So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

Well, I hope nobody duplicates mine. It's MottiKhan in the game. If someone was to accidentally copy/paste that, I'd be so disappointed. They could also probably add a period at the end to make another me. And maybe a period in front of it for yet another me. ;)

Clones! Clones everywhere!

I'm CMDR Spartacus!

Not like it would be the first time I ran into somebody online who happened to pick the same name as me.

Along with the fact that I can't actually run into an Xbox player ingame here.

Because I have both pc and xbone accounts, there are times when one has to pinch oneself knowing both accounts share the same name. On the plus side, theres not a chance in hell of anyone else having it because I literally hold the copyright so to speak...'verminstar' has been my primary ms account for 5 years as welll as the primary pc account. I have used different names in the past but changed because...reasons

Well I think I'm gonna go play the game whilst I'm still me.. I'll leave you all with this:

This is an utter fiasco. Our name is our identity in game. I really want to like this game and Frontier, but a day never seems to go by without some moronic nonsense going on. If this game was a horse it would have been shot long ago.
And forum users would still be flogging it. ;)

Secondly, I don't recall there being any "pay for your commander name" so I'm not quite sure what you mean by your claim that you paid for your unique commander name.

Everything at £15 and above included a reserved CMDR name, not just Jamesons which were much pricier. There was also a short-lived post-Kickstarter Backers' App which allowed those who'd missed the KS to do the same, or for KS backers to reserve additional names.

I was a little concerned by Cosmos' original post but Michael is right; this is the way it was always going to be with the Xbox because of the GamerTag feature. My GamerTag (unused since Microsoft Flight was canned) is only a couple of characters different from one of my PC CMDRs so if I ever play Xbox it shouldn't be too much of a bind.

As for if and when the databases are merged, I guess FD could put a prefix on one or both of the Xbox or PC players' databases. As for the galaxy map, they could just render the name in a different colour. Green for Xbox maybe.

Some people paid to reserve name and have unique name on kick starter for elite. That may not matter to you but if i would have bought something that say i will get something i would be pretty disappointed if it turns out that i didn't get what i paid for.

Well unless you want to pay for your Xbox "doppleganger" to change their GT, I'm afraid it's really beyond your control. Beyond FD's, too.

FD don't have any power over Xbox names, and games on Xbox require users to use their GT, that is to say Live account name.

If that xbox account happens to share a name with a PC Elite player, well... Sorry but, you're just going to have to get used to it.

I'm a PC player and my forum name is my Commander name.

If anyone gets blown up by a suicidewinder outside Shinratra using this Commander name on the X-Box, or has their exploration Asp shredded by a fully engineered FDL, just be aware that it's not me. Or maybe it is and I've decided to buy an X-Box to grief people for lulz. I can't summon the energy to give a crap one way or the other to be honest, hell I dream of my life reaching such a stage of perfection that I'll be able to find time to worry about whether someone I'll never meet, playing a computer game on a platform I can't even access, happens to have chosen the same user name as me.

Has anyone ever seen a Discovered by XBOX ...... tag ?
Yeah, I must admit that surprised me. I've not extensively explored the galaxy like some intrepid souls but I've been out and about a few times and stumbled upon many a fellow CMDRs discoveries out in the black. I've never once seen an XBOX tag.

How very patronising.

Cosmos raises a valid point, and is entitled to express his opinion, as are we. This was a "feature" sneaked in. Not announced and would have been heavily criticised if it was proposed beforehand.

What, a feature FD have zero control over, has literally no impact on the game, not even first discovery tags, and is not actually newsworthy enough to have been discussed once for over a year?

There is nothing to be upset about except the usual petty them and us attitude some people just can't keep to themselves whenever anything happens relating to another platform.

Even the xbox getting cqc beta test first complaint at least had some validity, if that sort of jealousy is enough to get you all raged up inside. But that was still petty.

If FD had opted to not segregate Xbox first discoveries from pc with the "xbox" marker, then you'd have a valid point.

But they covered that issue. It is not an issue. It never has been an issue. The op read something and reacted angrily about it because they think they should not have the extremely unlikely possibility that someone they cannot see or share the game with might have their name.

So sure, a few self entitled people would have criticised it. But what do you propose FD do about it?

It's probably best to forget about all of the kickstarter promises.
From the "godlike powers" of the alpha's, offline mode and the premium beta extras, we're firmly brushed under the carpet.

I mean, I don't care either way but couldn't ED on Xbox had players enter names and used them instead of gamertags?
That name would still have been linked to that gamertag but only the ED name appears in ED.

Edit: I guess not.

Well firstly having paid a company for something one generally expects to recieve things as agreed when money changes hands. YOu seem to be suggesting that makes me have a sense of entitlement.

Secondly, Frontier chose to release the game on the xbox and chose to share the galaxy. They also chose to keep this situation quiet.

You know, Frontier has a history of shafting those who backed the project. There is a list of things that haven't been delieverd or renaged upon, this is another, and yet here you are defending them. You know there wouldn't be a game if it weren't for kickstarter backers, particuarly since Brabens initial offering was extremely poor and the whole thing didn't look like it would reach its funding goal. Funny how all those smiles and promises are so easily forgotten now.

Is it really too much to ask for things we paid for to be honoured? All you are doing is excusing crappy, shady dishonest behaviour. Its not me who has gone back on his word here, and frankly if you have a problem with that I haven't got the time of day for you.

No. Xbox requires that the Live account name is used as in-game name, on ANY game, not just Elite, for a number of reasons, chief of which is being able to quickly identify accounts breaching ToS.

You're missing the point.

FD CAN'T CONTROL XBOX NAMES.

Xbox version didn't exist then.

If you want my opinion, you should have considered the possibility of the game expanding if it were successful, and what that would mean for names.

Such expansion would likely mean implications for names. That's just how the console networks work. They insist that their customers get first choice in names.

Maker forbid the storm that would erupt if this game does a War Thunder & consoles start to instance with PC.

Apologies for shouting.

You're missing the point.

FD CAN'T CONTROL XBOX NAMES.

They could control other things though. For example, instead of CMDR, the title could be something else, so on discovered-by tags and any screenshot or video you would immediately see what platform it is from without having to resort "(Xbox)" suffixes and such.
