I want you to post some videos of gaming please.
Youtube need video of x55 gameplay. Please if you can show the hotas and film your setup im a curious dude. ;)

I'll try make Incursion walkthrough video in about an hour. As for set up, I will make photo later today as well.

I am sad that saitek don't want to make analogue sticks on thruster that would be recognizable in games.

I noticed in one video that CH HOTAS have analogue stick and it was just perfect for use in space sim games for thruster maneuvers.

Not sure if warthogs analogue ministick can be used in same way...

I am using rudder pedals for vertical and lateral thrusters. I think these allow more precision than analogue stick on a thruster. Also I have chosen Saitek X55 as it has twist rudder which CH Combatstick and Thrustmaster Warthog do not have.

Are you playing Premium Beta or Alpha?

Premium Beta has Alpha 1 which is very old and was not update since December. It can only recognize only one controller device.

Alpha 3 released the 15.03 made it possible to use multiple controller devices.

I have the same issue as Durrell, and have premium beta. I have to say it's a bit disappointing that beta access is just a time-delayed alpha, with all the original bugs intact!

I kind of thought the point was to fix bugs found in alpha and then release to beta for more stress testing and check for NEW bugs. Not simply dump known bugs on the beta crowd. What is the point of that?

Beta will be released the 30.05 only then it will have major bugs found in Alpha fixed and you will be able to do more stress testing and be able to report new bugs.

Right now they have released Alpha 1.1 Single Player to Premium Betas so that they would have some time to familiarize themselves with ship controls and have some experience with gameplay basics.

It seems to me that everything is fair.

Yes it can, only its a bit too sensitive, so you have to play around with the curves and deadzones in the target software. works well once set up though. :)

Cheers.

(Ok I'm an idiot, I've edited this thing twice now, because I cant read!:D )

Nice...What chair is that again? I think you mentioned it in another thread somewhere.

I'm looking at investing in something similar, including an x55 rhino, but I am not sure I want all the monitor rig on it.

Also, what do you have the pedals bound to in Elite? If it's yaw, then what's on the z-axis of the stick?

Also...x55 Rhino? Good or great?

Its Obutto R3volution with Acrylic tabletops and joystick and throttle mount. As you can see I do not have space for triple monitor setup, so I did not need triple monitor mount.

Z-axis on the sticks is actually RZ-axis and is set to Yaw. Pedals are for vertical and lateral thrust.

It seems to me that I have seen someone posting setup photos in the internet without monitor setup. Only chair with KB/M mount and joystick/throttle mounts. As far as I understood that person has arranged such setup with Obutto. Do not know whether it was purchased in US or in Europe.

*confused* how?
2 pedals = 2 directions.
Vertical + Lateral = 4 direction.

...or am I such being really silly and missing something obvious?

I was thinking of putting them on an 8 way hat on the throttle, or the mouse stick on the throttle.

There are digital controls for vertical axis up/down, and lateral axis left/right.
Then you have 4 control options to assign. That works for hat.

However, you can assign analogue controls, in this case you need to assign only two axis (lateral and vertical).

Pedals have 3 axis - rudder axis and 2 axes for toe brakes.

I have the following setup:
Lateral axis - rudder axis.
Vertical axis - toe brakes, right toe brake - up, left - down (in order to have analogue controls for vertical axis I have merged 2 toe brake axes into one axis using UJR via vJoy).

The mocking of Saitek's obsession with rotaries previously in this thread gave me a brainwave today. I assigned one of the x52's rotaries to vertical thrust.

While this won't help in combat, it gave me such a finer level of control over vertical thrust that it is absolutely ideal for vertical take of and landing. Using an additional rotary for lateral thrust also has it's benefits in the same situations.

The best rotary to use on the x52/x52 Pro is the biggest rotary on the throttle. However, since none of these rotaries have actual positional markings, you have to be completely reliant on finding the click for the center position (and ensure you've setup a central deadzone).

On the x55 this will be far easier as the throttle rotaries on the base have a position marking.

Assuming ED can detect the x55's second throttle, that might also be a really handy vertical thrust lever which would allow for an even finer control over VTOL. Unlike using rotaries, that might also prove useful for combat.

Right, just got back after a course last week and my X55 has arrived!! :D

Mrs hadn't opened the parcel either so is oblivious that I have upgraded my HOTAS joystick from the Thrustmaster T-Flight X (which incidentally is a great stick, just not quite enough buttons(up/down thrusters mainly)) - so all is peaceful on that front

Very impressed with the quality for the price (as stated earlier, £169 from Gameshark (although packaged in a joytech.net box)). It feels at least as solidly built as the Thrustmaster, no wobble at the deadzone, the spring setup to change the stiffness of the joystick is well designed and simple to swap around, even the Throttle HATs which I thought looked like they would be the most flimsy part of the build on videos I had seen feel solid. Overall I think its a great piece of kit and well priced in relation to what you get.

Only downside I feel at this initial point in time is that the joystick is a bit on the big side for me (I would say I've average sized hands). I have to actually move my hand up the stick to reach the top controls (HAT 1 and 'A' button) with my thumb as you need to stretch over the POV and HAT 2 controls.

I installed the Saitek drivers, plugged both the throttle and stick into the PC and Windows (7, 64) recognises it, however E: D doesn't pick up the joystick at all, and 'most' controls are mapped to the throttle. I am in Alpha so after reading previous posts in this thread, expected it to be at least recognised with just a few tweaks to set up, however this isn't the case. I've re-installed the drivers, unplugged the joystick and throttle and plugged them in again, changed the E: D controller options to Custom / X52 / X52 Pro / mouse and keyboard to no avail... :(

Any other X55 owners with suggestions / solutions? Am I missing something completely? Do I need to re-install E: D for the game to recognise I have a new controller so it is added to the list of available ones in game? At a bit of a loss now of what to do, so any help or suggestions are appreciated :)

You did not mention it, but did you install Saitek Software along with the drivers?

It seems to me that Jynxed had a similar problem:

That is how she was able to solve it (or it fixed itself):

Hi Aleksej, yup, sorry I didn't say I had installed the Saitek software, but I have :)

I've read Jynxed's solution... but as she says, after a day it just seemed to work, so sounds like it was to do with re-booting and then E: D suddenly recognising it, so its still a mystery.

I'll try some more reboots with the hardware unplugged, just joystick plugged in, etc, and see what happens then re post if I get it recognised and both working ;)
