So, what are the exciting E3 announcements?

Bear in mind with the backers app that all the marketing and streams I've seen from E3 have all been about the normal game. I've seen a tiny bit of cqc and I suspect the numbers would be the same regardless of cqc being an xbox exclusive.

I've known console development has been planned since kickstarter so I've always been for it. I'm just against the exclusive content especially when I can't play due to my profession being broken by 1.3. I'd happily be flying around in cqc right now and be able to play something since I've not even loaded the game since 1.3 beta.

Yep...complete waste of time from a marketing perspective!!

Wait...what's that at the end there?

(The peak in the beginning was the Steam launch...)
Maybe Steam summer Sale and the fact that ED is on top sales has something to do with that ? Being the Top 3 sold games on steam this week (and before e3 anyway) means you get many many new players. Learn your facts pls :)
E3 was a complete waste of time. And since they didn't announce anything i expect they won't anyway until NMS comes out and by that i guarantee you the ones who bought the game this week are going to switch to that. Ive been on steam for 14 years i know the trends, and they never stick to something unless it's competitive or it's superior to everything else, and ED is far from that.

Sorry, is it just me or does that website look absolutely terrible? I don't just mean subjectively poor design, but basically unreadable.

Fine on desktop. It's not optimized for tablets/phones.

Nope, horrible on desktop too.

elite_community_website.jpg

It's been designed with a fairly high resolution in mind, which causes the layout to get once it drops below around 1400 pixels wide, that's pretty much every basic laptop (1366 width being exceedingly common) out there and a fair few besides. I've made a request on the feedback forum that it should be optimised to include screens down 1280 pixels wide as they are still fairly common and really doesn't need to make a significant difference to the layout for higher resolutions.

Then I shall rephrase my comment to "OK on the desktop versions of Chrome and IE" :) Except the Read More buttons are poorly positioned and sometimes are overlayed on top of the caption text.

p.s. actually the typeface on IE looks much sharper compared to Chrome.

Watching No Man's Sky video actually made me feel better about Elite.

Idk, it just looks too much automated for me, I bet our planetary landings are going to be much better than that...not to mention everything else.

It also gives me a "Spore" feeling... may be the art style.

The way our instancing works I doubt our planetary landings will be that seamless, doesn't mean they'll be BAD or anything though.

I am not bothered about seamless, i just hope it is exciting.

whilst it loads in the background i would love some sort of landing process as we go through the atmosphere like in the shuttle entry in aliens. (but prettier of course)

not a million miles from the interdiction mechanism i guess, but with different eye candy.

this is just what i have in my head, the reality may be different :)

I have kept very close eye on the actual numbers (AKA facts)...the bulk of that peak happened right when it was released on Xbox Preview and before it was put on a 25% sale on Steam...

On top of that. Notice the peak at the beginning of that graph? That was when ED was launched on Steam. Do you honestly think that a 25% OFF will suddenly make the game jump that high compared to normal sales? If we were talking about 80% OFF or something, yeah maybe, but 25%? Nope, not even close.

It looks as bad in Win7 on Chrome. It's a very amateurish website. When I first saw it I though it was made by the comunity, rather than by Fdev.

You can tell it is real, and from FD because of all the up to date information there. They know that stuff first, so can get it up much faster than any old fan site. Just look at the patch notes page, for example. I bet you didn't know we were up to, er, 1.3.02 already.

:) :(

And still:
1. That graph has no dates so it's kind of clunky and Idk if I can trust it, but let's assume i do
2. What does that have to do with them being at E3, and literally doing nothing but sit in their booth ? They announced a new mode for Xbox One, but i doubt people that went to E3 were like, oh Mama Mia Pizerria i have to download this right now...It made no sense to go there. If theyw would have announced a big expansion, like planetary landings, then yeah. Even if they would announce it for 2017, but the hype would grow and so would publicity. Announcing it online like they probably will, makes less people actually know about that, maybe newcomers who didn't know about ED would look at it during the stream and say "Wow this looks fun let's search it up". Instead all they saw was "Oh look this game like all the others EVER has a PVP mode...Im so excited i could bash my head on a wall yay!"

yeah it is, on outdated OS and browser...

