Actually, while I haven't watched many Westerns, I do listen to country, but not like today's country. Today, it's more like country mixed with rock (rockabilly kinda fits that description, but it's not the same. Rockabilly is more like Elvis and Pat Boone)

If you want country that sounds familiar, then you can't go wrong with Willie Nelson or Glenn Campbell (I prefer Glenn, and my favorite song of his is probably Sunflower)
If you want more Western/Cowboy music, go with Roy Rogers or Sons of the Pioneers (Along the Navajo Trail; Home on the Range; etc.)
And if you want it with a slight Latin influence, go with Marty Robbins (his most famous song is probably El Paso)
Ay, I love country music. It's not often to hear people saying that outside designated country music spaces 😁 Sadly I feel like mainstream country gave the genre a bad name.

It's especially weird when I mention to people irl that I listen to country, since I live in eastern Europe.

I always say my three favorite things about America are Nature, Basketball and Country Music.

On the topic on Westerns, my father was always way bigger fan of them, and they were really popular in Balkans and Italy in those times. He had huuge collection of western themed comic books. I liked some of the modern ones, like 3:10 to Yuma, Jango and Hateful Eight

No offense to people who enjoy it, but to me, modern country is just not good. It's like pop: breakups and how they can't stand their ex.
Country for me is like talking about lost love (El Paso), ballads (does Bonnie and Clyde count?), and just expanding through the West (Along the Navajo Trail, Home on the Range)

And hey, I listen to random genres too. Old citypop, Italian, etc.
Nothing weird about someone's taste

That sounds like an interesting musical, I'll check it out.

Are you a musician Orkan? Pretty impressive to be able to even think about writing a musical! I wouldn't know where to begin! I used to play the flute and got pretty good, but gave up at uni. Tried to learn again during lockdown, much to my husband's delight (not... 😅 ) I can read sheet music but writing it, yikers. At some point you have to recognise where you are gifted and where you are very much not 🤪
Somewhat. I can play the piano and play a lot of other instruments digitally using the keyboard. I can kind of read sheet music but not super well, so that's something I would probably have to get better at if I want to write the songs for an actual production. I have enough experience with the technical and stage side of shows and script stuff so I think I could pull it off

Man, I used to play guitar back in the day, but I lost all of it. I haven't been able to practice, but I have 2 acoustic guitars.
If you play piano, it's a talent. Piano is one of my favorite instruments

I haven't really used this chat before but since the rest of the forum has slowed down I might as well.

On the topic of music, I play drums in a band with friends, it's nothing serious but it's fun to make noise. My favourite genre is alternative rock. I'd love to practice more once I graduate from university in a few months.

Hey, y'all ever had sweet bread? Specifically Mexican sweet bread:

This is a concha (translation: conch/shell). It's a bread with sugar on top. There are different types, like chocolate conchas, and I've seen yellow and even pink conchas.
Behind it is a churro. Delicious, filled with a sugary sweetness (I don't actually know what it's called)
I wanna try it. Never got around to it.

That reminds me I have had sweet bread in that sense, I had churros at some point when I've visited the southeast us, almost as good as cinnamon rolls.
I could go for some more, right about now
I’m not sure of any in my area. That’s not typically a thing that I look out for.
Hmm, if y'all have any areas that are predominantly Hispanic, there might be little bakeries run by people from Mexico, El Salvador, etc.
Not South America, typically Mexican or Central American

Sounds very wise to make this change, although I don't really know the story of Buffalo Bill. Surely anyone from that time & culture will be problematic but as long as you don't whitewash history, have a fresh perspective and are careful about how you represent different communities you can tell any story. It's all in how you tell it and who you allow to tell their stories through you. The story of who was working on the railway and what their lives were like might be more interesting and relevant than who was taking the credit for it.

Hell yeah. Django Unchained is fantastic.

There was a tv series a couple of years ago called The English. It flips westerns on their head, having a woman and a Pawnee man in the lead roles. One of my favourite tv series of the last decade. Very violent though so please be duly warned. It's beautiful though, incredibly poetic. I fell in love with Chaske Spencer more than a little bit.
Oh i had no idea Emily Blunt worked in a western.

I like gritty violent westerns so i might check it out.

There was one with Jeff Daniels that was also very good. Godless i believe it was called?
By the way, I recommend watching Blazing Saddles. It’s a spoof old western movies that satirizes how stupid racism is. Basically, a state attorney general wants to do some land snatching before the transcontinental railroad gets built on it, raising the price. Therefore, he decides to make a black railroad worker named Bart (played brilliantly by Cleavon Little) the new sheriff in a r@cist town. However, the plan backfires when Bart wins the townsfolk’s favor by proving himself to be an excellent sheriff. I recommend you all watch it! It’s hilarious!

I mean . . . I know how to find areas like that. I just never really have time or make it a priority. Also, fun fact: here in Florida, most of our Hispanic immigrants come from Cuba and Puerto Rico.

Oh right, you're in Florida. I for some reason thought you were higher up, like closer to New York for some reason.
Well, if you like sweets but not crazy sweet, then pan dulce is a great option. And it's usually cheap.
I don't know enough about Puerto Rico or Cuba, although I have many friends from there

So i got a call today from a friend because there was an adder in his moms kitchen, and since im the animal guy in my friend group and keep reptiles he asked if i could safely remove it.
Said sure and grabed some thick gloves, a net and a box and go over there. The snake was hiding in a corner under a little shelf, probably just as scared as my friend and his mom :D.
Well turns out it wasnt an adder, not even a snake lol. It was just a slowworm, or a legless lizard for anyone not familiar, completely harmless.
Got a quick laugh out of my friend and his mom freaking out when i just picked the little guy up with my bare hands and put it in a box and let him go near a little creek on the way home afterwards.
Its kinda crazy to me how there are just 2 venomous snakes living over here that are potentially dangerous and people can even identify them, or tell them apart from legless lizards :D
