SCBs, HRPs, or MRPs as most combat she sees in one-on-one or modestly sized wings and I won't loose my shields in those encounters. Dangerous wings like an Elite conda and two deadly FGS and she will discreetly bug out. I have other ships for handling the heavy stuff. And keeping the armor off keeps my jump range just over 25Ly unladen. IIRC, about 21Ly fully loaded with cargo.

I did have a bit of a close encounter with a wing of a Deadly Clipper, a Deadly FAS, and a dangerous FDS. I think I was down to 15% shields after that one. That FAS had engineered armor that took FOREVER to take down.

Anyway, just another example of how you can outfit a Python. This ship is so versatile, and there are many, many ways to outfit her. It just depends on what you want to do with her. I only own a few ships, but I'll never sell my Python. :)

Have fun with yours!

Even though I have a Corvette I will never sell my Python.. It is just a great all around ship and fun to fly.

Haven't tried out any pew pew in my Python yet. I'm so bad at it I'm afraid I'll just end up on the rebuy screen!

Tentatively have her armament planned as:
2x large Multicannons
2x med turreted bursts
1x large fixed Beam on the nose

Might switch the med bursts to med beams & the fixed beam to a 3rd multicannon. My preferred style of play seems closest to what Wrmiller described above: mainly focused on missions but able & prepared to take out any NPC that wants to interdict me. Undecided what I should do for mods on the multis.

Well, I run OBS from a 4 year old laptop (and I too long for the day I manage an upgrade on my gpu).
As for uber engineered ships taking down your ship... it will happen. Take it in its stride as it's the best way to get better at the only endgame in ED, PVP. Can be really great fun too! I'll see if I can get you a link to the GCI Discord. A lot of the pvp community is there and people can give tips and advice that actually works. Thick skin is the only prerequisite ;)
Not sure why but from my iPad I couldn't select the invite link so took a picture and posted to imgur:

I nearly got bagged today, went to upgrade my distributor and lasers for the first time and a pair of nasty fdls tried to 1 shot me with what I assume we're railguns! Good job I kept the weight down, I was on a travel fit and managed to very bravely retreat with 62% hull left..
