Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I’m confused, do people want a new Asian Black Bear or do they just want the name of the Formosan to change? Cause these are 2 very different topics.
new asian bear not formosan name change
My bet is just having an animal called asiatic black bear or european brown bear, it must pain this group of people to see formosan or Himalayan bear notifications or listing in the market. I can't see how it's really a problem since you can just make a custom sign but I've seen this argument for years.
european brown bear would have different gameplay since its found on a different continent so if you actually care about foliage the habitats would look different from the Himalayan or the grizzly.
The notifications only pan me if I am actively pretending one animal is another otherwise I dont care and use both bears as intended.
I agree though I can’t see why someone can’t just use a species as another when the species they are pretending to be there looks literally the exact same. It doesn’t feel like a big ticket issue for something like the Asian black bear.
The thing is pretending looks different for everyone for me I just cant pretend one as animal is another going down taxonomically ie species to subspecies I can occasionally but if the go to the effort to specify the subspecies I just cant knowingly pretend its not that animal.
Monarchs aren't established in Africa to my knowledge, though occasional vagrants show up.

I had a look at what the IUCN Red List map for the monarch looked like, given Frontier usually bases their Zoopedia map on that to my knowledge, and this might be the reason:

Basically, the IUCN considers the monarch "native" to its exotic range for the sake of its assessment given it spread there naturally rather than being deliberately introduced, even though it only manages to survive in these regions because its food plants are invasive weeds introduced by humans. Still, as it says, the monarch is only really native to the Americas and isn't much better of a representative for Oceania or tropical Asia than any other exotic species is.

Just out of interest, here's a cool map of the spread of monarchs into the Asia-Pacific region:
Appendix-A-The-spread-of-monarch-butterflies-Danaus-plexippus-plexippus-across-the.ppm
yeah they clearly use the iucn as their main source of info for ranges and likely taxonomy but the monarch is not native to oceania and this should at least be noted in the zoopedia especially since continents it has shown up in small numbers naturally such as africa dont have it as part of its native range.
The never ending battle between wanting subspecies and wanting general species. Doesn't matter what is featured ingame, people want that animal not this animal. I really really hope that we don't get the asiatic black bear since the main argument for it is a general name change, we could get a tree kangaroo, lion tailed macaque or a blackbuck - nah lets get a black bear we already have because the name is more appealing.
The subspecies debate especially around more commonly known animals will go on forever.
For me if I want to build a habitat for a mainland asian black bear I just cant, it hurts me to pretend one animal is another I just cant do it even if they are as visually similar as the formosan and mainland asian black bear because in my mind all I can think about is how this is not what its was frontier intended.
To be clear I dont hate the formosan bear or want it replaced its good as its own animal but in my mind it can never be a mainland asian black bear maybe if it was the other way round I would be fine since in general pretending a general species is a subspecies is easier for me but I know for some people even that is impossible.

I also agree that adding they asian black bear is a wasted slot since very few people would get anything from its inclusion and even then it will be minimal so unless we are getting another 5+ years of support it can stay out of the game
Habitat birds have gotten a lot more talk after the swan, but no matter the votes, nothing comes close to this guy. Who wouldn't want such an amazing icon.

you clearly missed the superior option

Excuse me what? :D
Ducks are ubiquitous zoo animals, there are like 5 species of duck in the top 50 most common zoo animals alone on zootierliste.
I mean sure mallards will often chill out at zoos, but there are PLENTY of species intentionally kept there aswell
Idk what zoos your going to, but allmost every zoo ive been to had some wild ducks yes, but also atleast 3 exotic ones and also the "wild" ones signed out.

They are also allways allways allways present in the habitats for pelikans and flamingos, often in larger numbers then them.

Where im from purposeful duck habitats just arent a thing they are in almost every zoo but as wild residents of another animals enclosure so the dont feel like zoo animals to me but they are definitely important to the atmosphere of a zoo.

I like the positivity in here! Not long ago a lot of people were talking about the dramatic end of PZ and now we're confidently saying that we're going to have pelicans, ducks, bears, SA animals. I really like that :D Keep going but please dont bring the asian black bear on the table. What a tragedy it would be to have a 6th asian bears while not having the ones that everyone are interested in :| Let's focus on the North and South American ones.

Well it would be pretty ridiculous if PZ ended with a roster that has
  • quokka
  • skunk
  • egyptian fruit bat
  • 2 hylobatids

But no
  • coati
  • walrus
  • duck
  • more than 1 SA monkey

Whats a pack you want next but don't think it’s gonna be next?
The “Waterways Pack” (can’t think of a better name, most of the DLCs are one word only)

  1. Peere David’s deer
  2. Fishing cat
  3. Bush dog
  4. Slender snouted crocodile (or Nile, I want an African crocodile)
  5. Shoebill stork
  6. Scarlet Ibis
  7. Mallard duck
  8. Exhibit: Japanese salamander or basilisk lizard
Tried to think of a diverse pack, 3 birds are a Hail Mary but if we got two in one pack I can’t see why we couldn’t get three. Still has some Frontier staples: no flying birds in WTE, two animals from Carnivora, an ungulate (need one in every pack!), and a number of “clones”

Mountains. Gelada, Yak, Spectacled Bear and Markhor. The holy quadrinity. I can see this happening, just not next pack.

I genuinely believe (and hope beyond hope) that the next pack will be some variation of the Barnyard/Domestic/Children’s Zoo theme!

Im honestly really down for a children’s zoo. For me this would be the best possible selection of animals:
  1. Nigerian Dwarf Goat
  2. Squirrel Monkey
  3. Mallard duck
  4. Patagonian Mara
  5. Exhibit: honestly can be anything, budgies for the walkthrough would be great. But it would probably be something like the bearded dragon which is safe for children.

I'm pretty sure @Britches would lose their mind if we miss the Pallas Cat yet again, and I also would be devastated if we got a yak instead of the pallas cat.
But yes I agree, Mountains pack I can definitely see later this year, and now that the wolverine is taken care of, it leaves the fantastic four from my original concept for a scenery pack.
