Quality of Life Improvement: Input LAT/LON Co-ords and have a Surface Waypoint appear, similar to the surface scan mission Waypoint.

Frontier, it is time you looked this community in the eye and answered many callings to your confirmation whether you're going to implement this feature or not. 43 pages / 640 replies and NOTHING ANSWERED. Be ashamed Frontier for you abandon the community this way.

Hmmm, we've got some development time available. What should we build today?

Let's see, the community are asking for something which would really add a QOL improvement to the user experience?

Nah, lets develop our own Comms tool a bit like Discord but not as good.

The fact that the biggest thread in the 'suggestions and feature requests' section hasn't got a reply from Frontier is very alarming to me.

So yeah, a week later it seems that I am the only one who give anything about this feature to be pushed through, isn't it strange that the largest and most replied thread on the suggestions section of the forum hasn't been replied to by anyone of the Frontier devs? Nowadays Elite's all about the gold mining?

You're not the only one who cares ;)

I know, luckily there are other people indeed. Let's cross our fingers that this issue is fixed in the next upcoming update.

There are two probabilities as to why there has been no official comments on this subject. First is that they are indeed working on it and want it to be a surprise. Or the one I fear is more likely, they still see it as either not required or unable to do it (for whatever reason). I want it to be the first but I really don't think it will appear.

Even if it does, you can bet you last penny that they will screw it up so that it's not really that 1) easy to use and 2) Useful.

I don't know if "surprise" would work at this point. Even if they finally get around to implementing something, I expect it will just be met with eye rolls and "about time" comments.

No. That would probably just be me. I'm sure plenty will be singing the praises of their initiative.

+1. Before finding the Bearing Tool I spend like 3 hr for an Tip Off once, which led me to forgo all Visits to all unmarked surface sites for a month or so. And even with that its still a paint in the to read those coordinates sometimes. I don't even want to imagine how VR people have to feel, always needing to leaver their game to recalculate their target alignment.
Don't make it fancy with bookmarks and whatnot if that's to hard.
Start with the Simple Input Field AND OR to make it useable for Controller/Hotas People, add a Long/Lat Indicator on the Surface Map for the moveable pointer and make it all a press of a button.

The lack of a coordinates tool seems to be either an oversight or a conscious decision to make things more skillful/difficult.

Having at some point done a ton of landing and searching, it does get easier, but can still be frustrating. It would make a lot of sense for a system to exist in game, and it cannot be difficult to implement since so many external tools are already there.

So I hope it will be included in the upcoming exploring content.

The only thing we'll need is answer from the devs wheter they are going to implement it nor not, we've been waiting for this for like a year.

They said in the Q&A after yesterday's panel that they want this & that it will be happening along with a bookmarking system but that it might not be done in time for Chapter 4. It also sounded as if the current POIs on planets will all be detectable using the new probes which does solve a lot of the problems regarding particularly new commanders accessing planetary content.

It's good that they mentioned that they want it.

What seems odd to me is why they can't include this in the Q4 update.

I added it into Captain's Log in about a week of on and off coding and UI design and all the code glue that entails - I had to learn about the Haversine Formula and I had to research into how to also calculate a 'direct' distance to a target location from an altitiude (CL2 does both depending on if your vehicle is on the ground or if flying your ship) and translate that into Python code - and I am just one guy.

Now. I'm not saying this is a trivial addition, as I don't know ED's code base and I don't know what goes on day to day in the ED offices or how dev time is allocated or even if they have enough devs there to do all the things that Frontier tries to get into the dev schedule for a particular update. On the other hand, to me it doesn't seem like it's such a monumental task to add something like what Captain's Log 2 now has, to the game, that it would take so much dev time away from all the other Q4 goodies - considering the outright benefits of adding such a thing to ED would give to all its players.
