Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

Not quite, it is deliberate but its not the original vision, the history of Elite...

Elite - 1 Copy sold for every BBC Micro in the country of the UK. Statistically every single BBC Micro in the UK had a copy of Elite next to it on the desk. Why so popular? Elite was made on the basis 'We made a game we wanted to play and hoped other people wanted to play it too'. They were right, we did.

Elite Dangerous - Origination same as Elite. 'Elite Dangerous is what I wanted to do in 1984 but the technology wasn't there'.....then kickstarter...then 'investor demands....then contribution groups (cant recall name and I know it changed from one thing to another)....demands for an Open game.......demands for an MMO ('Its not an MMO')...the demands for PVP...the demands to stop PVP & Ganking (Block is the preferred Fdev response)....demands for Solo mode (originally was going to be solo)...etc etc. It all meant ED became a game designed by Committee or the Community upon release. it was trying to be something it wasn't originally planned to be because of too much input from the loudest people.

Fdev should have learned to say No a lot earlier and not tried to please everyone. They should have done the game they wanted and then built on it instead of trying to do too much at once or morph it into something else and then seemingly just leaving it 'unfinished' or disconnected (PP, CQC, Lore mainly)

In case you Don't know the phrase 'A Camel is a Horse designed by Committee'
It's been about five years, you know, they could have done at least something. I get they faced quite a few challenges during kickstarter and release, but since then there were only baby steps, and no attempts to either pull this game towards solo or better online experience, leaving it weird hybrid that doesn't cater to pretty much anyone. It just shows any lack of care or passion post prodution, only filling checkmarks for investors on features that never were actually fleshed out and remained in tech-demo mode forever. To be frank, Elite is beautiful game we all love very much, but let's be realistic, it still holds its niche because there's virtually no other games in the same genre brackets that's even worth considering. Last that could remotely compete with Elite for playerbase was X3 from 2005...

It would have been better if you'd linked from the first post - that put it into context better :)

I saw that thread appear - read a few posts and didn't bother again - reading through it I understand why!

@Brrokk - take a read from the start :)
Yes, it's a daft thread, but PvP as such isn't what he's complaining about. It's more that some other people wouldn't have him in their PvP group. Wanting to get into a PvP group presumably means you're in favour of PvP.

Are we insisting anyone play our way? No I don't think so. We're simply saying that if you play in open, expect to get shot at and don't complain when you do because there are multiple different options that are easily available to avoid getting ganked.
I didn't say insist. You said "expect", although I know it was in jest.

You had better play my way, or I'll put a pink paintjob on your ship, and make you fly around with a frilly skirt on it, listening to the teletubbies greatest hit(s)....

Orrrrr, I'll just run away....! I have no idea where this post came from!? ;)

Ps - I'd lmao though if I got ganked by you in a bright pink ship!

Sorry for suggesting you read it from post 1 - the link took me to the first 'new' post after I'd abandoned reading it.

Looking as an outsider the player wanting to 'join in' PvP was a little odd in his attitude, it appeared more to me to be 'baiting' the PvP group rather than a sincere wish to join in.

Good job you are not on console: Pristine_Bump's Krait is... yep! Pink :)

I've been clogged on in a sidewinder. Lots of gankers used to be pirates, but clogging turned them to murder. Game working as intended?
No, the C&P system is not adeguate and yes, some players will log whatever you do or say and whatever ship you use.
It’s probably not totally intended, but frontier has made one attempt already at revising C&P, soa second attempt probably isn’t high on their list of priorities.

Why "don't complain "?

If I go to a dog park I'll know I have a higher than 0 chance of stepping in dog crap. I'm still going to grouse a bit if I step in some. It wasn't what I wanted and its not an experience I enjoy even if it is a regular occurrence in such places. And now I have to clean up the mess while berating myself for not being more attentive, I can also berate the dog owner for not cleaning up after their pet.

Venting is healthy, holding in our feelings is not.

In your analogy, you have the option to go to an equally rewarding dog park without dog crap, but you chose to go to the one with the stink.

Seems to me the guy was just asking for a PvP group, and got interdicted by the few experts in interdictions we have here.

Which is hilarious when you think half of them already clogged at least once or are just on wifi in their mom's basement painting sidewinders orange.

It's gonna happen. I'm buying a pink paint for my FAS just to gank you now.

Because the game has provided you plastic covers to put over your shoes, dog poop bags so you can clean it up yourself as well as a two other dog parks that have no poop in them at all.
