R.I.P Michael Brookes

So sad, jeez :(
I met Michael when I visited Frontier and you could tell he was really passionate about Elite. He showed me, what as at the time, a chrome skin for the Anaconda. It took months before it saw the light of day on the store.
It took the time to answer questions I had and discuss things about the game. Really nice man. Can't believe he's no longer with us :(

Please Frontier, name a Space Station or something after him.

Oh dear, what sad news. He contributed so much to ED and Frontier.
Do we have any details?
Condolences to his family & friends!
He definitely needs an in-game memorial. At the very least a station, maybe a planet or system?
@sallymorganmoore
Sally, please pass on our condolences to FD friends & colleagues of Michael. We will miss him!

Edit
Searching for more information I’ve today found that apparently he already does have a station in-game, but given his contribution don’t think that’s sufficient. How about a Neutron Star named “SoonTM”?

Such sad news to wake up to.

Michael was without doubt a massive influence on ED and the people who knew him.

I always found him to be a perfect gentleman with a great sense of humour and a gentle spirit.

Way back before ED was announced and there was only a few of us here on the forum, we would regularly chat about anything and everything and when I was asked to be a part of the moderating team he was always happy to help and advise whenever it was needed.

Whenever we met he was just a kind and funny person who I always enjoyed talking too.

My condolences to his family and the Frontier family.

You will be missed.

Rest in peace Michael.

One of my most prized possessions is from the very first 24hr Christmas Charity Livestream that Frontier did. You had to guess/know his favourite book and then Mike gave away (!) this copy of Paradise Lost made in 1835! Along with his entry for the Drabble competition. It's never been read because every other page is still joined together and I even double checked with him once I saw these two things, that he was OK for me to have it. Which he said he was.

He is also a big part of the reason I can still play Elite as an early updated added the GUI Effects to the HUD (they cause the overlaid effects of Blue and Orange). The few times I tried to play during the original Beta I got a migraine within 15 minutes, there was a thread with a handful of us who could no longer play, which he interacted with and then within 5 days they had pushed an update that allows you to disable them 💜

He told me which system my avatar was in game. He told us there were stations orbiting comets, which lead to me creating a race that has been revisited 3 times and some crazy shenanigans dropping out next to one. He is the reason our UA journey was kickstarted back in 2015.

He was a truly amazing person.

just 😭

Very sad and unexpected news. He was a fantastic person and he forever has my thanks for being a big part of the team that brought Elite: Dangerous to us all. I have fond memories of having dinner with him and a couple of others at one of the Lavecons.

Please pass on my condolences to his friends and family Sally.

Rest in peace amongst the stars Michael Brookes.
