Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Honestly if we had to get another NA pack I would prefer the focus being on the Sonoran desert with Mexican theming. Outside of a bird and two mammal exceptions (ABB or Sea otter) I don’t really care for more NA animals to represent the temperate/ taiga/ boreal. To be honest if we didn’t get the ABB or sea otter I wouldn’t be too upset, we have a lot of great mammals for NA.

For fun this would be my theme:

🤠 Wild West pack 🏜️
  1. Black tailed jackrabbit (I know what I said about mammals, but we could use a rabbit and tbh I want this over a coyote)
  2. White nosed coati
  3. Greater roadrunner
  4. Burrowing owl
  5. Exhibit: Colorado river toad (I was thinking the collard lizard but with the Gila monster, scorpion, snake, and spider, I think there could be an amphibian)

The pieces would be wildwest/ Mexican themed:

I was thinking the animal statues could be based on the Alebrijes:

would make for some cool themed statues!

We could also get some other generic props for Mexico/ the Wild West
So adding these guys you can make a very realistic NA desert area:
  1. Jackrabbit (new)
  2. Coati (new)
  3. Roadrunner (new)
  4. Owl (new)
  5. Peccary
  6. Prairie dog
  7. Armadillo
  8. Cougar
  9. Jaguar
  10. Pronghorn
  11. Bison
  12. River toad (new)
  13. Rattlesnake
  14. Scorpion
  15. Tarantula
  16. Gila monster
Bonus: if I could get them in somehow, I really want gambels quail:

i can understand not being all that interested in the upper part of North America - we've got great representation. My thoughts were coming from some choices of American Black Bear, Elk, Muskox, Wild Turkey, Walrus, NA Otter, NA Porcupine - with the ABB being a surety of course. Not the most exciting of rosters no matter which ones were chosen. And then you have the exhibit animal which I have no ideas because nothing much interests me for it.

Wild West Pack is some what similar to what I had in mind for Central America - even if a Coati is the only shared species between the two. That could actually open up having two coatis - one for NA and one for SA - a bonus since it would get two animals out of a difficult rig. My Brazilian Porcupine dream lives again!!

Really like your idea for the statues and additional props. Even taking the exhibit animals out of the equation, there's a lot of base game animals that do not have generic statues, only heavily themed ones. Which I get was to give them that uniqueness, but it also removes the possibility of theme cohesion.

North America in general just doesn’t have interesting animals left imo.
That's very true. I mean, the ABB is iconic and I don't think many would argue that - especially those living in North America, but iconic doesn't necessarily equal interesting. I've made my stance on more otters clear so a NA river otter would be welcome by me - it's also one of the most popular mods on the mod site, which counts for something I'd think. But to most, it's just another otter. The NA Porcupine is different from the Crested but I can't help but only feel marginally interested in it. The Muskox is different looking, but do we need a another NA Tundra ungulate, since already have 3, and the Elk is a bigger Red Deer/Fallow Deer in North America. The Bighorn Sheep is interesting looking but not really on my radar. The Rocky Mountain Goat, Coyote, White Tailed Deer and Canadian Lynx are truly uninspiring choices IMO. There's nothing truly unique about any of these.

A Sea Otter and Walrus could be useful and different, but I also can't help but vaguely interested in the Walrus at best. Again, Sea Otter is an Otter so that's fine by me. Arctic and Snowshoe Hares would certainly bring something different, but they neither seem to have a lot of support or requests asking for them, nor do they have a lot of zoo holding. Neither of which point means Frontier wouldn't put one of them in, but it's not in their favor.

Once we got the Wolverine, my remaining mammal wants for North America lagged far behind.

When we got butterflies in the WTE that was the peak of the walkthrough exhibit. Everything was just downhill from then on with the next 2 WTE animals either having severe problems with the layout of the exhibit, or an animal that should’ve been a bird but turned out to be an exact copy of what we already had providing nothing new to the WTE roster.
If we don’t get birds in the WTE which we probably won’t, the WTE feels like it was just made for butterflies, cause that’s the best thing that came out of the whole systems addition.