Talk about being passive-aggressive.

The site has formatting issues on a 2014 Chromebook as well. The problem with website design is everyone has their own thoughts of what looks best and it is a struggle for designers to find compromises.

Every dot is 10 o'clock in the evening (Swedish time) on a daily basis since the middle of March (with the exception a week ago when I went on vacation and therefore the gap at the end). I've taken the numbers from the Backer App page we KS backers have access too. That last dot was that time on the 17th this month (yesterday).

I don't really care if you trust it. ;)

Them partnering with Microsoft and launching ED on the Xbox Preview program as a E3 announcement has everything to do with that bump.

Of course it has.

If they had gone to an exhibition about PC space games only, and announced what they have announced, then I agree it would have been a waste. But E3 is a huge, multiplatform thing. They made a big announcement on the XBox. They made a big (if not huge) announcement if you are in to roller coasters - and it seems more players are in to that as a theme than Elite. And even without those things, this is a studio that is trying to change from a little subcontractor for other folks into being a big boy doing their own thing. What impression would they have given to the games world if they did not turn up to E3? Rumours that they must have gone bankrupt would soon appear. I used to work for next, the UK retailer, and I recall the day when there was a very heavy snowfall in Leicester, and no receptionists managed to get into the office by normal opening hours. Someone 'from the city' phoned, failed to get through, added two and two together to make 15, and within a few minutes the shares had literally halved in value. They needed to be there.

Ho hum ...

Just tried it on an up to date Chrome on Windows 7. Looks horrible[SUB]1[/SUB].

Just tried it on an up to date IE on Windows 7. Looks horrible1.

Can't be bothered turning on our Windows 8 machine but you know what, I bet it looks horrible1.

Any chance someone could post a screenshot of this website not looking horrible1.

1) i.e. exactly as posted previously on my iPad and Firefox screenshots

Frontier had to attend E3. No questions and it was a big announcement if you are a fan of the xbone or wanted a PvP combat arena type thing. To be fair Frontier if Frontier hadn't attended people would be moaning that they didn't go. Remember Frontier is about more than just ED as well, the new Coaster game is a big deal for the company, yes it might not interest everyone but announcing a new game is big news. Damned if they do, damned if they don't springs to mind.

Them wasting* time with Xbox and lagging* behind SC and NMS has everything to do with the people that are going to inevitably switch to those if the game stays like this by then. IMHO it's a total waste of time. isn't that what this forum is about, opinions? Besides people here seem to share my general view. When the OP asked about E3 news, people said riduclous things like Cookies and discounted sidewinders, because pretty much nothing happened.

First of all...ED isn't going to "stay like this by then".

Secondly...how are they "lagging behind" two games that hasn't even been released yet?

NMS doesn't have a releasedate yet. When it eventually gets released I will certainly buy it, but you know what? I will still keep on playing ED because of all the things it will have that NMS won't have...

SC is still about two years away from official release if we are going to be realistic. ED will have lots of other free updates released by then AND probably 2-3 major expansions. Making any kind of comparison between the vision of what SC might be 2 years from now with what ED is currently is pretty pointless IMO.

IMHO it's a total waste of time. isn't that what this forum is about, opinions?

Forums are usually about the clash between different opinions, yes. Just like we are having now...but what has this to do with the subject at hand? The reason I posted my graph was because you wrote:

Basically they wasted time and money to go there and do nothing people didn't already know....soooooo yeah. Honestly sometimes i question the Marketing guys, what are they even thinking ?

I think the graph shows without doubt what the marketing guys where thinking and hoping for and that doing this announcement had a pretty big impact on sales for the game. AKA good marketing!

Besides people here seem to share my general view.

I can say that people seem to share my point of view too, but that is also beside the point... ;)
