I can't believe that 40 years later we are still having flame wars, it wasn't good then and isn't good now, just enjoy the system that you happen to game on.
My Amiga 500 was way better than any system we have today so there!!!

The bottom line is that a minimum spec PC for this game is currently inferior to a console. Until the minimum specs for this game are comparable to the base console variants, we can't really claim they're what's holding it back. Consoles have historically held many things back, but I don't think we're there just yet with this generation of hardware. Getting close though. At a any rate, the moment consoles do begin to become a burden, Frontier should split the platform builds once again and not hold the PC version back. I say this as an Xbox CMDR.
wow i didnt expect my little question to have 14 pages of responses when i got back, just read thru all that, and it seems there are a lot of different opinions, its not every person believing one thing. some are serious, some are funny, some are rude some are nasty. some insightful, some have said not this again bashing consoles. i guess from the amount of responses it was something people wanted to have a say on, otherwise there wouldnt be 14 pages.
as to some of the responses, i wasnt just asking the question about graphics fidelity or anything like that, i meant when frontier think about the possible things they could do in the game, are they now limited by what a console is able to do, for example i assume they will now not give big resources to VR. the current implimentation of VR is basically just letting you look around in your headset, and i cant imagine that changing, having your hands in VR being able to press buttons on your ships consoles, open doors, fix things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-uKhsC4m30 that is 25 minutes of lone echo gameplay, imagine if you could do that in Elite, but you wont because game is now limited. or is it ?
hi, dont you see, the min spec for pcs cant be changed, because elite is now tied to consoles also being able to run the game, thats what i was originally talking about, consoles are obviously less powerful in graphics, controllers cpu, memory, than what a pc is capable of, now elite HAS to work on Xbox and PS4 etc, it means, when frontier is thinking about adding certain things to the game, they would Have to be sure that those things could be doable on xbox ps4 etc.
We don't know. They have had VR in the game from the beginning. I see no reason why they can't add VR controller option down the line. Opening doors will still need a button to press no matter what tool is used. We shall find out when/if space legs comes out.
Judging from current rate.
I wouldn't hold your breath. We're 4 years into the game. Just about half way into the "planned" life of the game and this is how far we've come.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy... Well enjoyed the game but I have a hard time seeing more happening, and I'm usually the guy fast balling my charge card at screen screaming gimme..
Apples to oranges. Man you missed that mark by a MILE.
The Rolex still tells time.
The Ferrari still drives.
People pay for the luxury of it. Not what it does.
Would you buy Elite dangerous if it cost 10,000$ and did a few things similar games couldn't?
A Ferrari's value is entirely and purely perceived. In practical terms, it is worthless, as all it can do is burn fuel whilst contributing nothing new to an economy. (bar perhaps the rental market)
Nobody, and I mean nobody, perceives video games with that level of value.
LOL!
IKR? Kia makes vehicles that are more "affordable" and "available" but guess what, they're still CRAP and they still SUCK compared to other vehicles.
Making something more "available" to the masses doesn't necessarily make it "beneficial" to the market.
And with current GPU crypto craze, getting console to play games you love is smart thing to do.
PC maybe a master race, but current market is just screwed up in big time. I won't be surprised people will steer clear from upgrading PCs or caring to play games on PCs in upcoming year or so.
The graphics cards sections in Akihabara's shops look like what I imagine a North Korean computer store would look like... Nothing above a GTX 1040 available for anything approaching a reasonable figure (unless Zimbabwean dollars were reintroduced).
There is nothing personal or spiteful about my post or opinions here. Im simply putting forward my thoughts regarding console gaming and how (it being the bigger market) can stifel technology development in gaming. Of course there are valid arguments to be had that are contrary to that opinion.
Im happy that we have our console community here and of course you deserve to play the game. This isnt a territorial or emotional issue for me, i thought this was a discussion about the pro's and con's of mixed platform development, when one platform is dynamic and the other static.
LOL!

10k... pffft.
Heck there are some people who've paid that much for a game that doesn't do anything yet and funded to more money than ED will likely ever see in its entire lifetime.
I have no idea where you're driving with this thread.
Nope, it's not worthless, it's worth exactly as much (to the company that produced it) as someone's willing to pay for it.
As for addressing two points raised in this thread:
* Everybody trying to use PC to look down to console players need reality check. I tolerate PC only because I can run Linux and I can modify Windows heavily if I required to run it. If PC vendors (and *cough* Microsoft *cough*) would try to remove any of these freedoms, I am leaving PC and maybe IT industry for good. It is that simple. PC master race was an irony full moniker from Zero Punctuation and people taking it seriously needs serious check with reality. There's tons of clever, good gamers playing consoles only. Dismissing them as not worthy is not just arrogant;
* It is time to lay down in bed notion that if ED would be PC exclusive it would have more "in-depth" gameplay. People really need to leave their expectations at entry, because there is no game that does that and more and more evidence piles up it is extremely hard to do. Said that, Beyond series seems to extend lot of basic core gameplay nicely and even that what is there provides hundreds of hours of entertainment of people - again, not every game is capable to do that;
LOL!

Sorry. Any PC exclusive game is way better than any console game. Expandability, Storage space, ease of add-ons, etc etc
As for linux.. A hippy OS for those who want to sound cool. I was coding a decade or more before Mr. Linus even invented Linux, and how has it changed? A new GUI? It's a tweaker playground. That's about it. It'll never be anything more. It's a cult.
