Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Yes that is more pressing than the arctic.I'm just saying that being an icon of the arctic is also a reason we want the musk ox.
Bat-eared fox is icon of the grasslands of Africa. Just Kidding. I think the African Grasslands are pretty done with their icons aside from maybe a crocodile species...

Take it from someone who talked about baboons for 3 months non stop last fall, they won’t 💀
By the time one DLC is out, at least the roster for the next one should already be established, if production on some of the animals hasn't already started.

When Oceania came out some work was probably already underway on Eurasian animals.

All I'm saying three months is nothing, raise those numbers ↗️ this is grind 😤 💪

I've been claiming for birds and southamerican animals for three years. I don't think i have to elaborate further on that.

I’m sorry, I’m sure Frontier will listen to us this time. At least we have each other, and what’s left of our hope.

I’m sure this time we will get the birds and South American representation we have been waiting for!

This time……

This time for sure.

Shoot I like this I’ll give it a shot! My restrictions are only two birds per continent. I’m also gonna try to make use of “clones” mostly.
As the resident bird crazy person of this forum here would be my recommendations for the “bare minimum”

North America:
  • Wild Turkey would be the “boring bird” option for North America. Personally I need it.
  • American flamingo would be our resident pink pretty bird
South America:
  • Greater Rhea, might as well get our SA ratite
  • Scarlet ibis, I WILL GET MY TWO PRETTY PINK BIRDS
Europe:
  • Western capercaillie, to be honest an underrated pick.
  • Mallard Duck, a great way for me to cheat and get more NA representation. Also imagine how pretty the European ponds with the mallards and mute swans would be.
Africa:
  • Grey Crowned Crane, personally my choice over the secretary bird. I love mixed species exhibits, and I would like another option over the ostrich.
  • White faced whistling duck, you all know why I want it. Also a way for me to cheat and get another SA representation.
Asia:
  • Golden pheasant, beautiful in every sense of the word.
  • Mallard duck, yes I would like more than one duck. In my dream world we have these three species I mentioned and go on from there.
Oceania:
  • Black swan, in my dream world the waterfowl species are the two swans and three ducks. All representing multiple continents.
  • Australian Pelican, I know in my list above I wanted the brown Pelican. That’s assuming I can get no more SA/ NA rep, if we get two birds from each continent then I would like this guy.
Antarctica
  • Only one more penguin, I will go with rockhopper.
I recognize I go against what is in the meta wishlist, but these would be my two picks per continent. In total it would bring up the bird biodiversity in game too:
  1. 2 Flamingo species (greater and American)
  2. 4 groundbirds/ game birds (capercaillie, wild turkey, golden pheasant, and peafowl)
  3. 3 ducks (mandarin, mallard, and white faced whistling)
  4. 2 swans (black and mute)
  5. 2 cranes (red crowned and grey crowned)
  6. 5 ratites (ostrich, emu, cassowary, kiwi, and greater Rhea)
  7. 1 ibis (scarlet)
  8. 1 pelican (Australian)
  9. 4 penguins (king, little blue, African, and rockhopper)
And this is what I find most important, here would be the final bird picks by continent:
  1. North America: wild turkey, American flamingo, scarlet ibis, mallard duck
  2. South America: American flamingo, white faced whistling duck, scarlet ibis, greater Rhea, king penguin
  3. Europe: mallard, mute swan, western capercaillie, greater flamingo
  4. Africa: greater flamingo, grey crowned crane, ostrich, white faced whistling duck, African penguin
  5. Asia: mandarin duck, mute swan, golden pheasant, red crowned crane, common peafowl
  6. Oceania: cassowary, emu, kiwi, little blue penguin, Australian pelican, black swan
  7. Antarctica: king penguin, rockhopper penguin
Sorry for another long post, but I think this is what I would envision with my breakdown.
I like the 2 birds per continent idea

north america
  • wild turkey
  • canada goose
south america
  • rhea
  • tinnamou
asia
  • green peafowl
  • golden phesant
africa
  • secretary bird
  • lesser flamingo
oceania
  • magpie goose
  • black swan
europe
  • ring necked phesant
  • eurasian spoon bill
antartica
  • rockhopper penguin
  • emperor penguin
Whenever I feel anxious about the future of PZ, I always return to this video to see how far we've gone and how hysterically wrong the creator was, especially at 8:10:

Oh how nothing has changed we have been saying the end is here since the very begging
More plants are always great, but having a scenery pack taken up with them would be quiet a bummer for me
I mean if they dedicated a scenery pack to just plants and garden pieces so over 100 new plants that would be pretty good in my eyes and worth a scenery pack

Yes that is more pressing than the arctic.I'm just saying that being an icon of the arctic is also a reason we want the musk ox.
There are plenty of zoos with robust Arctic sections (polar bear, reindeer, pinnipeds, wolves, Arctic fox), yet only one US zoo outside of Alaska has musk ox. The most common Arctic zoo animals not in PZ are all birds of prey.

Yea, only 4 zoos in North America with musk ox (Calgary, Assinniboine Park, Point Defiance, Alaska). Europe is luckier, there is currently 24 zoos with musk ox with the country distribution being:
  • Russia: 4 (There is more Russian zoos with the species though these are in Siberia)
  • Sweden: 4
  • Germany: 3
  • Denmark: 2
  • Finland: 2
  • Czechia: 2
  • Norway: 2
  • Belgium: 1
  • Estonia: 1
  • France: 1
  • Lithuania: 1
  • Switzerland: 1
It must be said that more zoos are going out of the species, however its more of a case of species in "unsutiable" areas going out of them. There is basically no holders in western or southern Europe as musk ox struggle here in the warmer months with the heat as well as with disease. Most of the countries holding them now are colder. A total of 6 zoos in Europe have stopped keeping muskox since 2020 alone.

And unfortunately you cant house them indoors either :D

Well, unless somewhere decides to build a giant indoor warehouse lol. The idea of a fully indoor huge zoo building filled with polar animals as a concept is fascinating and I'd like to try that in PZ one day... Maybe if we get the musk ox and walrus I'll finally do it.

Whether or not it's the finale pack I think we can safely assume that the delay is the result of the console port.
Probably more just accommodating a new player base, rather than delayed due to workload (if it doesn't release on console at the same time, then it does sort of just leaves the workload, or being larger).

It is something they would've been working on for about a year based on other ports, maybe even explains the types of DLC animals last year to a degree (The Arid and Eurasian packs in particular seem like lower novelty than previous when it comes to forms).

Ngl I am pretty against a bird pack. (Unless its the dream scenario of aviaries which most likely is not happening) it's just for the last pack it shouldn't be a focused pack. It should be broad for a nice close off
If they're going for a Planet Zoo sequel in only a couple years (like late 2026), flighted birds would be expected to be effectively reserved for it. Them and full aquatics would be the only major potential gimmicks left to hold back really (maybe 1 or 2 species, but probably not a whole pack).

If they're thinking more like an end of the decade sort of sequel, or no sequel (Planet Coaster 2 is expected this year, so I've doubts on never), I'd think we probably would've seen a flighted bird by now, but a DLC focused on them sounds reasonable enough.

I imagine there's quite a few equivalents overseas, but Mount Thebarton was an indoor ski slope, with a sort of artificial snow. I remember tobogganing there as a kid.
