Seems Very Quiet Around Here

I've been gone, like completely gone, for some time now.
I've mostly been enjoying the sheer chaos of Just Cause 3. Pure, pointless, destruction. Yay! I spent an odd amount of time playing a game with basically no plot.
Anyhoo, I'm slowly getting that itch for ED, so I've started venturing back here, and on my discord channels.
But it's very very quiet now. Did something happen? Do we all talk somewhere else? Or is it just that "mid term" lull we get between updates?
How is the game? Is that quiet too, or just here?

It's not a Dooooooom! thread BTW, just an observation. Maybe I was the one making all the traffic...😁
FDev delayed Fleet Carriers and Support ships, ice planets, etc. until the end of 2020, delayed the "big" update, many players are likely just biding their time, waiting to see if new content will be delayed again and for how long ... Remember "Winter is Coming"? Well, Winter isn't coming, Winter isn't even breathing hard.

The idea that Frontier delayed the fleet carriers again for solely malicious reasons as 'revenge' for the open letter is pretty unconvincing for me.

i don't think malice is implied, more that the upheaval somehow forced their hand.

we can't know but i don't think that's the case. the september release was a huge disaster. this is an important setback not only because fallout, it costs a lot of money and it may disrupt other schedules. i'm pretty sure some hard words were said over there at frontier. i do believe they at least intend to address this, because they have to, this cannot be allowed to go lower still. maybe the petition was a golden ticket, but they would probably had done it anyway.

the talk about beta is genuine bovine manure, though, they fished out from the petition for pr reasons. the crowd shouts beta, so lets give them beta!!! but betas can't fix a failing sw engineering process, that would be the cherry on the cake and there is no cake yet.

We're all playing Space Engineers :D
Nice! I bought it from Steam on discount last week....I rushed getting my Ship (which was out in the black) back to the nearest Station, so that I know it's landed in a safe place, waiting for Frontier to do something, which could be a loooooong time:sleep:.
So while ED is put to bed (though may just use my 400 arx allocation weekly, from my unsold data), I'm enjoying playing SE.
Damn that game's intense & very, very deep:geek:

Really wish this SE game would get it's own forum …. :D
Shhh.... even I have it, but have yet to be entranced by it as it crashes too often (oops! but others don't have that issue) for my liking. It did start-up in 4K with all graphics options maxxed which I felt encouraged by (rare in most games). No doubt, when I hit a lull in playing ED (not yet - way too busy) I'll have a proper look at the game :)

But, I will agree, things are far quieter around the game - I only saw one hollow square in a few hours of playing, doing passenger runs in Colonia, on my main. (Yes, I do play in open when not doing 'important' stuff!) That is considerably fewer than normal.

SE used to crash all the time for me as well. I discovered it requires virtual memory (swap file) to be enabled, which I had turned off. I haven't had any problems with it since then. I have 16 GB RAM with an 8 GB swap file. It seems SE really likes to be able to address lots of memory, probably to track all those voxels.

I have my paging file on a SSD (not on my main & secondary Nvme drives) system controlled size so dynamically allocates as needed. I'll get around to playing around with settings etc. at some point to try to discover why it is a little flakey, it is a good game that looks like it has much potential, but ED has come to the fore again currently as there are a few things I'd set myself to do since FC's were delayed and they are still engaging my interest.

If it's quiet now, imagine what it'll be in a few months...

I hope someday some good videogame journalist will write a well-researched article called "The Slow Suicide of Elite Dangerous"
In a few months it will be buzzing once again with speculation on the impending release of FC's....

In the meantime I'll celebrate the empty vastness, devoid of hollow squares, and enjoy the list of things I've yet to finish (that may take some time), although I do appreciate the viewpoint from some that the game has nothing to offer any more, the limit is imagination really - and a willingness to 'create' a reason to play.

And shortly after that it will be buzzing even more with outrage about the impending delay of FCs? 😅

But yeah, summer should be better again. FCs and probably some news on the "New Era".
