So about the cancelled dev stream.

I personally don't care as I don't watch streams, but I highly doubt that's why most dislike this move. Most are likely irritated because they rightly see it as a move to circumvent live CMDR thoughts/feedback rolling onscreen.

The kitchen has gotten too hot for , so they are closing the hatches.
LoL 😂 well said +1

Make or Break came and went with the Alpha phase 3...

But I agree, a video summary can't be that hard surely!? If @Obsidian Ant can do it so can .
I was not talking about a video summary, I was saying why not have the Dev live stream as planned, and then a seperate thread posted after to give a recap of all the information given in the livestream.

Let's see what it says first?

A post is at least pure. No filling, no Sally - she could read me my tax bill and I'd be fine! - just data .. so a post shines a pretty bright light on the actual content. If anything I'd say it shows more confidence to post a post than vlog for an hour.

Plus we all know Arf has a tendency to go off script a bit. I like that but there are quite a few little girls about who don't.

This is the reason it was changed from stream format, to a forum post, as given on Supercruise News.

If it really was all about maintaining the integrity of the message, so it doesn't become diluted. Why not have the stream as planned, and then post a thread along side it with all the info given in the stream? Why not both?

By delaying CM talking about it until we, as a community, have discussed it, they can address our concerns regarding the development post. This makes sense...

If you are saying to do a stream first, and then post what was said during the stream, then this is problematic. So... any attempt for them to translate dev concepts in a live stream to a forum post is prone to more problems than the devs just writing it themselves.

At the same token, devs are not the best communicators. So devs, sitting in front of a camera, walking through dev concepts with a largely angry, critical, and possibly confrontational audience is largely problematic. It'd be a lot easier for them to just write something ahead of time and let people whose job it is to be "customer facing" to deal with the customers.

If you are saying you'd rather have the forum post posted concurrently with the stream, and have the stream go over what was on that post, I think that's fine...But the CM team would lose out on the community feedback (~ a day's worth), unless they're parsing/addressing our reactions/feedback in realtime (largely problematic and difficult). They have substantially less time to think about their responses.

Did they clarify ( 😁 ) it will be a Forum post? Could be a Twitter post :ROFLMAO:

Yeah I get that. A simple reading out of the update points would be a minimum viable video...

Can't see the problem with cancelling the Dev stream............you reap what you sow!

There seems to be a large section of this toxic community that have done nothing but slag off Frontier as a whole, it's departments & even some individuals....even to the point of calling them liars.

Why should that community then expect a Dev to come in front of live camera's & be subjected to more abuse from this section of the community. While explaining (s)he would be looking at the snarky & down right offensive comments being posted by idiots, about the work they are doing.

I expect this change was done to protect the employees at Frontier from further abuse that's been posted on various social networking sites regarding Odyssey's release.....

.........Plus I also believe that tomorrow's Patch is unlikely to quell the frustrution & anger of the community, as Arf said yesterday the Dev's are still investigating.

Led by some pretty toxic content 'creators' .. who apparently think it's appropriate to review the game based on, "what it's like if you cheat it," to gain a new suit etc. by .. logging.

Almost funny .. but very VERY not fair.

The lack of communication, integrity & honesty on FDEV's part during Alpha and initial release has fuelled such behaviour during that period.
Calling them liars at that point was founded and still is, again for that period of time.

All the negativity post release, is a caveat of that period where trust was lost and for the most part now doesn't add anything to the progression of getting EDO, so I agree with some of the sentiment you're trying to convey but probably not in the matter you've written in.

So they cancelled the stream because they were called liars then lied about why they cancelled the stream?

Having said that, they are absolutley liars. However, perhaps you're right in terms of toxicity and why devs may not want to attend a live the stream. Cant blame the devs if thats the case.

Eh, actually I would prefer to read pr releases and patch notes rather than a video (assuming that there is anything but gibberish), I can read faster than pr spokesmen can dither; Plus, reading also makes it easier to separate the information from the sputum.

It would be a lot easer to make a video if everyone was in say a office and not a bunch of different locations so a post will do for now.
But I was really hoping to spam ship interiors in the chat window

You are missing the whole point. This is not about how the information is given. We were already told a dev stream would happen. It is not going to happen now. All under the pretense of preserving the integrity of the message. If the message integrity is preserved by having it in written form, there is no reason we cannot have both the Dev stream (that we were told we would have) and a post along side the stream to have all the information in written form.

It is not about how they decide to share information with us, it is about going back on their word, again.
All the below points are complete guesswork and conjecture on my part and bear no resemblance to any events or persons, living or dead.
  • You cant have a Dev stream if the devs don't want to participate.
  • It's useful to check with the Devs that they are willing to participate in a dev stream before announcing it.
  • It's easy to cover up the fact you didn't bother to check with the devs with a story about how a dev post is a better medium for communications.

So they cancelled the stream because they were called liars then lied about why they cancelled the stream?
Wouldn't say that's the definitive reason why, it's more ALL of the flack that they've recieved on social media since Odyssey launched, including well over the top comments which INCLUDE posters calling them liars.

Doesn't surprise me Frontier have taken this action, in all the years that I'v watched Frontier Streams, I'v never known it being like it is now, were stream after stream the CM manager has to remind the community that he won't tolerate uncivil comments towards his team or Frontier staff.....................what a sad world we now live in:(

Maybe I'm a bit simple but why remind? If they can't comment in a civil manor, kick them and block them.

Behaving as they are now just generates a vicious cycle. The more of this they do, the more incivility is generated. That's not to say that all criticism is incivility, but if you can't ask questions without name calling and caps in a live format you don't need to be paid attention to.
