The thing that's difficult about rings is that many of them are invisible, particularly the largest ones. I think it has something to do with the density of matter in them, but I don't think anyone has worked out an equation that reliably predicts whether the ring is rendered or not in-game. So pulling a list will probably give us some nice record largest + invisible rings. :D But having said that, here's a top-10 list:

Code:

A lot of Class IV gas giants there. Is it a coincidence or there is something in these that either increases the probability of having rings or the probability of the rings being larger?

Ouch! The database is getting a bit big then :)

Yeah, and it wasn't even running a map+spreadsheet update yesterday either. I expect it to be even slower if it's running a bunch of other DB-heavy scripts at the same time, but that wasn't the case here. Of course, I don't have indexes on the radius columns though, and that might have helped in this case. :D

How rare are trojan Ammonia Worlds? I just found a ringed one with 2 moons.

I don't store trojan status in the database, but the spreadsheet shows 101 of the known Trojans as being Ammonia Worlds.

Thank you for the compliment. But I don't have any updated data any longer, since EDSM doesn't provide the bodies-file any longer. They have of course no obligation to do so. The last version I have is from November.

Thankfully the body dump is back. The most recent one is from Feb 7.

BTW, here's the table sizes currently:

Rings: 14,813,692 rows
Planets: 111,833,451 rows

I expected there to be a lot more rings. But it's those planets... So many of them! :D

What scares me is not the current number of rows, but the idea that only a tiny percentage of the galaxy is mapped. If there's a game update that allows us to explore more quickly, these databases that you all are being so kind to manage for the community won't be able to deal with the I/O.

Yeah we already saw a significant increase in the amount of data about a year ago with the addition of the FSS. Scanning is so much quicker now than before. If they ever speed it up again, we could be in trouble. :D

Nah, this just means more clever management with the table structures, indexes, and queries. ED data is tiny tiny compared to some of the commercial DBs.

I don't recall ever seeing enough moons to get an O before...

I'm actually scanning a whole mass code D boxel for HRGGs and until now, most, if not all HRGGs I found and resemble a Class III giant look like the one below:

It is a normal Class III GG, not a HRGG though...

Yesterday I jumped into my second system of the day and crossed paths with this beast:

I landed on its closest moon (that was 4.1 ls away) and took another screenie:

A look at the sys map made me realize that it was my personal first "Blue" HRGG and the most beautiful GG I came across so far :D :

Wow. I wonder if this is worth a GMP POI?
