News Ship naming – transmission intercepted.

That's an awesome idea. It's not coming for 2.3 and I don't know what technical limitations there would be to that but it's certainly something I can pass on as a cool idea.

What about if we scan another Commander's ship.....will we get to see their ship-name in the contacts screen?

I am not going to get my knickers in a knot either way.

if its pay once small fee to allow name plate on all my ships, I will probably bite, if its pay per ship i wont bother... but i am not salty about it either way.

I accept that this is the price we have to pay by NOT having pay monthly costs (thank god) and by FD not selling currency on the store.

Now personally I myself would have no problem FD selling ships and currency on the store for real money, as well as cosmetics IF it meant we could earn everything in game too. (which is the Star Citizen model i believe).... but that is just me and i am weird.

So long as FD never EVER sell special upgraded components which cannot be got in game in a fair amount of time *my notion of fair is pretty relaxed, i am more than happy a cutter taking 500 hrs ingame play* I am happy.

bottom line, ship name decals are not needed and so i can live with it either way *****

****** as a compromise, too add life to the game, i would love it if every ship had a unique ship registration number on its hull (like in Frontier/1st encounters) as default, which is replaced IF you buy a name decal.

LOVE that idea!

In case you haven't seen names on actual personal craft named by actual human beings...

All excellent examples. So silly names don't break immersion? They are perfectly natural human behaviour, now and in the next millennium I'd say.

They might be annoying and stupid, but they are what would happen, if one doesn't like them and wants something applied to the game mechanics to remove them or filter them then one must consider who's actually breaking immersion in that particular case :) #winks#

Not meant as an attack, I just loved the ironic conclusion of my thinking.

Absolutely. I would hate having to decide whether to pay a monthly subscription, and I think FD is doing exactly the right thing selling only cosmetic items, ensuring no risk of "pay to win". Oddly enough I end up buying many of the cosmetic items, and I like knowing I'm supporting the game so that people with less disposable income than me can keep playing.

I already have names for all my ships, and I'm looking forward to seeing them in-game.

Would be a nice touch, yeah... I'm quite sure BGS has our ID floating somewhere already FDEV could expose. They could even switch Flight Control System's calls with this instead of [ship manufacturer][1st 3 CMDR name's letters)

Dont dare touching the flight controls 3 letter call sign! Foxtrott Romeo Alpha out.

Would be super cool. I'd picture each ship issued with a reg number as it's 'name' (rather than default sidewinder or something?), alpha numeric reg with three letters first, so you might have these letters used by ATC around stations? You'd then have a different identifier for each ship, regardless of pilot so to speak. Once you name your ship, ATC might use first three letters of that shipname, or revert to your Cmdr name, as now, the registered owner (which seems oddly logical to me, for a named ship, rather than the name of the ship).

It's fluffy stuff in a way but really adds to the imaginative experience imo. I'm really glad it's coming TM.

Oh joy, ship naming, that'll bring out the best in the players. We'll have every fictional starship name repeated over and over by those with no imagination, random swear words and letter/number combinations from the juvenile branch and a tiny percentage of ships with actual half decent names.

FD should make a ship name permanent to that ship even when sold and decrease the ships value for every other ship with the same name. Also probably dish out a weekly prize for really GOOD names.

Yes, FD should really take agency away from players wherever possibly, because some people apparently can't cope with humans being humans. Anybody who doesn't do proper (whatever silly metric "proper" is) RP, needs to be banned into solo right away!

Enter the "MSS Duckface". The MSS stands for "Her Majesty's Spaceship". It's an Imperial Clipper.