That’s because the most interesting animals for NA are mostly made of birds which Frontier doesn’t care for. It doesn’t help that the symbol for the USA is one of the most iconic birds in the world, being the bald eagle. Which won’t be coming to the game.

I mean I would say the collection of birds we could get for NA could be very cool:
  1. More waterfowl is a no brainer, including things like the Canada goose and the wood duck. Of course the mallard works too. On top of maybe around 100 other duck species.
  2. Another crane species like the Sandhill and the whooping crane.
  3. Any of the pink trio, scarlet ibis, roseate spoonbill, or Caribbean flamingo.
  4. Wild Turkey makes for a good “domestic” and a good generic temperate filler bird.
  5. Brown pelican, it’s a pelican enough said.
  6. Finally any of the desert birds: burrowing owl, greater roadrunner, or gambels quail.

I agree, plus all the console stuff on their socials seems covered, they did the reviews trailer and asked all the basic questions like what people have done on console so far, this week could finally be it 🙏
The proverbial stars seem to be aligning for us! Everything we've discussed already plus the timing. Assuming this one's gonna be cross-console... A late April/early May DLC would fill the gap nicely between the initial console release and initial DLC drop - and whatever DLC they plan to release on console in (probably late) May.

I'm actually really interested in a few of these species. Particularly the ABB, otter, and porcupine. There's plenty of species that could be added for North America that would be interesting and fun but I'd be kidding myself if, beyond the three that I listed, I thought they'd be big sellers or that there's anything truly "iconic" missing.

On May 28th the next bundle (aquatic and twilight). Id assume they need a week prior to hype this up so I really think that gap of mid April to mid May is for the pack, more so in April.

Also these art mashups for the bundles are straight 🔥

Fair point! All depends on timing. I guess I was assuming there would be a week or two of "no news, just regular ol' content sharing" between the two. Plus potential for announcement of another new game...

Really hard to say. But either way. We're in the home stretch!

Reminds me of so many people saying birds were coming next for the walkthrough exhibit 1.5 years ago with the twilight pack.
I still can't believe the WTE was released as free update content to everyone and there are still no base game animals that can use it. I love the bats so much, and honestly love all of the WTE species we've been given, but I'm still stunned that there are no birds to use it. It seemed so obvious, so logical, for birds to come out after butterflies. I can only imagine the wait is because of quality and they are working on birds for us.

I wish they do too. I mean it'd be just an excuse for them to make consumers buy DLCs to make it functional, with only three DLCs that have WTE usable species and none of them in consoles yet....🥲🥲

The same will happen with the next game, whether that's Coaster 2 or something else entirely. As much as I loathe to admit it, content creators play a big role in that as well, as their viewers tend to gradually switch over to whatever they're playing.
I do think we're a bit in uncharted waters though. The switch in Planet games was easily explainable, and whilst there's also a ton of coaster players that never moved, it's only logical that when an improved version of the Planet building system is released people move to the next one.

That being said, we have no clue of what a possible PC2 could be. I think that a lot of people just assume that it's going to be the same Planet system with updated graphics, but I could also see it being different based on the feedback they've gotten on the building system and the console success. I'm not saying that I'm expecting them to drop the piece-by-piece building system; but I wouldn't be surprised either if they move to a system that's closer to JWE's.

Depending on that, you're going to see a shift in people who move to the next game. So I wouldn't be too sure about us seeing the exact same shift this time around

It was never never a sign that there would be free WTE species added thought. It was added via free update so they do not have to include it in DLC files each time there is a WTE species added. I never understood why people thought that we will get a free WTE animal. Underwater plant feeder was also added via free update, yet no species in base game can use it. It is just easier for the devs this way, it was never intended for anything else.

The day that happens is the day the planet series dies.
Yeah, I kinda share that sentiment but on the other hand I'm not blind to the fact that the building system is one of the most praised but also the most criticized parts of the game. It is often referred to as the major obstacle in the learning curve and there being a bunch of blueprints people can start from still doesn't seem to be enough to counter that.

So as much as I would hate that, I would also get why they'd do it. It would give them a much bigger audience.
