Heavy judder in RES sites - yes or no

Same for me. SC fps drops to the point where the ghosting is terrible. I wouldn't mind if I had a crappy GPU but my rig has got a 980Ti and it was fine in 1.3.

Glad it's not just me! Running a gtx980 and found that the judder starts after being in SC for 20 seconds or so. The actual frame rate seems fine, as demonstrated by rotating the ship or something while keeping my head still. The problem only comes when turning my head. It's playable, but really annoying! Certainly didn't happen on 1.3 for me either.

Turn on a frame rate display and use OBS so you can see what your frame rates are when you're getting the double vision. Or use fraps frame rate logging so you can view it afterwards.

Also need to make sure you're getting 75Hz on the rift. Maybe your main monitor has gone to 60Hz forcing the rift to do the same if it's set as the secondary?

Okay - some honest feedback about 1.4

I still get the SC judder but running on old drivers for my R9 280 helps a fair bit. There is still something weird going in there.

BUT ...

Generally the entire game is smoother. It feels optimised to me and my card is managing to keep up with the frame rate much better.

ALSO ...

No planetary approach stutter.
No Hyperspace entry jump stutter.
No Hyperspace exit - crazy sun is tiny and suddenly it's very big stutter.

It feels a much better all round experience to me.

Ok, update as I said previously "hey should be a configuration issue as I'm fine on my side".

Count me on the heavy judder in SC side as it happened tons of time yesterday evening for the first time, mainly when approaching planet. It's heavy, fps should go under 10fps (I don't have them displayed). Awful, really look like a BigBadaBug, fixed when leaving and reenter SC.

Hi all yeah its not vsync ive messed about with it and problem still persists. its a bug it dont matter what graphical settings you have elite on the head tracking is butter smooth but as soon as you move your head everything goes into double triple vision.

Exactly same problem with me too!
To add to that, if I DON't move my head at all the fps is good and smooth, so maybe me thinks issue is with tracking!?

Hmmm jitter and stutter has been removed for me, was there prior to 1.4, this could be a VR issue? since at least my impression is a lot of normal users that had jitter before now do not? Frustrating for VR users, but could you try flying around non VR and testing perhaps if that jitters? if it does not it might help Frontier locate the problem without having to hit non VR users with jitter and stutter again?

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if all of you are happy with lag/judder you are experiencing when near resource extraction sites or asteroid fields??

Please specify what you mean with near resource extraction sites or asteroid fields.
Does that mean you are still in SC mode or already in normal flight mode.

I get judder (like dropping out of low persistance mode) only in SC mode (since 1.4), never in normal flight.

I for one absolutely am NOT and find it unplayable there!
I have a Strix GTX970. CPU- XEON 5530-2.4GHZ. Win764bit. Have tried oculus drivers 0.5.0.1 and 0.6.0.1 and nvidia drivers 3.50.12 and 3.55.98. All doing exactly the same thing!
GPU showing 70% max usage and CPU showing 70-90% in all 4 cores.
Setting all the graphics settings to low while in normal 1920 x 1080p non-ss/dsr does make a little difference but not much.

In normal space and stations all is pretty good though.

Also just for your infos, warthunder works very nice no lag/judder/stutter issues even with 20 planes around. So maybe it's just elite bad optimization?!
No it seems to be a VR issue, 1.4 is much smoother at least according to what I can read from others and those I can ask that had jutter/stutter problems in 1.3, it seems entirely to be VR related, you tried to repeat the lag/jutter issue without VR connected? if not try? could help Frontier narrow it down.

No, this lag/judder I am talking about is strictly in VR. (We are in a VR thread aren't we?) It only presents itself when I move my head showing up as kind of double-vision and can actually happen anywhere not just in res fields. I believe it happens mostly when other ships are around. I did try once without my oculus and using only my flatscreen, problem definitely not there and getting in excess of 200FPS with max graphics settings.

Both in SC and in normal flight! but SC is worse.

Update: After last weeks update I only seem to get judder in SC only now (just like most everyone here)! almost there Frontier!!...

Slightly confused, that's what I said, that it is an entire VR issue? but yeah hopefully they can fix it for VR without adding stutter to non VR users again.

I don't think this is only a VR problem IMO, VR is implemented for the whole game and I can't think about some specific VR management depending which part of the game you're in. Only some specific part should have a VR or 3D management like settings the stereo parameters for the galaxy map or in menu. When you're in space, normal or SC, VR is the same. On monitor the problem could come and you can possibly experiment lower FPS in similar situation, but it's not as dramatic as in VR, as having less than 75fps in DK2 is visible and painful...

Holy cow add me to the list. This is completely unplayable now. AMD r9 290. I'm going to try the 9-29 beta driver and see if that does anything.

I also have the SC issue, it usually shows up after 30-60 seconds, and for me, its not tied to any number of ships/cmdrs or planets within the system. I've had this issue in systems with 2-3 planets and a couple NPCs.

Performance elsewhere does seem to be vastly improved though, I used to have issues with judder in High Intensity Resource Sites, but now I can be in a HazRes with far more NPCs and not have an issue, although I do rarely seem to get the judder for a brief period of time randomly, I can't find anything specific that seems to trigger it.

Sadly i have the same problem. This is a real shame, since the release last year this problem exists, however with the last 1.3 beta it was gone and worked fine. I thought they solved it.
Its really disappointing that the problem is back. I really hope they solve this quickly as this does break the immersion. I want to point out its only in SC and only after a minute orso. When back out of SC its gone and super smooth again.

I had the same problem, but mostly gone now. I have reduced the NumWorkerThreads to 2 in the AppConfig file. I have a very low end system but am able to use NVidea DSR X 4 with this setting. Only very marginal judder remaining. Worth a try - costs nothing ;). Try searching NumWorkerThread for other posts on this. Please post if this helps or not.

Good luck - BZ
