I don't understand what is wrong with expressing a view and I don't share your sentiment that the title was provocative.. Are we to censor our every thought and expression so as not to have others cry in the corner with hurt feelings in strawberry short cake land?

I've always looked at SC and been put off by the relentless and highly questionable sales push. Seems like style over content so far and its been a seriously long time too. They have an entire company working on it, endless sums of money, and that is the result? Bar actually creating the meshes I could have coded that myself in a few months in my spare time.

Pfft! I truly doubtful that ... truly doubt it. I'd say it money not wasted and they are carving their own style and path in the game.

They have their own level of detail, and yes ... more than just "style over content" as you'd put it. Just let them get on with it and stop trying to compare the two games. :)

Im not saying that.. but for a forum thats suppose to be mature and seems supposedly to be against the "them and us" attitude then i find it a tad bit immature yes..

+1 Gotta agree with that, 100%. :)

Just saying opinions are fine and neither Mobius's or mine are based on stirring up crap. I want both games to succeed (I'm not a backer of SC, I believe Mobius is). As I mentioned in my earlier post on this thread the DFM looks a lot like I expected ED to look like before I saw the Alpha 1, and I would have been happy with that! I just think (and Mobius seems to) that ED is better looking and was at Alpha 1.

How that plays out as both games move forward will be interesting to see. And people like different playstyles so that's fine. All I'm saying is Mobius doesn't deserve personal criticism (and neither do I) for opinions about two comparing two games at this stage.

I hear ya Jeff but this isn't a race between both the games. They both have different development programs they are working to, so why compare them as if they are two teams rushing for the same release date? So their alpha is not up to yours or Mobius's definition of polish? So what? As long and they both get through the quality gate at the end of their build, isn't that all that counts?

There is nothing wrong with expressing your views. There is something to be said for how you express them though - some posts demonstrate a lack of maturity and self confidence, others ooze in them. (I have made both kinds so I am not judging here)

I have banged heads with Mobius in the past and don't wish to do so again here. The title could have been a little less provocative - whilst you don't have an issue with it others do. (It could have been called "SC release a new video at PAX" but it's done now :))

Unless a mod would like to assist... (with Mobius' agreement)

BTW - I think the SC graphics look stunning. Game-play mechanics not so much, but it's early-days.

OK, I'll admit the title could have been better worded... I don't see it as a race either, but I think an opinion on comparing them is fine and inevitable.

You kidding? I could make the combat element of that using directx, some animated meshes, bit of tcp/ip socket code... I mean come on none of that is rocket science. Half the effects you see there you can find examples of on the net, many come with directx libraries itself, even the physics code is a plug in library freely available. This is not a them and us comment but my point is that I expected to see a lot more considering the length of time the project has been going and the resources they have to work upon it.

They're even using an already created engine. I am at a loss to understand how little they have to show for it all.

If anything, it shows Mobius has a passion for ED, which I think we all share, and whilst I was not sucked into the SC propaganda milking machine I am tempted to buy it upon release. Space is big .. and so is my hard drive :D

:) Did you watch the SC video link I posted up of the HUD dev team at work? You think all those ship HUDs are not going to be works of art in themselves once finished? Hmm? :)

I like that the 2 games become more distinct and different, the presentation cud be better but that aside real time presentation have a habit of never go smooth the first time around.

And its a pre alpha build anyway, gl to those that like this type of combat style, but it ain't for me. to me the ships stil look to flimsy to take any hostile fire.

Chris been looking rather under the weather last 2 months of vids of him, he really need a moral booster to regain the spark he had during the kickstarter of both ED and SC.

I am sure it be better when the alpha of sc had a month on its back and it be closer to the pacifier we Premium betas are enjoying atm :D

Did anyone notice that when he crashed the ship the first time, some parts tumbled away weightlessly into space while the main hull fell onto the platform as under gravity? Looked really buggy.

This is the point where you should really read up on G-forces before making more posts. :D

There is no G-Force in space except inside and within it planetary atmospheric mass and Carl Sagan will tell you that. It amazing that most people cannot comprehand the fact without Gravitational Force in space. :D

gravity is mathematically identical to acceleration... just throwing that out there. Now do ships accelerate?

We had entire space stations vanishing before our eyes, cut them some slack ;)

G-force is simply a measure of non-gravitational acceleration that happens to have the unit of "g", ie 9.8 metres per second squared. If you can have acceleration in space then you can have g-force, regardless of the presence or not of a gravitational field.

Yes.

In fact, FE2 and FFE measured ship engine performance by g-force acceleration.

It accelerate just fine, much more freely, lighter and easier than gravitational force. :D

Now leave me alone, I am not a teacher. :)

Cause asking for 200GBP for an alpha is not "milking".
And continuing to keep up the pay walls after missing all deadlines, is also not "milking".
Right?

Right.

I got SC alpha for 30$ back then.
I bought additional ships, because I wanted too, for 300$.
Because CIG knows how to treat all their backers.

I got ED gamma in December 2012 for 20 GBP expecting to get something in MARCH 2014.
I got nothing and they are not even willing to give out the single player demo to everyone at this point, honoring the missed deadlines, plus getting all the intervals between the phases wrong. So with this business practice, I am not willing to pay one more dime.

SC Gameplay looks great by the way, I heard ED alpha never crashes. Right?

When is the release for SC planned btw? Presumably they are going to deliver the dogfighting a head of the rest of the game.

I think early next year was the original plan. Not sure I'd expect to see it actually release at that point though.
