SC Flightmodel Discussion

The planet looks decent, arguably much better than the ED planets we've seen so far, and the asteroids seemed better visually than ED (is that due to SSAO?) but I have serious concerns about the rest of it.

The flight model looks plain awful and the 3rd person mode makes me appreciate Frontier's decision not to have one. Its gotten no better than the 3rd person mode I saw over a year ago.

All those people at PAX seem like they would applaud anything, I seriously don't understand the hype for the game. Its hard to believe its taken so long to produce that..

This is just the way i look at it. And i also backed Star Citizen only $35 because of the same reasons you did. While i put everything i could into Elite even if i knew i would have time for DDF or even testing the alpha(i downloaded it,but simply haven't had the time to even test it) But i did manage to get all of my friends that used to love Elite to jump in and support the game :)

LARS!!! :)

*waves*

40 posts!

You really got lazy since the KS. :p

+1 Vreynn.

Be great if E: D and SC wrote an expansion/plugin where a hyperspace failure or planned mission enables you to do MP vs each other in a separate universe.
.

Beat me to it I was just going to say that ! The ultimate way to wage war.
But seriously personally its just about personal preferences brought up on star wars iv. For me its hyperspace and planes in space played elite and it was just great the sub sim like tension of just getting that cargo from a to b. the combat everything being able to jump out (if you could) of a scrape. Just great !
I did play one of the wing commanders but not that bothered about mission based sims.
So for me ed over sc so far. Though obviously ii would have been nice if everybody had seen sense :) and ploughed their money into ed.
Though then again i might have been having to save up for a cray supercomputer to play it on.
So so far happy with the way things are.
So thats everybody happy which is a good thing isnt it.

I don't know why one should fear SC. Like so many said - no problem with more spacesims out there.

That being said, I really also think that looked like crap. Way overhyped.
The American Way, if that vid represents it, has failed in my view.

My deepest respect to FD for their approach to both development and marketing!

Good job, you tea-drinking Brittons!

Chris is building the game he wants to play and we're doing the same for David, so it should be expected (and in fact embraced) that they're different. We have a new age of cool space games approaching, it would be rubbish if they were all the same :)

As for issues with demoing builds, we've all been there.

It seems like CR is promoting Squadron 42 the most, judging by the video's i've seen and this last video.

Difference is huge - in scale. SC at this point will be rooms connected by auto traveling system between POIs. ED will use supercruise, which won't be automatic at all. SC systems are small, within 1AU, ED systems are 1:1 with real Milky Way galaxy.

True, but if it is done well and hidden correctly it neednt be an issue IMO. I backed SC for S42 and there is little danger of that not delivering IMO. My main issue with the PU part has nowt to do with scale, I fear that it is far more likely to be a PvP gankfest than ED and guilds will play a major role, but that is purely subjective on my part and I know many people inc some on this board see that as a strength over ED not a -ve.

There is room for both and I intend to give even the pu a fair stab. I a even in a guild which is a 1st for me.

I think people aren't aware of Mobius's history with Frontier as well. He isn't taking a side or arbitrarily choosing with his eyes shut. He says what he thinks. Being a decent guy most of what he says is decent, insightful and intelligent. He hasn't shied away from criticising Frontier either, there was a big post a while back which saw him squaring up squarely to Frontier and said what many people were thinking back in January I think it was.

He isn't just being an Elite fanboy. His opinions, right or wrong (and in this case I agree with him) are what he thinks. He's levelled his sometimes unpopular opinions at Frontier "so why are you treating us like Kids, We have each given you a rather large amount of cash to help test Elite and we want this to work as much as you guys do" caused a furore in the alpha forums a while back.

I'm defending him here because whatever he says it's what he thinks and unlike some people who'll blindly jump to Frontier's defense, in this case he's being critical of another game. It's what he thinks, it's based on what he's seen and unlike earlier comparisons from a lot of people on both sides, it's based being actually able to compare both games now.

