1. All animals and themes from PZ1 return
  2. All the new QoL features from PC2 (new paths, foliage brush, that amazing lighting system)
  3. Fixing old hitbox issues and add the ability to remove hitboxes from items
  4. Revamp the older animals to bring them up to standard
  5. New animal personalities and better herding behaviours
  6. Improve the guest and staff AI
  7. Co-op multiplayer! It would be really fun to build a zoo together.
  8. Generated zoo maps similar to Zoo Tycoon 2
  9. Seasons, this would make management a lot more fun.
  10. More special events for Challenge/Franchise mode to make management more interesting
  11. Multiple habitat gates per habitat please!!
  12. Animal shows! This would be particularly great for flying birds or marine mammals, and would be a sort of stealth way to add "free flight" to some of the larger birds while keeping them as mostly functional habitat species.
  13. Eggs for birds, reptiles and the platypus - Incubation and such would make management more interesting and different.
  14. Allow us to fully customise animal stats in sandbox mode.
  15. All terrain textures on every map.
+1 to everything here

- completely remove the exhibit box system in favour of a more advanced movement system for smaller animals that allow for custom smaller enclosed habitats where the animals can free roam inside and have humidity work similar to current heaters with the access point to the enclosure being a smaller trapdoor rather than a full door the keepers must fit through.

- add flying birds with either free flight or massively inflated jumps no exhibit boxes

- add aquatics as if they were habitat animals that never leave the water

So we now have 2 methods of improving the exhibit animals problem

  1. Add a modular exhibits and lots of customisation options
  2. Burn it to the ground, make everything a habitat animal
I don't know which side I want to turn to lol
I think I would prefer a compromise, some larger animals become habitat animals, lizards, snakes ect, then we get more modular and customizable exhibits for the remaining smaller animals like insects and arthropods

Working playgrounds! It is still insane to me that we have a zoo game without working playgrounds. I hoped they would become a thing when we got the guest education interactive stuff. I don't know any zoo without playgrounds. Nor do I know any kids going to the zoo only for the animals. All kids get bored with the animals fast and want to play in the playgrounds.

PC2 QoL upgrades obviously

Proper herding behavior. Especially babies and moms, but also species that are known to stick together in real life.

Full animal customizability in sandbox (coloration, genes, age). I mean come on. It is sandbox. The whole point of sandbox is that you can do whatever. Yet we are forced to use mods to even have a decent chance at getting color morphs.

No items locked behind career/franchise mode. I don't want to have to resort to mods to get the 'reward' statues. Lock them behind gameplay in those modes if you must, but don't lock them for sandbox mode players.

Everyone's pretty much voiced my own thoughts, but I have one that I will NEVER stop mentioning:

More realistic and useful outdoor path textures that aren't painted over or themed like the Africa pack path or the golden temple floor. Plain bricks, stone, white concrete, etc. Ideally all flexicolor.

I'm gonna be honest I really feel like snakes as a habitat animal just wouldn't work at all, that would be an insane amount of work to look remotely ok.

I doubt it would happen because of how impossible making a snake rig would be, but it would be pretty cool if it did

Features that are gonna be in because Planet Coaster 2 already has them:
  • Improved Pathing system + Flexicolor paths
  • Piece scaling
  • Vehicle customization (based on how you can customize the coaster trains)
  • Foliage brush

Time for reading! Features I would like or expect the sequel to have:

1. Aviaries and tanks as part of habitat building. At this point for a sequel the main question regarding these two is not if but how. Ideally making an aviary or a tank should be an organic part of habitat building, that is, certain conditions must be met in a habitat so that it can be used as an aviary or a tank. Specially for tanks, but also for aviaries, the possibility of combining them so you can have a mixed exhibit would possibly be the best thing. Having them as separate systems from regular habitats would be an utter mistake as it would limit building mixed exhibits that so often are found in zoos.

2. Modular exhibit building. I personally don't find exhibits as bad as most of the community paints them, yes they are kinda boring but even then you can do some cool houses with the right pieces. For being a very first-time mechanic, it definitely was a step in the right direction towards the implementation of arthropods, small amphibians and reptiles into a zoo game. The idea for an improvement would be the customization by including at least 3 size options (S, M, L) for the box, with only the dirt/water/burrows in it when you place the animal, then the props of the exhibit can be selected and placed within the box (there should be an option with a preset position so people who dont want to customize every exhibit they make). Aside that, having a small array of small plant variants and pieces (without actual effect on the exhibit, simply for decoration) would also help a lot.
Also just as a note, suggesting exhibit animals should be somehow free roaming or have any kind of locomotion completely ignores the reason why the exhibit system exists.

3. Animal personalities. I think we can all agree that this would be a great way to further individualize animals. Personalities shouldn't be something incredibly complex, just a parameter that slightly modifies certain behavior weights. Overall the personalities would be what others have mentioned:
  • Playful. Uses toy enrichments more often.
  • Shy. Tends to avoid guests and other animals more.
  • Friendly. Follows keepers and other animals more often, performs more social animations or calls.
  • Grumpy/Agressive. Avoids other animals, makes other animals flee more often.
  • Lazy. Sleeps more often.

