So about the cancelled dev stream.

There is a certain level of irony that this thread, on the forums, is complaining that the primary way that fdev is planning to use to communicate with the 'community' is ... the forums. A few weeks ago I seem to recall the complaints being about information being spread on places other than the 'official forums'. They should have spin it that way, people would have loved it :)

(And ofc the real issue tomorrow is actually gonna be: fdev haven't said what the questions are - so everyone will be complaining they answered the 'wrong' questions ;) )

Hey Factabulous, i'll @ you next time we get information on Twitter and not the Forums, this happens a lot. ;)

It's great the forums get first dibs on release of information, that's how it should always be in my opinion but, the dev stream was kinda promised. It could have been handled "better" in my opinion as could many things with Odyssey to be honest.

Oh yeah, I agree! Playing "find the announcement" isn't great and having it here is good. I just found out funny that one of the few times they say they will do things here they get stick.

If they'd just kept quiet and pushed out the q&a when it was ready everyone would have been happy - they do seem intent on upsetting people 🤷‍♀️

Mention of a Dev Stream implies that the community will get to have live Q&A with a Dev. This is a huge thing for Elite, and doesn't happen that often. So if you're going to say you're having one, it would be in your best interests to keep your word on that. Or just, you know, don't say you plan on having one in the first place if you aren't going to do it.

Y'all will find any way possible to absolve FDev of any scrap of responsibility for both their game and their promises.

I can't with you people
Please tell me where FDev said "Elite Dangerous is a game"? Or where they explicitly defined what the word "promise" means?
Ha! Got you.

Just some hulabaloo about why the dev stream was cancelled

Excellent, thanks mate ;)

Outstanding - the hullabaloo is getting contagious! ;)

...might just be the funniest thing I've seen this month. Also, an avatar change may be in order.

Hahahaha cheers mate, thought I'd try something different! ;)

Cheers stormy, not because I am Facty, but because it's a good idea and Facty will disseminate I imagine :)

Wow, talking about sitting around a fire enjoying the warmth, aong comes Frontier drinks turpentine and pee's on the fire... They just keep added fuel to the blaze at the moment, who makes these decisions....... They should be trying to win back the faith from many of us who have/are losing faith in them. This sure is not the way, but I suppose the old adage of "Can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen" stands here doesn't it.

A forum post is easier to run past the CFO, the legal department and Mr. Braben himself before publishing it, compared to having your CMs deliver a message in a live stream without making it look like they're trying to play free jazz from the sheet.

Demanding a live stream is ridiculous.

Forum denizens obsessively dissect every single thing said by developers. Unless someone has a lot of experience in dealing with the press, they tend to make small wording mistakes that are not normally picked up in conversation - if it matters, the person they are talking to will ask for more information. In a live stream, there’s no guarantee this will happen.

The standard practice is to stick to prepared statements in situations like this for a very good reason. Yay for forum posts.

Some game company do livestream often for official stuff. I mentioned Warframe earlier.
People dissect everything when they are starved for information. Otherwise, it's surprisingly limited.

I personally don't care as I don't watch streams, but I highly doubt that's why most dislike this move. Most are likely irritated because they rightly see it as a move to circumvent live CMDR thoughts/feedback rolling onscreen.

The kitchen has gotten too hot for , so they are closing the hatches.
Yeah, but I've seen what constitutes a "feedback and thoughts" on some of those livestreams now.... it's 99% a cesspit of drivel and incoherent babble.