He isn't the most diplomatic of ambassadors sometimes and I've disagreed with him as well in the past, but I know he's just saying what he thinks and he's relatively objective. He doesn't troll, people confuse actual critical thought (here's my negative opinion of your product, which I actually believe) with trolling (here's me negative opinion expressed in the most provocative way possible, just to cause drama).

Seriously? Well, you may as well add the above as a link to every post you make then. I mean, you do realise there are going to be a whole load of new players joining us now the beta's coming? Yes, a whole load of them from over on the other side of the fence in the SC world. You think silly comparison threads like this do anything to smooth the waters between the two camps? Thats just ridiculous.

I really don't get why some of you lot just love to stir up crap, you seem to get off on it. It's like you think it's some kind of badge of honour you can hold up for bonus points here. How about you cut it out and quit trying to defend it as a justifiable way to carry on. People want both of these games to succeed, I'm pretty sure they don't want to hear/see squabbling matches on the forums between the ED and SC camps.

Now, would you like some coffee Jeff ... we can talk about how great both games are probably going to be.

Just saying opinions are fine and neither Mobius's or mine are based on stirring up crap. I want both games to succeed (I'm not a backer of SC, I believe Mobius is). As I mentioned in my earlier post on this thread the DFM looks a lot like I expected ED to look like before I saw the Alpha 1, and I would have been happy with that! I just think (and Mobius seems to) that ED is better looking and was at Alpha 1.

How that plays out as both games move forward will be interesting to see. And people like different playstyles so that's fine. All I'm saying is Mobius doesn't deserve personal criticism (and neither do I) for opinions about two comparing two games at this stage.

happy days lars is here :D

you just made my weekend ! great to see a few of the very friendly & fun ks faces coming back since premium beta opening up!!

And as for the title of this thread,it should be changed. I never feared Star Citizen, because it's very different from Elite Dangerous. I was very disappointed of the last SC video, and i really hope it will get a dramatical improvement from this, and hopefully it will be possible to skip that "entering ship" sequence they had here, because that will quickly become boring. I would'nt mind if they just removed the entire sequence from the game, because it's useless after watching it once. They should really start to focus on more important part of the game, than this.

I was never really worried in the first place, plenty of space (excuse the pun) for both games.

While I loved the Wing Commander series they were more just great games rather than anything groundbreaking. Elite just ticks all the right boxes for me, even although some of the Star Citizen crowd have signed it off as 'junk'.

Also that flying reticle thing is really off-putting in the DFM video, that's the last thing you need in a heated dogfight.

Morning Michael. Not to disagree with you but I'd like to think ED isn't just for David to play. Can I have a go too? :D

true, respected any story it comes to an end. can SC be deep enough to allow players to create their own story, Squadred 42 is the single player element of the game while Star Citizen is the open world, I don't know if its true but I read that SC changed from having a hundred star systems to being like elite with a generated galaxy.

Just saying opinions are fine and neither Mobius's or mine are based on stirring up crap. I want both games to succeed (I'm not a backer of SC, I believe Mobius is). Sorry but even if it is a respected forum member, naming the thread like he did (which can't be seen as anything other than provoking) isn't acceptable and defending it makes us no better than SC forum members...

I was also disappointed when I saw this thread, it just makes this forum look bad.

Let's not drop down to the level of others games forums eh?

I don't understand what is wrong with expressing a view and I don't share your sentiment that the title was provocative.. Are we to censor our every thought and expression so as not to have others cry in the corner with hurt feelings in strawberry short cake land?

I've always looked at SC and been put off by the relentless and highly questionable sales push. Seems like style over content so far and its been a seriously long time too. They have an entire company working on it, endless sums of money, and that is the result? Bar actually creating the meshes I could have coded that myself in a few months in my spare time.

Im not saying that.. but for a forum thats suppose to be mature and seems supposedly to be against the "them and us" attitude then i find it a tad bit immature yes..