4. Animal behavior improvements. I just have two main notes because honestly animal behavior in the base game is already pretty well optimized and if they make it much more complex it will be a performance hell.
  • More accurate herding. Make herding animals herd better (not just walk in the same direction, but consistently stay close to eachother), and make babies stay close to their parents waaaaaaaaaaay more. (make it like half play around and half stay with mom/dad).
  • Sitting. Make carnivores and other animals able to sit, you see big cats and wolves sitting all the time but none can in the game.
  • Water surface animation. Only the swan has a special animation when swimming on the water, more animals should get that.

5. Vehicle driving. It would be amazing to have keepers and staff travelling your zoos on a trolley. Even better, let us drive the cart like in zt3!

6. Improved first person camera.

7. Photo challenges. I've said this before and I'll say it a thousand times, let players walk around their zoos and take photos, and make those photos have an actual impact (use them in publicity and for challenges in scenarios) to make the experience engaging.

I dont have much else, while improvements are very much endless these are the ones I want the most.

As well as having a fully customisable interior for the exhibits, similar to the diorama mode, one option I have thought of for exhibit animals could be to have the ability to completely isolate them from their exhibits and place them, almost like they were an inanimate object. They still retain the animations, but now can be posed into either larger or smaller spaces. Maybe have a few positions for each animal, depending on its behaviour (so for, say, a boa, you can have it either coiled up, sprawled in a more elongated position or looped as if over a branch).

Just so everyone is on the same page, I'm adding a few "rework base game animals to current standard" onto the table, are those requesting that, implying you mean model fixes, textures, sounds, animations, and possibly enrichment options all to be included in this suggestion?

Because we have existing reworks such as the Malayan tapir and bornean orangutan that didn't satisfy everyone's needs.

Yea that's what I mean really

I think the most importan change for me would be to fix the exhibit system. They are so restricting as they are right now. My dream would be to make them almost like one of those aquarium silutaion games where you place the box, then you can decorate it with small scenery pieces that the animals will actually respond to. Like making a habitat, just on a much smaller scale. The more realistic option would be making the walls removeable and giving us different, smaller, sizes at least. Also, this would need to come with a large amount of species to play with.

I also think the climbing needs rework, what if instead of giving every climbing piece a "path" the animals snap to, you make the climbing structure a part of the traversible area? Maybe the hands, feet and tail has some ai element that can detect climbable surfaces, then sticking to them and making it work that way? I dont have any clear thoughts but the snapping and glitching needs to change. Also, an updated system would allow for better brachiation

I think a "subspecies system" would be nice. Kind of like echo fighters in Smash Bros, this would be a way to add clone animals without it feeling like they take slots from other, more unique animals. With this, you could search for just "tiger" in the market, then picking between the bengal and siberian, for example. I would also make it so that all subspecies of the same species would be collected in the same "chapter" in the zoopedia, while having different pages. (Like a drop-down menu, making the zoopedia less cluttered)
This system would also make it easier for frontier to add these clone animals without making players angry that we got the african leopard while we already have the amur...
I could see this system launching with more subspecies choises for different animals, like persian leopard, eurasian brown bear and golden takin. Also, this would be the best way to add more breeds to the domestics
I would also like to search by clade in the zoopedia

TLDR:
Exhibits are boring, please fix
Climbing is broken, please fix
Zoopedia is messy, please fix

Now for some smaller features:
- Differing animal models, especcialy in antlers, horns and tusks
- I think rock climbing for mountain/cliffside species could be a neat feature, especcialy if they change the climbing system
- Eggs and nesting for appropriate species
- Please fix the lion (and others but this is the most important)

Mainly porting my list for the free updated meta, but also adding a lot more things, we have:

All the animals and themes for PZ1 returning.
Aquarium and aviary animals
A truRACS system for animals with horns, antlers, mane and tusks.
Remodel for the following animals:
Iguanas
PZ1 base game snakes
Grey wolf (also rename it plz)
Lion
okapi
Other animals are fine under my eyed, but woudn't complain about other remodels
A modular exhibit system, i might open a thread to put down my idea about it, but for now, a modular system which we can choose size and costumise it whetever we want sounds good.
Subspecie and breed selector: allows us to pick our preferable subspecie of animals like african buffalos, lions and tigers, alongside select breeds for domestics like the domestic goat and domestic pig.
A proper way to build nocturnal house.
Nocturnal, diurnal and cathemeral behaviours on the proper animals
Pre existing system on PZ1 being added for more animals (e.g Bathing for elephants, bears, birds and canines)
Reworked feeders, mainly to get realistically feeders
foliage brush.
Better guest overall, make they act more realistacally and naturally
Reworked franchise mode: a better shop UI, chat based trades, breeders and random events (i pretend to open a thread revolving around PZ2 franchise mode to give more details).
Animal personalities.
Zoo fame and famous/celebrity animals.
Taxidermy and modular statues.
Fossils and other biologic related education items.

I might add more later.

The first update to the meta-wishlist is now added to the first post, so far we have 149 suggestions and quite a similar pattern to the free update meta-wishlist showing the majority of us have not changed our priorities for game features.

The Top 5 suggestions currently are:
  1. Aviaries - 15 votes
  2. Exhibit rework - 15 votes
  3. Aquariums - 10 votes
  4. Full animal customisation in sandbox - 9 votes
  5. Terrain Paints for all biomes - 8 votes
