Hardware & Technical Saitek x55 rhino

Unless they have produced a controller package for consoles I would think it highly unlikely it could be used on a console - at least the programmable side of it - the basic functions might work. The only software available on the Saitek site is for Windows machines.

How does the X55 work with Win10?

When I updated my pc to Win 10 several months ago the X55 basic functions were ok but the profiler software didn't work at all - the main reason I rolled back to Win 7. There are now specific software and drivers for Win 10 on Saitek's website for the X55 so you should be ok with it.

Thanks for the info! :)

My X55 has suffered the inevitable broken wire problem, its striped down ready for some TLC this week. Ive ordered some new tactile switches as well because I may as well replace the spongy ones whilst its open. With regards the wiring I'm hoping a soldered inline splice covered in heat shrink will do it. I intend to make the cable longer and braid them and route them away from the throttle if possible.

Mine was fine apart from the ghost button issue, I've bought a powered usb3 hub and it's not happening as much.

Then the trigger went.. I mean I'm not trigger happy. but it does get used more than other buttons I'd say.

Under warranty so I contacted Logitech and after a fortnight I've got to the stage where they asked for a video clip showing the problem.

Hopefully they've said that a X56 will be the replacement if they approve etc...

they are good sticks when they work but as we all know the build quality...

ARGHHH! I don't think I've had cause to open my PC case as much as I've had to open my 1st run X-55 the last couple years.

This time the stick buttons initially started to become unresponsive while (twist) yawing, and now none of the stick buttons respond at all.

I have tried re-installing drivers, using USB 2.0, 3.0, and a powered hub

I read that this can be caused by a wire coming loose behind the pins in the base, does anyone know how to access this as I can't see any loose wires? Any other ideas?

It's nearly 3 years old so RMA isn't an option. :(

Count yourself amongst the lucky ones getting 3 years out of it, now if you have a birthday coming up speak very nicely to your loved ones and ask for new HOTAS! I hear that the T1600 FCS is getting some good reviews.

From a personal note i had 3 X55 within 14 months and finally said enough is enough and just before Mad Catz Sold to Logitech got an x52 pro as a replacment sent to me. Touch wood no issues yet.

It's alive, it's working, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!!!

I would just like to thank Saitek for my newfound skill with a soldering iron; without their unique combination of high-price and woeful build quality, I wouldn't have half the DIY and electronics skills I have acquired in the last three years. :p

Honestly, have to say I'm feeling a bit like that bit in that film where Tom Cruise makes fire, and then learns to be a dentist with an ice-skate. Right, off to fix all the kid's broken Christmas toys! Thank you Saitek! Excelsior!

Good for you.

However i do have to point out it's Tom Hanks (Cast Away) not Tom Cruise :) :) :)

Anyone got one of these and using it with elite dangerous? Some impressions would be good
Thanks
I do have one on pre-order so don't slag it off too hard ;)

dont buy the X55, buy the X52 PRO. the throttle on the X55 and X56 will end up having internal wiring issues.

Uuuuuummmm!
Guess who has seen wiring problems on both the X52 and X52 Pro models.

on researching, im finding less people have had problems with the X52 Pro than the X55 or X56. but still, im sure they are not without problems. it is madcatz after all. still hoping logitech can fix them.

Ok, my post was moved to this forum. Short version the Saitek X-55 died and I bought the X-56. Sure maybe it will fail in two months but I have an extended warranty. It so much dials in all the controls with ED plus with the new 2 new analog sticks could be interesting with the new camera options. I did look at the very expensive Thrustmaster Warthog but without yaw on the joystick and dogs I love being where ruddle pedals would be I had to go with the dogs.

Still I am amazed as how so many of my X-55 controls deteriorated and over time I didn't notice it but still could play in any mode. With the new X-56 I see what I have been missing.

Before I got the X-56 I used a decade old Saitek Cyborg Evo single joystick. What I found was about 2-3 times more rotational response versus the X-55 or the newer X-56. It is older technology with a lower bitrate so maybe that is how it works.

If Thrustmaster ever gets to a twist yaw version I will be all over it. But they are more about selling rudder pedals at the moment.

Well I solved my rudder issue posted here... surprise surprise, it's the wires at the base again.

So that black thin one goes in the center along with the fat one if ever you run into a rudder response issue. It can be hard to see at first since the solder and the wires are practically the same color/finish, especially if the tear happened at the soldering point.

Also, if the buttons on the stick stop working, it's the yellow wire. Found out about that one 2 months ago

So in conclusion, Saitek 0 and CMDR Thirdeye 2.

<Ahem>

I just had to fix these on my own X55! For me it was the purple and white wires. For the second time, actually. This time I soldered in a little extension. Hopefully that'll keep the problem at bay for a while.

Not used one personally, but Saitek did deliver one personally to Chris Roberts of Star Citizen, and they seemed fairly taken with it.

No idea if there's any marketing deal going on in the background there.

yeah, the rhino was supposed to be the basis of a star-citizen specifically branded stick. It was pretty slick, but never materialized becuase of shipping issues.

Anyway, if it's good enough for SC, I'm sure it's good enough for this game.
