This isn’t a great photo, but I caught this picture the other night when walking on a local prairie trail. It’s a common nighthawk! They are super cool birds and I thought it looked very pretty on the trail.

I just got back from the Lake Superior Zoo, where I saw my first ever fossae!! They're brand new to the zoo, and they're the only brother duo on the continent! View attachment 432487View attachment 432488View attachment 432489
They have a really nice enclosure too, it has indoor and outdoor areas, and the indoor area is stretched over two floors with a viewing at the top and bottom. It used to hold black- crested managabeys. I also got to see them during feeding time!

Since yesterday I'm ill at home. I got some kind of an upper respiratory tract infection once again. It's like the third time this year already.
The last time was around easter and it took three to four weeks to recover. I hope this time it won't take so long because it's really annoying and I hate being ill.
I suspect that my covid infection in December 2023 unfortunately had some long-term effects on my upper respiratory tract and immune system. Can't proof that in my case but long covid is a thing. Before covid I have been rarely ill and if I got sick, I recovered quite fast. And now since Dec 2023 I had a bronchitis which put me out of commission for 6 weeks, an infection with bronchitis-like symptoms (severe coughing) and a few colds which all took longer than a week...I wish my old immune system back.

Haha that's amazing! Where are you going to put it?

I am so sorry 💚 Long covid is a real thing and greatly underreported. Just a thought - have you also been tested for pneumonia? It might be worth checking with the doctor. I hope this current wave passes soon

Don't worry, I have been to the doctor a lot in the last months, every time when the symptoms started. Luckily no sign for pneumonia.
I think which makes both, recovering and finding a clear reason, much more difficult is the pollen allergy I suffer from, too, and which is much worse this year than in the last years. But thanks to my doctor I have found some good medications that at least reduce the symptoms of the allergy a lot.

It's not a cure, but turmeric helps with a cough. I've had a lingering cough for months, so I took some turmeric and I have had almost no coughing at all today

I'm so glad to hear that 💚

I am learning more and more how much difference it makes what I eat. Food honestly is medicine. Eating 30+ different plants per week does wonders for your immune system -

(explainer and example diet here: https://www.theguardian.com/wellnes...ts-week-gut-health?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other)

So far this week I've eaten 47 different plants 🥑🍏🍉🍌🥕🥦🥬🌶🍅🫛🧄🧅🌰🥜🍄 yum yum

I'm not claiming that you can cure your illness with food, but just that it has a big impact on the immune system so might help prevent or reduce its impact 💚

Agreed. Ever since I started to be more conscious few years ago about what I eat I feel so much better overall. I have clearer skin, faster metabolism, I do not feel as exhausted after my wokouts and I have more energy. The key for me was to eliminate as much proccessed food as possible. I do not eat 100% clean as it would not be possible for me due to suplementing protein, but I read that even changing as little as 30% of proccessed food to cooking from fresh indigredients have a big impact on overall health.

I agree about this.
That's why I cook almost every day and in most cases with a lot of fresh veggies and I try to eat as few processed and fast food as possible.
