My Cure for Judder Post was moved, Hopefully someone will realize this works and pin it where it can be seen :) KingVr in the Oculus forums tested it with ED for me and says it's perfect. Most of my testing has been done with demos for now. I'm not allowed to post my Oculus thread link here, but if you search the term "Give Me Judder" on the oculus forums then you can follow the entire thread. Let me know how it goes. For now I have simply copied and pasted the majority of my thread below:

you fixed it how?

see my post on the rift forums here: search "give me judder" in the oculus ready games and demos section....this site won't let me link to my thread. I have copied and pasted my testing below though.
please let me know how it goes. This is for vista, win7, and windows 8

I believe the key is to disable Aero Snap, but leave aero running, even for windows 8. I haven't done any testing with Windows 8 or 10 yet, just 7...however Windows 8 should be the same even though most people think that Aero is absent from Windows 8. There are still bits of Aero in Windows 8 as you can read here: Frontier won't let me post this link

Disabling Aero Snap will also disable your ability to use the shift+win+arrow key combo- which is why this only works with Direct 2 Rift at the moment. Another side effect is that you loose that stupid jiggle feature, which could also be the cause of judder.

All this can be done by simply doing this:
1- click search in your start menu and type mouse but dont hit enter, look to the result and click "Change how your mouse works", then check the box that says "Prevent Windows from automatically being arranged when moved to the edge of the screen".

2. Put the oculus config into direct to rift mode

3. Start one of your direct to rift demo exe's

*note*- sightlines the chair is a power hog as it loads new textures everytime you move your head. For that one you need to hit F to view your framerate and once you see it hit 75 you should see the judder vanish. Actually the studdering during the loading of textures looks a little different then judder. I think it's just my slow ass hard drive (WD Green) causing that...but once the birds start flying around then everything should be smooth.

To disable snap in windows 8 just do this: cant post links here :-(
Most of these work mirrored automatically, a few don't. When mirrored I have checked fps and the rift is running 75hz while the main display is running 60hz....the way it should be

Working so far judder free in direct to rift mode:
Apollo 11- low persistence seems to be off though it says on. still smooth as butter
Sightlines The Chair
Arachnophobia
Don't Let Go
Birdy Kingland
Beneath 2.2- odd persistence issue bit slower then a blur :-/ not sdk 4.4 compat
Close Encounters
Crystal Rift
Helix
Dark Deception
Discovering Space
Dream Machine
Handcar Simulator
Rift Fireworks
Safari V01a- strange fps flutter and skip here and there, not judder
Ring Flight
Resistance V3
Pod Racing Island Map
Project Jump Scare
Pixel Rift v02- low fps and skips here and there but no judder
Vanguard V- worked judder free but froze with a low memory warning once shooting stuff
Ambient Flight
Airdrift
Affected v1.55- wow so awesome!
Vr Pong- has persistance issues
Crystal Coaster v1.2 64 bit
Technolust, (dont look at the big screen in the beginning)
gonna take a break and play something now that I have no judder lol

while I didn't make the post ED specific, I have several people now that have tested it and report back that it works. They were experiencing judder previously.

Yes! I get this problem. I'm using r9 295x2 -peace

You should read the thread, you might find an answer :p lol But for the future...posting that you have a problem without giving the specifics of your system is kinda like... weird. Much more goes into a system then just a GPU, and in these cases the GPU often is not the problem. It's the equivalent of someone simply posting "sorry, but I can't help you", without ever hearing your problem. :p

I didn't mean to post that for everyone to read. That's why it looks so out of place. It was just for one person. Thought I was on reddit or something... I don't know. As for judder and stuff it would seem that AMD tells us just what it is and why it happens in their write up on their new LiqudVR drivers. I don't think anything will fix it until we get new SDK from Oculus or AMD gives us the new drivers. And it seems like their tech only works on AMD video cards. I'm playing at 1440p at 75 fps. My problem was the problem someone else was having with the Oculus just jiggling for no reason. Then when you put your hands over the unit the GFX turn gray and it stops... Then it starts again like 3-5 min later. It's strange... And it doesn't happen all the time. I can go days without it happening. -peace

