It's a long shot but one of the things I tried before switching the camera to a powered hub was unparking my CPU in the windows power options. Set your minimum processor state to 95%. I think you and I have the same processor so that combined with the powered USB hub for the camera should make a difference like it did for me. Also make sure vsync is off in game and also make sure your display drivers aren't forcing any settings on the game. (Haven't really used Radeon GPUs much) If all else fails I would set the graphics on low, turn down the oculus display quality a few ticks and try it. If you're still having problems getting 75 FPS then try knocking the in game resolution to 900p which I believe is 1600x900. That combined with the low settings and reduced quality should even give you smooth head tracking inside of stations. Unfortunately it looks a little too retro that way for my taste. I feel like I'm playing Descent in Dos. I'd rather have space look great, have readable text, and have my station experiences make me sick. If you've tried all of these options and it still doesn't work then I would think it's possibly driver based. For good measure although I think it was already mentioned, make sure you're using USB 2.0. Also have you tried uncapping your frame rate in the ED menu? I don't believe mine is capped.

Hope something out of that helps your situation. Once you finally do get it working you're going to be looking around with your jaw on the floor. Getting the head tracking smooth enough changes the experience completely. Don't settle for judder even if it takes a week or two to get it working right.

Also check the following link. I believe this hub would work well with the camera. Thinking about getting it myself as I am running out of USB ports.

Even longer shot....
What CCC are you running. I use 14.4 as I know there have been some problems with some newer drivers and as ED and DK2 were in Beta I've stayed with this config.

I may have some powered usb somewhere. I'll try to find it. I'll also try to set the processor alim to 95% min.
But for vsync and lower res i can't do that with the rift. In ed's options, everything is locked when i select the dk2 (1920*1080 + vsync on + 75hz). Am i missing something here? I would definitely like to try without sync or in a lower resolution.
My ccc is 14.501 and i'm running 14.12 omega drivers (latest beta, i switched to beta yesterday trying to find a solution, didn't help). Do you think i should give a try a rollback to a previous ccc build?

I just wanted to alt+tab and tell you that you are my hero.

Heh, thanks. :)

Hopefully the powered USB helps the OP as well.

I wonder if there would be a possibility to flip the image using SweetFX? I am not all that familiar with the DirectX FX programming, but since SweetFX can do all sorts of postprocessing, could it perhaps flip the image as well?

I got back. Unfortunately, i didn't find my powered usb. But i tried to play titans of space to see if there's any difference. The demo works great and i have no problem with the dk 2 on this game. So, may i assume it's not a cam/usb issue?

I checked elite's ingame fps with the ctrl + f and riva tuner from msi afterburner without dk2.
The results are pretty weird. For the tests, i was on my main monitor + 1080p + vsync off (ingame and in ccc) + the same graphic options i use with oculus.

I was near a sun, fighting ships in nav beacon for few minutes.
The fps ingame with ctrl+f = 150 - 240 (may have drop to 140 a few times when i looked into the sun).
Fps from riva tuner = 300 - 480 (exactly 2xctrl+f fps).

I tried oculus back, same thing than always, stutter when moving head (but the game is smooth).

Do you know why riva tuner give me 2x my ingame (ctrl+f) fps?

have you tried with msi afterburner and riva tuner off?? or turn upo the hardware polling period to about 2000ms?

iv had issues and a vr buddy just got lots of stutter after using msi, works fine for me mind, just a thought ;)

I tried yes. But i already had stutter before afterburner's install (i installed it in order to check my fps for this oculus issue).
Just for information, what fps should i have without oculus to get a smooth head tracking with oculus? Without oculus, is it 75 ingame fps vsync offf or 150 fps ingame vsync off?

Anyway, i'm sure my fps never drop under 140 without oculus with game fps meter (and 280 with riva tuner).

for a smooth 75 in the rift, id be saying 150-200 fps, its usually double for 3d plus 30% for warping

being honest, i upgraded my 7970 because it was on its limits with everything set to low, and was still getting stutter in certain places, that said, when it was 75fps, it was just as smooth as my 970

I've had a bit of stutter these last few night and like you my 7970's on its limits. Still running high settings thou.

New kind of Judder? My ship cockpit is "bouncing" up and down with my head STILL. Thoughts?

