So.....that Tech Broker

People appear to be forgetting that we are getting the ability to trade materials (&, I suspect, Data too) & that the look of the landable planets is also now going to play a role in finding certain materials. This cumulatively means much less grind than we have had pre-Beyond.

I suspect it will become even less of a grind once Q4 improvements to Mining & Exploration go live. Sad that some.people *never* see the bigger picture.

Maybe the reason for people not seeing the bigger picture is because there isn't one.

This thread has gone some weird directions...

I’m fine with the concept of the tech broker as they’ve implemented it. I’m more worried about the content of it, hopefully it’s not all weapons and cargo racks. Yes it is technically a new grind to unlock things, but with the material trader coming too we’ll be able to gain any materials by playing the way we want to and then trade for the materials we need. So I don’t think the grind aspect will be too bad after 3.0, less than it appears to be coming from the point of view of the live game today. The tech broker content though I don’t know, Frontier does love to focus on combat stuff.

Get the feeling people complaining don't actually want gameplay, or their unclear on the concept of gameplay. they just want a toy godmode spaceship to faff about with before they're called for dinner, like a kid with hot wheels. Me, I'll play the game, cheer FDev on, give them some $ for encouragement, and go make food-like stuff (or order pizza).

I can't disagree with this to a large extent.

There does appear to be a worrying number of ED players who consider ANY gameplay to be a grind. I am not sure what they would consider compelling based on their comments and remarks.

Sounds to me like most of them want to PHONE IT IN and do nothing but as you said..

"Fly around in a Godmode Spaceship before being called to dinner".

Is this laziness, entitlement or what? Not sure, but "Burned Out" would be an applicable term for these folks as well.

Aye I worry that's the first thing they've shown. It'd be great if there was some part that focused more on the rest of the game - especially in terms of advancement of the alien races/archaeology stuff there's a tonne of interesting tech that could come out of it, not just guns.

Have fun trollingdisagreeing with me.

No problem.

Hopefully there will be specialised modules for other professions. Combat has, and continues to get, a lot of love from FD.

So...when do we get meaningful interaction that isn't grinding for unlocks?

Characters that remember our interactions. Allies and enemies based on our choices. Interesting circumstances only we get ourselves into?

Or...can this engine not do more than grind? Where's the road block to actual content? Is it technical, philosophical...or talent based?

Grind is a choice. Don't like It, don't grind. There is tons of content, how you use it is your choice.

No. There isn't "tons of content." Seriously, just stop. It's gotten pathetic already.

We who claim grindy shallowness cite examples. We offer suggestions.

But you "plenty of content" folks...funny how you can't actually SUPPORT that claim...very telling.

Lots of repeating the same few transient tasks...isn't content.

You are getting pathetic yes I agree with that. There is lots of content. Just play the game. As to you repeating the same task again and again, that is your choice.

One thing I do agree with you though is about the lack of consequences. That won't change the basic gameplay, but it certainly can give it more reasons to do stuff. But if you feel like you grind now, putting in those consequences is not going to change anything.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I love memes as much as the next person, but let's give it a rest. I just removed several meme-y, off-topic-y posts.

Be excellent to each other.

I am going to try something: I'm going to play Elite. Doing only the stuff I personally find fun: hauling, passengers, occasional base raids and prospecting. Very occasional combat.

I am going to spend a month or so playing this way, and see what I can unlock. Without any focused grinding.

If you're right, and I'm the one creating my own grind, I will happily admit as much, because this will have rekindled my interest in the game. But I am going to give it an honest go, I swear.

Have you ever considered you're not meant to unlock everything?

I mean in a very large number of games you choose your class and the skills available to you are based on that - why shouldn't that be a thing here?

The devs gave us the choice and freedom. Some have taken that as "I CAN HAZ ALL THE THINGS I MUST HAZ ALL THE THINGS GIVE ME ALL THE THINGS EASILY EVEN THO I REFUSE TO DO ALL THE THINGS" and well... that's not as intended.

Some of us don't even try to get to Elite - we just play. Stuff happens. We enjoy it and the stuff that happens - and we don't just reduce it to %ages on the way to 'our G5 corvette'

Personally I don't see how 'personal missions/chains' can work without changing the whole way that Elite works. It doesn't work like other MMOs in that you are no one special, you are just a pilot in a big galaxy trying to make a living. You are not the Laat Dovahkiin.

There is a means by which a single commander *can* become "The Chosen One":

...it just requires more effort and creativity than most commanders are willing to exert.

I think it's too early to tell... Yes, the Tech Broker is part of the personnal narrative, but maybe there will be more than that.
With the little leaked guardian thingy in the galaxy map, I would assume we're not done with all that stuff yet.

Max factor, you said, "Grind is a choice. Don't like It, don't grind. There is tons of content, how you use it is your choice."

As usual, you only look at this from your own point of view.

We are not all 'white knights'...nor ED disciples for that matter. It would seem however that you are...but correct me if I am wrong.

You are so right...but some people will always defend the indefensible, even if it is nonsense.