well geez...good info there! I've been testing the last 3 days so totally missed out on the liquidVr...strange because it looks more like Mantle theology in all their charts and the write up. Have you tried the method in my post above combined with kingVR's 60hz??? Personally I think AMD is trying to make up for loosing Mantle to DX12. Another thing I'm working on is physically flipping the screen inside the rift itself instead of using the driver to do it. That cuts down on 1/3rd the work of the GPU. Try putting your rift into portrait flipped mode, and then even though it's upside down crank up the detail and take a look. Seems much smoother??? It's because Windows has a glitch with running portrait mode. Turning off snap seems to fix a lot of it, but flipping the screen would fix it so you don't have to dissect aero. And before someone messes up there rift, I'm not suggesting anyone flip their screen :) The cable ends are extremely sensitive and the conductors are very close together. I tested this upside down in Dying Light and it seems the added performance of portrait flipped over portrait mode is enough to make the game playable :)

Yeah I'm glad to see people like you trying to get it working right. It's been very upsetting watching day after day go by and no new SDK from oculus. It would seem that you need a GearVR to get any love from them now. This problem should have been hot fixed a month ago. Yes I did flip my screen after seeing people over in the Oculus forum talk about it. And I was shocked. I was like really??? No way... then I did it and I was like DAMN it's smoother. I would flip my screen in a heart beat. but my thinking is right after I do, they will fix it with a driver or something. Lets hope we get some new drivers today from Oculus and the wonderful team that has made ED will put them in the game ASAP. I can't play this game on a monitor anymore. Looking over my shoulder in the new ship and seeing a ship in back of me in the new beta almost made me burst into joyful tears! I was like WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I wasn't ready!!! this is to good.. Then judder judder....... :p

That would be one of my threads probably...and it needs a firm bump to stay uptop :) anyone wishing to help keep this a known issue then please search "Judder Be Gone" on the oculus forums. I see that lots of people saw the thread but noone really posted their experiences. I had lots of confirmation via PM's though. We can't expect to get a whole lot done without the masses behind it :) Thus the problem with these guys all taking care of the mobile side :-(

I am worried about flipping the screen though, I suspect that it might not work just because of the fact that the DK2 is using an overclocked screen. It will take me 3-4 interconnects to flip the display, and in my experience with overclocking my main display to 75hz I have found that the hdmi cable version and length make all the difference in the world as to whether or not the overclock will be successful :-/ I've never tried downclocking the rift to 60hz though...might make a difference for Elite Dangerous! The cables should be here any minute, if UPS is willing to hold a railing while climbing stairs covered in 3-4 inches of ice lol :-/

As a ED player with about 60 hours in the game with DK2 i can say that when i have solid 75fps, its like heaven. You really feel the prescence like you are there. I have that out in space and outside station. Howerever it drops when cruising by the planets and inside stations. I think oculus demanding 90fps in the future is to further avoid motion sickness for as many people as possible. But obvously its going to exteremely taxing on the computers and modern games. Hopefully they can solve it with a perfect crossfire or SLI solution, but where not ehere yet. Still DK2 in ED is a bliss when its all working at 75fps. It still have low res flaws and strain your eyes somewhat, but man, its really is a great expeience.

I few days ago i spent about 6h straight in the DK2 hauling cargo all around. And i didnt feel ill for one second. Just came out with a smile, and wanted more. Thats how good it can be :)

The biggest problem i have so far is the galaxy map and have to type in the name of a star i want to go to. I wishe they had some virtual keyboard inside the game so I wouldnt have to lift up the DK2 and type.

Look down through the nose hole of your DK2. Works for me when I need to find a key. Having an LED lit keyboard also helps since I play in the dark. Also practice typing with something like "Typing of the Dead" as usually I can type names of planets without ever checking the keyboard. I just have to look down through the nose area when searching for individual keys when VoiceAttack doesn't understand what I'm telling it or to find the home row on occasion. Heck, usually I can even check my main monitor by tilting my head up and looking straight down. Might also help to close one eye. Hope this helps.

Shaky stuttered head trackin @ 75fps

Hello everyone,

I just got a dk2 and i can't get it work properly in extended mode. First of all, i want to say that i followed every step in the cybereality's thread ("havin problems with dk2? please read this!") and i try to get this working for past 15 hours.

