Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

If a specific tundra pack was on the table (I hope not - I would prefer a more general 'cold creatures' pack), then perhaps my favourite wildcard option would be the red-breasted goose. It breeds on the high tundra in Russia, is threatened and is one of the most common geese in captivity.

But, perhaps most importantly, it would mean that the tundra pack is not just another set of brown / white animals all over again. At this point, I'd back anything that put a little bit more colour into the game.

Not a bad idea.

I mean, your choices are your choices, but this isn't an opinion I've ever really understood. Do Arctic hares feature in a lot of zoos? I know domestic rabbits tend to - petting zoos, barnyards, children's zoos, and the like - but aside from one or two collections holding pikas I can't say I've ever heard of a zoo putting much of a focus on lagomorphs.
I am really not that pressed about what species occur often in zoos, Frontier has clearly included multiple species that have low or no zoo presence in the past, so I don't base all my reasoning by that one factor, but that's my choice.

I think the arctic hare is an interesting species and its the lagomorph I would like see the most. It's a key prey animal for artic carnivores. It stands out from other types of hares to me, it's less of a "pest animal", visually is distinct, and while least concern now is likely to be threatened or worse in the future. Pikas would be cool too - there is approximately 110 species of lagomorphs and we have none in game.

Doesn't hurt that the Arctic hare looks different to the rabbits and hares that are part of the local invasive species control program I am part of.

That's fair, I'm not here to tell you your opinion is wrong or anything (half my most wanted animals are what most would call "wasted slots", "boring reskins", and so on). It's rather that I guess I look at a wishlist as a collection of animals one has seen in a zoo that one wants in their zoo, but I get that there will always be outliers. It's also that lagomorphs have had a bit of a boost in popularity of late, so the question has been at the forefront.

We only have 2 pinnipeds we need more.
Yeah, and more would be welcome, but they aren't going to put two in one pack.
The developers can always upsize it once we tag one.
I'm not sure what you mean? If you're talking about the squid, how little science knows about it isn't a problem as much as the fact that we're not going to see fully aquatic habitat animals in the game probably ever.

I think we both want the Sumatran tiger and most would call that a wasted reskin, but I love them haha.

I think lagomorphs are getting more popular as now it's one of the few major taxa in Mammalia that's not represented in the game, unless you count the rabbit topiary. The other two are Eulipotyphla and treeshrews iirc

Do you guys think that a Latin America Expansion Pack is possible, taking after Zoo Tycoon 2 with a pack of 20 species, many could be animals that don't really require new rigs, so let's see what this roster looks like:

Latin America Expansion Pack:
  1. South American Coati
  2. Black Howler Monkey
  3. Geoffroy's Spider Monkey
  4. Golden Lion Tamarin
  5. Greater Rhea
  6. Ocelot
  7. Southern Tamandua
  8. Patagonian Mara
  9. Collared Peccary
  10. Roseate Spoonbill
  11. Scarlet Ibis
  12. Common Squirrel Monkey
  13. Bush Dog
  14. Common Marmoset
  15. Kinkajou
  16. Plumed Basilisk (EX)
  17. Green Anaconda (EX)
  18. Northern Caiman Lizard (EX)
  19. Mission Golden-Eyed Tree Frog (EX)
  20. Linnaeus's Two-Toed Sloth (WE)
I think this would be pretty good, of course some easier to make animals like the South American Tapir, Tufted Capuchin, Guanaco, Black Caiman, Orinoco Crocodile, and this pack would be a good opportunity to introduce aviary birds with macaws, toucans and some others like Resplendent Quetzal, Hoatzin, Andean Condor and various others have potential.

No, there is really no reason to think that Latin American could get a bigger Expansion. The safest assumption is that the actual formula stays as it is. Animal wise Latin America should be an animal pack but I suspect that regional Packs are Put into Scenery Packs. So hopefully biome or whatever Packs will Bring a few of the other LA species to us.

Muskox & Walrus are better in a Polar Animal Pack:
  1. Southern Elephant Seal.
  2. Orca.
  3. Muskox.
  4. Eurasian Brown Bear.
  5. Chinstrap Penguin.
  6. Weddell Seal.
  7. Walrus.
  8. Beluga Whale.
  9. Colossal Squid
  10. Snowy Owl [WE].
I don't know why we'd get a pack with two extra habitat animals, two whales, a squid that is probably outright impossible to keep in captivity, and a flying bird that definitely should not be in a walkthrough aviary.

My concern is that a lot of people seem unable to imagine support actually ending. We're four years in - the game has exceeded the original expected lifespan (3 years, based on Coaster). Maybe we get another year of support, sure, but that's still only one year. The ever-shrinking core of players can't sustain it alone forever.
Yes, I'm not counting on infinite support. I'm guessing that 2024 will give us a few more DLC, and then that'll be it for PlanZo

Well, we could get a secret regional pack, like the Arid, Tropical, & Twilight packs were secretly Africa, Southeast Asia, and North America, respectively

I wouldn’t mind a Sumatran Tiger, but I would prefer it be an anniversary animal rather than a dlc slot
