I am feeling a little proud of myself. Combat is only a sometimes activity for me, so when I got offered a follow-up mission that involved the killing of an "expert" pirate, this "novice" combat pilot was going to pass on the offer. But I figured, heck, what did I have to lose? So, I called up the old Viper from storage and headed out into the black for my date with destiny.

As luck would have it, the old scallywag Nicolas Searock found me first in his FDL and we immediately started jousting. My old Viper held its own - it does have some engineered parts, but I believe they were all Grade 1-2 but for my shields, and those I remotely engineered right before I left from Grade 1 to Grade 3 as a precaution. It was a good thing I did, too, because Searock was no slouch! It quickly became apparent that this fight was going to be decided down to the last percentage of hull health because he was giving as good as I got (despite me remembering to use my shield cell banks - am I the only one who installs those things and then forgets to activate them when needed? 😄 ). My foe was beginning to get the better of me by a few hull % points when, to my relief, the security force for this low sec system flashed into the battle and started pounding away on the pirate, too. Huzzah for the cops! That gave me the breathing room I needed to finish him off, netting me a nice 110K cred payout for the mission.

After the battle, I took a look at the old girl. Ouch! She earned some nasty, but proud, scars!
