Only one of the exploits I mentioned is a bug, the rest are exploiting game design which then means the game design gets worse.
Unless I missed something, the only actual exploit you listed pertaining to combat was FDev's capping of player bounties at 2M, to prevent friendlies farming each other.
Let's remember that there's absolutely no need for these exploiters to be gankers - we can be certain there are plenty of players who would do the same, just as there were plenty of players who did the recent "Eggsploit" to make literal billions off an unpatched exploit. The enormous profusion of fleet carriers, even for brand-new accounts, is ample evidence of just how much of the playerbase is willing to use such exploits. Let's not turn a blind eye to those facts while sanctimoniously singling out gankers for condemnation, because that would be either naive or dishonest, and I don't think you are either of those things.
Regarding pirate gameplay - the biggest problem with PVP pirating, which you can learn by asking anyone who has done it, is combat logging by the target. In fact, combat logging is what tends to lead all but the staunchest pirate roleplayers to ganking. But don't take my word for it - ask someone in Code or one of the other PVP piracy groups. I've heard this stated repeatedly from current and former pirates.
That 15 second menu log timer is, in fact, the primary reason why gankers focus on maximizing their alpha strike capability. That's the real timer we face, even moreso than the FSD cooldown. This is in fact an example of a
game rule driving a gameplay adaptation by players. Which is what gamers do, when playing video games. Not a shocking revelation.
Regarding your other comments - around various types of ganking occurring for organized events - are we to understand that you're arguing that, if I were to declare that I'm "doing a thing" - be it an exploration mission, or a charity stream, or whatever - that the normal rules of Open no longer apply to me? Because it seems like that's what you're arguing.
However, like we've talked about, it's the PVE co-op players who get short shrift from the way Open has been implemented. There's simply no way to have pure spontaneous co-op without also having the possibility of spontaneous PVP or ganking. That's how Open works - by design, apparently. Regardless of whether an event of some kind has been declared by some of the people who are playing the game. If it happens in Open, it's subject to the normal rules of Open.
The solutions are also provided by FDev. If you do not want to accept the bargain that Open presents, you have alternatives: Private Group and Solo. These are the game rules as delivered by FDev. This isn't me "laying down the law" or anything like it, or telling you you're wrong to be upset about it. It's simply how FDev have decided to implement their game. We all know this. The Fuel Rats often use Private Groups for this express reason, and do not engage in the use of escorts in Open because then it becomes "dial a PVP." This is them accepting the rules of the game and using the features of the game in a manner that helps them achieve their goals. Which are completely admirable.
So, anyways, those are some responses to your statements, based on what I've learned of the game in the short time I've played it. I know we're all entitled to our opinions and of course I respect your right to your own. I do feel like I've been able to provide some worthwhile food for thought, and while I know and understand that nothing I type will change your opinion of ganking or gankers, I do appreciate the opportunity to expand the scope of discussion and provide some rebuttals to your statements. Just for the sake of argument, as it were.
