So let me get this straight...

GOOD FREAKING LORD, HAS NOBODY EVER SEEN "2001, A SPACE ODYSSEY"? Sorry for the caps but I am seriously wondering why you people have to bloody over-engineer everything. In "2001, A Space Odyssey" they used VELCRO on their shoes to remain fixed to the floor. That's ALL it takes, really. You have floors fitted with strips and boots fitted with Velcro and there ya go, you can stay on the floor all over. You can even put strips on the walls and ceiling if you want to walk on those. Now, the velcro won't work for violent maneuvers but then again, you should be bloody well strapped to your cockpit seat if you are going to get into a serious fight with another ship.

VR is a tricky one. Has anyone worked out how to run an FPS with VR and non-VR players yet?
The word on the street is that Half-Life: Alyx does a good job of it. Obsidian Ant mentioned it and showed some clips in this video of his:

He also mentions Lone Echo for an example of walking in low gravity in VR. Personally, I can't stand VR so it doesn't bother me but that's probably just me (and possibly a few others).

 ??? Strips??? Looking at some scenes from the movie now, and I have no idea what you're referring to.

this was the stewardess on the shuttle.

From what I'm seeing, this is an SRV re-skin. I was far more interested in being able to move around ships than to walk on planets. Walking on planets is least efficient mode of transportation of the current 3 options. I can understand not wanting to waste player's time, but we should at least have the option of manually dismounting and moving around the already modeled bridge/cockpits to an egress door. That would be a bare minimum for an initial launch feature. Otherwise, I don't see a reason to buy this until it's on a deep discount much later and more full featured.

I don't particularly care for VR myself. I don't even have VR goggles, nor would I likely buy them since I don't have enough VR games in my collection to justify forking over that much money for a pair so.

 Yeah, and it is your assumption that Velcro would be enough to keep someone firmly planted to the floor. I reckon they'd be using this method in the international space station right now if its really as simply as you think it would be. 🤷‍♂️

the same thing all space ships have to use for it. even today. The electronics are encased in faraday cages. It doesn't take huge magnets to be able to anchor a person and they're walking on floors. Floors which can be isolated from magnetic interference to any wires that may be utilized. Not that communication would be electric based in this time frame, it would all almost certainly be optical if wired at all. You're not walking on the control surfaces.

 Whenever I see explanations like this, I'm always brought to the same question. Why aren't they using magnetic floors in space ships now since it is assumed that a faraday cage would be enough to ensure that a magnetic floor won't screw with any instruments? You would think all the nerds at these various space agencies around the world would have figured this out by now, because if I were an astronaut, I wouldn't be a fan of having to float everywhere if I can help it.

This brings up another question. Will the planets with tenuous atmospheres be land-able for Horizon only players to drive their SRVs on? or will you need the Odyssey DLC in order to even land on them? If it's the latter (which I suspect it will be) then you'll be missing out on more than just being able to walk around. As of yet we've only seen the 1st dev dairy of many-to-come so hard to specify exactly what you'll be missing out on.

Because electromagnets are heavy currently, extra points of failure... and tying down works. It's a luxury feature not currently worth the cost

One doesn't usually own games for something they don't yet have. I know I never bought a Playstation game until I owned a Playstation. Same with games for my psvr, I wouldn't have bought a VR title without out already owning something to play it on 😂

Except this is not a VR game. Other games like House of the Dying Sun would be a much better example of a VR game since you can't even free look in the cockpit without VR goggles. Half Life: Alyx would be a prime example of a VR game, since it practically requires a pair to even play it. Elite Dangerous? Not so much. In this game, VR is a nice to have at best, but there is no incentive to use them in this game beyond the immersive experience it provides. I didn't buy Elite Dangerous because of the VR, I bought it because the Odyssey trailer sold me on the game. 🤷‍♂️

tell that to the VR crowd. The way I understand it, not only is this a VR game, its probably one of the best. Also, my point still stands. Who buys VR games if they don't own a VR? I suppose skyrim, borderlands 2 and nms are not VR games as they can all be played without VR?
