In 2022, staff from Hanoi University purchased a selection of 'supergiant' isopods at a seaford market in Quy Nhơn City in Vietnam, intrigued by a burgeoning market for the deep sea crustaceans as a delicacy.
Thanks, I am only doing this one but that is a good alternative towards the JW Locust, actually maybe I could do another, probably not but let's wait and see, anyway thanks for the inspiration.
GROOOAAAAN
There's a little Hermann's tortoise at my local pet store! I want him so bad, but it's not a good time in my life to have a pet! Also, I'm living with my parents right now (it's just cheaper), and they're not really pet people, especially my mom. However, I'm trying to stop myself. I'm not too much of a pet person due to the pet-free living, so I'm scared of committing to it. I'm also scared that I might subconsciously see it as a nice thing to have instead of a pet. I just want to convince myself to let it go.
I'm not looking for solutions. I just wanted to vent.

I mean for what its worth when landlords say no pets it mostly refers to cats and dogs. Law wise they cant actually say anything against "small animals" so hamsters, aquariums, terrariums and stuff. Atleast where i am, might be different depending on where you live.
I can talk you out of a tortoise if you want to as im also toying with the idea of getting one every now and again, but havent done so far because i cant really provide what i would want for it right now .
Hermans tortoises (and tortoises more generally) dont make the best pets for most people imo. Keeping them indoors isnt ideal (shame on frontier for putting them in a glas box), so ideally you want an outdoor pen, which depending on where you live also could get tricky due to the climate not being suitable year round. So in that case you would also need an indoor pen with heating and lighting for when its to cold outside but to early for them to go into brumation for the winter.
And despite tortoises always being portait as slow and stuff they are actually pretty active animals and need space to roam around, graze and forage.
Also they do get really old, which is somewhat true for most reptiles as they on average live alot longer than mammals of comparable size, provided they are properly cared for, but ofcourse is especially true for tortoises.
And while that seems like a pro at first, i think its actually more of a con for most people. With something like a hamster you can reassess again when it lived out its days after a couple years where your life is gonna be in the future and if keeping a pet is still for you. With a tortoise thats not really an option since with a lifespan of up to 80 years they are pretty much more than a lifetime commitment
Still for the right person a tortoise can be a wonderfull pet and a lifelong companion

Yeah I've had this dumb stoner idea for a long time that I'd have a pet tortoise and I would bejewel her shell and name her Bling.
But I'd never act on it. 1, because acting on stoner thoughts is generally a bad idea, and 2, because I hate the idea of a pet outliving me. It seems cruel both to the animal and to whoever has to clean up your stuff after you when you go. Kinder to leave this mortal plane in a tidy and uncomplicated fashion.
Btw RIP David Lynch today, that's a sad one for me anyway, I love his weird ass films.
Speaking off pets, I am considering getting a blue tongue skink and wonder what is the best duel uvb + heat lamp that is under 50, and what website (chewy, petrol, etc) is the most affordable (if I do get one it would be at least a year from know but I would like to be prepared)
No one warned me before getting a beardie that im inviting a dumb as bricks, moody, lazy, judgemental, longer living cat that refuses to eat salad into my life but hey, so far i dont regret it, but he certanly didnt give a damn about any care guideline books i got with him

I use the ones from solar raptor for my monitor and i cant complain so far. That one is 35ish € depending on the wattage. Although one thing to keep in mind is that you usually need a ballast (thats what google translated it as?) which can add another 80 something euros.
Personally i use the combination of the 80w deep heat projector and the 24w 12% uvb t5 kit from Arcadia. Aswell as some led bar for visible light.
But what exactly one should get is always hard to say as that really depends on enclosure size and material aswell as the climate of your house, and the specific species of blue tongue of course.
But if you want my advice, if your tight on money i wouldnt recommend getting into reptiles.
Especially with something like a blue tongue you will need to spend alot of money up front for a big enclosure, interior and electric stuff. And from what ive seen the lizard itself is gonna cost a pretty penny aswell in NA.

What if you got a tortoise in the latter years of its life? It might have about ten or fifteen years left in its lifespan. Sure you might get heartbroken when it passes away, but you gave it a good end and won't have any pets to include in your last will and testament.
So her is the description for my hybrid, the art might be a bit sloppy but intotal I don't think it's half bad and it could stand a chance against indominus rex 2.0
Edit: fixed some spelling errors
Apparently, they dropped a bomb on Reddit without announcement or elaboration.
Also, ngl but i'm not a fan of the modern day segments with people, i know it's a old trope used to introduce concepts and espelucation on dinosaur biology, but i personally prefer the close-ups, evolution sequences and X-ray used in Walking with Monsters rather than this.

What a bummer WWD 2025 is.
3 episodes all set in very late cretaceous NA about ceratopsian being hunted by tyrannosaur species.
Im getting tired of constant focus on late cretaceous. I need something fresh. Surviving Earth must save us. Cant wait to see suminia and carboniferous forest.

My hot take for dinosaur documentaries is that people treat the late Cretaceous like how Game Freak treats gen 1 of Pokémon, or how Games Workshop treats Space Marines.
Obviously they are the most popular, and for good reason. However the moment you really get into the series/ topic the sooner you get sick of constantly seeing it all the time!
Without getting TOO much into the politics of things as per the forum's rules - but I still think community is critical in times like this - my fellow Americans, is everyone okay?
I can safely say I'm not, but am finding ways to hold spaces for others.
I teamed up with another NYC based comedian and we'll be hosting a comedy charity show next month in benefit of Generation Q, a non-profit which provides aid, counseling, and academic opportunities to LGTB+ teens and young adults, through the Queens Community House.
I'll be certain to share more details if anyone is interested in learning more!
Thinking of you all, and hoping DLC 19 can provide some joy to the current joyless.