I have been using my rift with ED for 4 months or so. Overall, I love it. 980tx superclocked and a solid system (new, SS hard drive etc) good cpu. For the first time today, ever, I noticed once every 15 minutes or so my entire cockpit/screen/viewpoint whatever lol, would kind of "bounce" or "shake" for about 20 seconds....you could still play...but the effect was quite annoying. Then it was good for 20 min, then another 2 minutes of bounce.

Nothing blocking the ir emitter/camera thing. Nothing else seems set different than the last 4 months. Hmmm.

Anyone else ever get this? Thoughts?

Yes that is head tracking jitter. You will find if you move out of range (hand in front of camera) it goes away.

Not totally sure of source. Try different USB port (back of PC only USB 2). I and others have found that a powered USB hub eliminates this (I still get it some times but not like every 5 mins or so like I used to).

ENOUGH! VR friends, I Tried it all, GTX980, DSR, Low Set, VR Frame Rate guide,Core Park - JUDDER!:(

Hello everyone. This is an awesome community. I am so grateful for all of the help over the last few months. I have been with DK2 and Elite for 4 months now and, like many of us, it has been my favorite gaming experience of all time. Just amazing immersion.

I am running a pretty nice rig that many would consider a top of the line every day gaming computer. No, I don't have Titan Z's or something of that nature but I am running a Superclocked GTX 980, 1 TB Solid State Drive, w 8.1, i7 4790k 4.00 ghz, 16 Gig of new ram etc . Most gamers these days are using 600 or 700 series cards and, despite the few SLI 980 users or titan whatever they are called's, I am safely somewhere within probably the top 10% of what most gaming pc's need to run most products on ultra etc. Most of us who are using VR are old enough or established enough to spend a few bux so this is my point fellas . . .

With many of us pushing these pretty darn strong gaming rigs ...MAN...it is TOO BAD that we still have to deal with the Judder issues and low settings. I Know I know...we all talk about it. Just ....man. So close to a perfect simulator. So great. Just...a bit short of such GREATNESS.

I have done everything under the sun to try and maximize the ability to play ED without too much Judder.

- Pretty darn good rig, check
- Pretty much did everything anywhere in these forums to solve judder and clarity beyond my title's list, check.
- The last thing referenced in these forums to improve the VR ED situation I am trying tomorrow. Separate Powered USB for DK2, check (I say with a prayer).

The fact is, while 80% of the time trading or exploring there are no hiccups with judder....combat roles bring it out in RES like no other. I play all THREE roles of explorer, trader, and combat and every time I get excited to go blow ish up...I spend 45 minutes of decent fun in a RES and eventually just get bothered by the judder.

Isn't there something we can do, write, create, produce, explore beyond all the guide recommendations here to eliminate it?! There is so much potential with this VR tech and gaming and we are all so passionate about it...but if we all weren't persistent as all hell we wouldn't even be enjoying DK2 with ED at the 80% I mentioned. Yes I know it's a dev kit...but, LOL, my friends . . . don't rip me a new one here fellas....just had a fun gaming night of 2 hours on ED, poured a glass of Cabernet, and wanted to talk to my faceless friends about my pipe-dream plans to play ed smooth and clear.

Cheers : )

check your MB-settings.

At mine "Hyperthreading" was "ON" by default. Disabling it did a significant decrease of juddering. Its not gone completly, but i got no judder in stations anymore and at RES i only got slight judders with 10+ NPCs around me. GTX 980 with DSR at 1440p. All settings "high", no AA, no SS, no Blur.

I think after 1.2 CPU>GPU, so tweaking your CPU-Power and playing with you MB-settings could do the trick.

Play others games like dying light, alien isolation, euro truck 2 just to confirm that is ED that is not working fine. IMO ED is the worse VR "full game" vs dying light / alien isolation

I have an i5 4Ghz and a Stock GTX980. I play everything on High except Shadows which is on medium and it's totally smooth and utterly convincing. I don't get any FPS drops or judder while playing, even in stations or in combat. The only time I even get a slight hiccup is passing planets in SC but then you get this in the normal game without using the DK2 (i think it's graphics loading in or something).

Thanks guys... It appears we all have different results and "smoothness" is somewhat random / particular / mystical lol.

Hmmm, will try these ideas as well and report back.

a couple of things iv noticed regarding judder

sometimes, judder is incurred by moving the controller along with movement of your head, its very sporadic, and usually sorts itself out, another thing iv noticed is when my wireless mouse is on, i get more judder, with it off, the only judder im getting is either fps drop or the 1st issue when i move the joystick
