What's needed is a mining version of the SRV scanner that allows you to locate high ore density pockets in the ring (like POI's on planetary surfaces) once there fire off prospector drones and assess the content of the rock.

@ Almont I agree that you should be able to determine the mineable prospect of a system by it's description (detailed planetary information is available after all) assuming it's been detail scanned.

I would add to that a “prospector” SLF that would scan asteroids unintrusively and mark them for you. You could do this with the assistance of multicrew or with NPC crewman. Wouldn’t that be nice?

hello,

It could be just as realistic and yet still have certain systems, or planet + ring types where you have a higher percentage chance of finding much higher percentages of certain materials & much lower percentages (or none at all) of other, even common materials. And before you respond with "it does work that way", I am fully aware that the different ring types yield different types of materials but that is not what I'm talking about here. I'm referring to significantly different percentage chances for matierials in different systems, not dumbing the system down.
Of course you are right, i also would like a better outcome or what CMDR Ozram suggests, some scanner which shows me where is a better chance to find the materials needed.
Lately i was searching for Painite (Selene Jean) it needed around 50 Prospector Drones to find the first Asteroid and another 40 or so for the 2nd.
First i really was upset, but thinking about - over all, it was less than 30 minutes searching.
Is this really worth to complain? Imho - NO.

Interesting reading, but I think I'll stick with my original position on this. :)

Maybe someday I'll stumble across 500T of ore and 20T of painite or whatever it's called and I can just pick it up and go. It will never happen of course, but hey, I can dream can't I? ;)

An Old Style Stereo

Hello, I'm relatively new to the game, having invested about 3 weeks into the game. That said I've followed the games since early 2016, ever since then, I've wanted a Python of my own. Now that I have one I've noticed something peculiar sitting on the console. There is what appears to be a radio/stereo system on the left side of the pilot just behind the location indicator. Has anyone else noticed this, does anyone else really want to jam out to The Dark Side of The Moon while on the dark side of the moon, using what must be a ridiculously futuristic and therefore amazing stereo system that apparently comes with the Python.

The python isn't going anywhere, it's my multi purpose mission runner (and looks SWEET),but i just can't squeeze the jump range out of her, even with engineering . I love exploration and found a 60ly jumperconda on coriolis that's well within budget and can carry everything i need and then some. Me thinks it's time for a big boy ship (and the money is burning a hole in my pocket) :D

So I came out of retirement the other day and dusted off ol' reliable. I decided to buy horizons and got her a few nice and soft upgrades.

Grade 2 dirty drive (310 m/s top speed 412 m/s boost) along with a Grade 5 FSD (25 ly in full armor bi-weave battle rattle). Equipped with 3x large Multi's (corrosive rounds) and 2x seeker launchers. This old girl has new life and is perfect for all my multirole needs. It's nice to be back.

Very Nice! :)

I really, really despised the whole idea of engineers, and it took me a long time before I unlocked any beyond Farseer. But, now that I have about a dozen unlocked (I refuse to do mining, so a number of engineers are forever out of reach), my Python (Atomic Eggplant II) is a completely different girl. I have her configured as a multi-role as well, and use her as my general runabout for in and around the bubble. She can (and does) tackle any interdictor including Elite condas and small wings. She's a tough girl. :D

My first planet surface expedition was very interesting. I was having so much fun blasting the SRV through craters that I lost my ship. I wandered around collecting stuff and jumping off cliffs figuring I was doomed anyways (may as well enjoy myself). When my SRV was running on fumes I discovered I could recall my ship. I haven't had this much fun in a long while.

As you've figured out, your ship will leave if you stray too far away from it. I have a button on my throttle configured for 'dismiss/recall'. Folks who play in Open suggest you always dismiss your ship to prevent the possibility of someone driving by and blowing it up. I play Mobius or Solo exclusively, but still dismiss my ship just to keep her safe. :)

I'm not rich, I needed a pew pew ship in between exploring...

I was saving for a 'conda and saw an old build for a python which I could afford easily [I think it was MINI's] and would run unengineered. All the other ships I have flown I've had to compensate for shields or hull overly , not the python. Its a lovely ship, I dont need to be ultra aware and can handle anything a rez or cz can throw at her.

I have since mid engineered the thrusters for a bit more waggle. I love the fact I can choose to make it a mission runner and just swap over modules without much care or mathmatics. Fun thy name is Python.

Hi all proud Python owners !

I want to get my Python back from the garage to do some data and hauling missions to grind Empire rank.
I have an actual loadout with a good upgraded FSD, but I'm not sure of what shield and weapons I need to defend myself when interdicted by NPC.
Is there any loadout you can share ? I don't have ingineers unlocked besides Farseer.

Other question: I'm about to buy a skin for my Python as there's a discount, and I wonder what look best between vibrant red/orange and pirate skin. Anyone willing to share some screenshots ?

Thanks !

After I unlocked Farseer, I ran around with just her upgrades for quite a bit. But as Ceekay said, I 'discovered' that Todd and Dweller are relatively easy unlocks and these gave me some sorely needed upgrades as I was ranking up and getting interdicted by stronger and stronger NPCs.

It's a personality quirk, but I hate running from a fight... ;)

Thanks, I'm was not far from your build, just a normal 5A shield instead of the 6C bi-weave, and no hull/module reinforce package.
I'll try to unlock the 2 engineers Todd and the Dweller.

Again, thanks a lot for you help !
