Shutdown Field as ultimate self defense system

This is such a dumb idea I'm surprised the thread got to 6 pages. Unless everybody is posting about how dumb it is.

Inflation from engineering. Balance pass on modules weren't that drastic.

Reasons? Pretty obvious.
Strong incentive for the players to get the DLC and grind stupid amount of times.
A total lack of interest to achieve balance for PVP in the sandbox.

Again, and I already asked you. In which universe can I convince a lucid friend of mine to grind for 200 hours just for his exploration ship to resist alpha strike from a combat ship?

And what type of ing skills will he hone while doing it? Submit to interdiction and HiWake? Switch to solo?

Pvp right now in Elite is so fitting for the bonkers mentality vets and their sense of achievement seemed to have developped. It's a freeform, unwelcoming, incredibly segregated decaying pile of rot without matchmaking nor balance.

My 2 c.

Elite Dangerous is not an arcade game. The longer we play (or grind, to some degree), the more advantages we will have. Anyone who is not piloting a stock sidewinder should agree to that.

I already expected gankers don't like it... you guys are so predictable ;)

Are you serious? I would love to have this module. It would give me more time to type text comms from a hulltank while opponent is shutdown.

Read again the OP and explain me how [it is more useful to gankers]...

Well, in bubble our FAS hulltanks never have shields to begin with, so we simply activate it at no cost to ourselves.

Or hell, even out here on DG2 in my conda, it's not like I really need my shields. I would definitely deactivate them to get 10 seconds to do anything I wanted for more lulz. Maybe circle strafe the explorer and spray chaff at them, or jettison biowaste canisters on their canopy.

And if I want to kill instead of lulz, it doesn't matter that I've deactivated my weapons, I just ram them.

This is a terrible idea. [haha]

Depends on your idea of terrible. Think of how much Zarek Null propaganda I could type given 10 extra seconds?!?!? This is a wonderful idea!

Also lol @ the grief potential. Everyone running cutter/FAS/whatever hulltanks, mashing the pulse button on interdiction, and then ramming the opponent as hard as they can. Finally a "skill" counter to the FdL ;-)

OP, so OK one shot per weapon, but what size hardpoint is required? Can I run a 7 pulse hulltank challenger, keeping my opponent stunned for a over a minute while I jettison biowaste on him and copy paste the book of most holy rebuy angel simguru Pranav Antal into comms? Or a 9 pulse T-10 ramming him for a minute and a half?

The interdictor will simply pull the vessel, it's wing will drop in on the beacon, then they will break wing, with one of the ships that didn't perform the interdiction using the shut down field.

If you then add a timer to the wing breaking penalty, you'll have one unwinged CMDR doing the interdicting, then a wing of CMDRs locked to each other all going for the nearest low wake. This will slow them down, but with multiple people who know what they are doing, only by a couple of seconds.

I don't really see any system that isn't a convoluted morass of nonsense that would not make this module more useful as a ganker tool than a defense.

The fact you have issue enough with gankers to even think this tool is a good idea is strong evidence that you lack sufficient knowledge of the game's mechanisms to conceive of something that will achieve your goals. You may as well be advocating for the removal of interdiction or supercruise entirely.

You don't need another gizmo. You need to learn to use what you have or choose a more appropriate mode.

I'm not surprised that you're surprised then...

At the very least you could try to address a post that actually engages your proposal using in-game mechanics as an argument, instead of just picking out a one-liner to respond to in kind.
It is your proposal to begin with, and it is yours to defend. Morbad has a point there.

What a wonderful gank tool for wings. One schlub interdicts the target. Neutralizes the target. Wingmates drop in and mop up. Awesome!

Yup.
OP could actually admit that this was a bad idea, but this is the internet and for some weird reason, conceding an argument seems to be impossible here.

Oddly, I've done this more than once using the Thargoid Probe/discoscanner combo at a busy engineers base.

Its hillarious watching everyone fall out of the sky.

You don't like the hunt, neither the challenge to chase players through systems with a FSD scanner. You want it quick and easy.
You just want to wait at a system entry point or in a rendez-vous designated place and wait for the prey to spawn. That's really cool gameplay! :p

It’s not just gankers who don’t like it...because it’s a stupid idea. How about you learn to barrel roll and high wake like everybody else instead of whining on the forums.

I wanted to knock people out of the sky over an engineer base with the pulse disruptor but the problem is that is is trash.

Hi, explorer here.

Your idea is bad and is more likely to be exploited by gankers than explorers. Anything that gimps jump range is a big no-no for most explorers. They generally prefer to fly defenceless and complain on the forums when the inevitable happens.

There are already a wide variety of options available to make your exploration ship a less appetising gank target, and none of them require as much of a gimp to jump range as you're suggesting for this module.

I mean, the OPs idea is petty bad, but if you want to stick with the theme for a counter proposal, how about this?..

EMP. Charges and fires much like this ECM, but the blast causes roid-cracking style sensor disruption to everyone in range including the user.
No radar, No target locks, no gimballed or turret tracking, and contact panel is garbled.
HUD is also glitchy and distorted, so fixed aiming is sorta difficult.
It effects everyone in range, and lasts 5-10 seconds.
Once fired, your sensors "adapt" and are immune from EMP for some time. (Needed to prevent spamming from multiple users)
1 per ship. 60 second cooldown.

Done!

Fire one off and jump during the confusion.
Or gankers or PvPers can cause massive sensor disruption during a fight.

Or, like I said before, just fit better shields and jump. Lol

Sad to see how people lack of imagination.
There are always good chances to take someone's idea and add a contribution to correct it/improve it, highlighting weak points and propose some stronger alternative instead.
That's what discussions and brainstorming is all about.
My fail here is not the bad suggestion, but believing that people of this community could be proactive.
Instead I see people complaining for ganking, complaining for bugs, rejecting anyone's ideas... it's all a big whining here... grow up gents!

Insulting people who don't like your idea. Classic.