For example, in elite (same thing in alien and all "extended mode" apps), the head tracking stutter a lot while the game is smooth and run at least at 75 fps. My config is i5-3570k - sapphire radeon 7950 3go and 16gb ram. This "head" stutter happens in every situation, no matter wich graphic level i choose (happens even if i set everything on the lowest settings, settings that gave me more than 200 fps ingame on my primmary monitor if i turn off the rift and vsync)

I saw a post from few months ago that said:
I am also getting the duplication effect, or what I would prefer to call it, the "drunkard" effect.
However, when I rotate the display 180 (flipped), then the drunkard effect goes away.
Of course, there is no way to play a game upside down - with the head tracking also being inverted!
Still, I wonder if some of the DK2s have had their displays installed the opposite direction at the factory.

It happens exactly the same thing to me. If i flipped the dk2 screen on catalyst control center, then i have no more stutter (no more like ZERO, but i can't play since screen is upside down). I've been trying to get this work for the last 15 hours like a zombie so you can imagine my surprise when i removed all this "head tracking stutter" just by "flipping" the screen at 180° in catalyst control center.
Still, i can't play, when i try with screen non flipped, it's just unplayable (good way to experience TRUE motion sickness  ). Anyone knows something about this?

Are you connecting the USB cables from the head set and the tracking camera to a powered USB hub, and that to an USB2 (not USB3) connector on your PC?

I am not sure if this helps any, I have just read the sometimes using USB3 connectors or low-power USB2 connectors on the motherboard can cause tracking issues.

I am using a powered USB2 hub myself, and have no such problems.

Might be a long shot, but hope this helps!

I just wanted to alt+tab and tell you that you are my hero.

Switched the tracking camera to the powered 2.0 plugs on my monitor (unable to change the headset USB as the HDMI would no longer reach the back of my tower.) after reading your post and instead of playing on Low with the Oculus Quality turned down to get smooth tracking, I am playing on Mid with it all the way up with complete smoothness. I saw something about a powered USB plug in the manual but didn't give it much thought as all USB plugs are technically powered by the computer or else none of the devices would work. Didn't realize they meant an independent power source.

Also my screen also needed to be flipped when I got my DK2 recently.

My specs:
i5-3570k 3.4GHz
ASUS GeForce GTX 760 DC2OC 2GB
8GB RAM

Time to go Alt+Tab back into game and try to tweak up a few more settings. Thanks again! :D

Also to the original poster - Don't try to tweak your graphics while docked. Do it out in space where you'll be spending most of your time. The stations are pretty graphically intensive and even when I had smooth tracking in space after lowering everything, I still would get judder inside the stations even with no other player ships in the same system. So I'm assuming it's graphical and not buggy net code like I've heard in other posts.

Thanks for replies.
As you said, i tweak things in deep space, alone.
I tried switching usb cables but it seems to have no effect.

Also, i checked my fps with riva tuner from msi afterburner (position 300/300 to see fps in rift). Riva tuner sais i'm between 140 and 150 fps. Is that why the game is so unplayable? Do i need to have 150 fps all time to have a correct experience? The game is really smooth but the head tracking make me sick whis all this stutter.

That's the thing. I'm synced locked in elite options. But riva tuner shows more thant 75 fps. It shows 140-150 fps. Wich i think is a lot for my conf with oculus. Bug from riva tuner, or i have too much fps for the game? seems weird.

I agree something seem to be wrong! Have you tried the in game FPS readout, means removing the left eye piece and looking directly at the whole screen.

Ok, i just checked the fps ingame by removing left eye piece and i'm getting 75 fps ingame but i can drop to 70 fps.
The thing is the judder is still here at 75 fps (less noticeable). I can see this drunken effect even in the main menu (where fps stays at 75). Weird.

I checked my uc wich runs at 40-50% (85% at the most).
I need to check my gc.

edit: Ok i checked the cg, it doesn't go further than 80% utilisation. So, i'm not limited by my cpu, my gpu and my ram. So why can't i achieve full 75 fps all time?
This is my cg:
