Ships Python Owners' Thread

I've got other ships, but for some reason I always go back to my python.
She's an old girl, but she has it where it counts. I've used her for mining, trading, combat, and exploration; she's clocked nearly 110kly, and still going strong :)

(Can't post photos as I'm currently at work)

I love my Python Strange Magnet. got me out of more scrapes than I can count.

I'm just at the point where I fancy trading in an FAS for a python. Some of my modded modules will transfer straight across but I wanted to ask what would be a sensible starting point for modules, which are critical, and what limitations does the ship have that might be improved through engineering as i've unlocked quite a few so far?
I have plenty of modded weapons spread across a DBX, Vulture and the FAS so am mainly interested in the core and optional internals.
I still need to accumulate some cash to aford the modules that are not transferable although some of them could be sold to recoup dome cash.
I found 15% off of the ship but if there are sytems where the powerplant, distributor and shield gens are discounted that would be useful to know as well.
Thanks in advance.

Nothing fancy, but this is my general runabout for cruising around the bubble (and nearby) causing mayhem or whatever else sounds good at that moment. :)

Then internals are basically set up such that I can pretty much run whatever weps I want, get a good turn rate (when empty), and can boost forever if I get in over my head. It's no combat focus, but she has done the res/cnb/cz without any damage other than she needs to leave sooner than my more combat focused ships. I don't have access to G5 shield boosters which is why the shields are a bit lacking, but I have resists near 60% for explosive and thermal. She can take out a elite npc conda (or anything else) no problem, but cannot just 'sit' in a CZ like some other ships. But that's not her job. :)

The Python can be configured in a lot of different ways from wrmiller's armed trader to explorer to passenger transport to combat to miner its good at all of them, I currently run two one as an armed trader like wrmillers (please note these builds are heavily engineered so unless you have G5 access to a lot of engineers you will find replicating them difficult) and the other is combat focused.

Armed trader

Combat build, great against large targets bit of a pain hitting small stuff it's an excellent high intensity CZ ship

Mining build; it's a quick refit of the Armed trader so it's still a fairly capable combat ship

Hey Ceekay, would you sell me some of those G5 shield boosters? ;)

I'd give em away if I could m8! :)

I do think a player run engineered module shop would be a great addition to the game as not everyone has the time or inclination/patience to engineer every component, in fact I've had to sell high level engineered components due to lack of space TBH I'd rather give them away as selling them just wastes the time and mat/data I collected.

Thanks for the thought. :)

I may just get bored with this game enough next year to try mining, but I'm not holding my breath. Why the developers of this game had to make mining so detailed and cumbersome yet leave more important gameplay mechanics so simplistically dumb is beyond me.

You got you're engineers mixed up? Didi "booster" Vatermann wants 50 units of Lavian Brandy (what a lush! ;)) or are you thinking of Bill "Bromellite" Turner for PA's or Selene "Painite" Jean for armour, as to mining fit some kit to a Corvette or Python and you'll sort engineer access in no time.

PS happy new year!

I have to do the mining nonsense to get past armor Jean in order to get to the lady who does the G5 shield boosters. I think I have that right...

That's right, I have a beautiful Corvette. I hear they make great miners. Hmm...

And a very happy new year back at you! :)

I quite like a bit of mining and it's a fairly risk free way of getting cash early on in the game, I think part of the problem is the random aspect of prospecting, there needs to be a mining version of the SRV scanner that allows you to roughly locate roids containing the ore you want, in fact I got so bored mining bromellite I collected over half of it from passenger missions!

You're right about the engineer progression path (been so long since I unlocked them ;)), with a mining Corvette you'll get through 500 tonnes of anything in no time and collect the Painite using https://eddb.io/body just input your location and pristine metallic and away you go easy!

Uhm... Prospector limpets?

Not got G5 to all yet and Credit shortages mean that I may have to use a lower class of PP, PD and Shield gen (engineered) initially. I have sidestepped mining so far but might have to give it a bash.
Thanks to you both for sharing your builds.

Prospectors only tell you what's in the roid their attached to, what's needed is a type of scanner that can direct you towards a "pocket" of Painite/Platinum... rich rocks in a similar fashion to the SRV scanner producing different sounds and wave patterns for the various mat locations, I reckon the random nature of prospecting is one of the things that put players off mining, it even frustrates me and I like it! :)

I can't see that being implemented CeeKay, in my view it would spoil mining. The random nature is what makes it halfway realistic. If you could just go out and scan eg for the three P's then nobody would mine the other stuff. If a game such as ED becomes too easy the player base will just drift away. I am chuffed that I took the time to learn mining, combat and the hard grind it was to get my Corvette etc etc as it keeps me interested in the game and I can always find something new to do for a while when I get bored with any aspect of it. Just like in life generally, everyone wants it now, now now when us oldies will tell you the stuff worth having is the stuff you worked hard for even though at the back of your mind you doubted ever getting it, and when you do it is appreciated and valued. In my opinion he people who want the quick fixes are usually the fly by night types who will go onto something else as soon as they get bored and if ED made the game after their will we pretty soon wouldn't have an ED, just sayin'.

I'm not suggesting that each 3P roid gets tagged but that a region of higher probabilities gets displayed on the hud (like a POI on planetary surfaces) you still have to prospect each rock, I agree the youngun's do want it NOW!!!!!!! but an optional additional ore scanner might help mining become more popular, even for wr! ;)
