Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Red & green algae a challenge? They also eat grasshoppers, crustaceans & on some islands, plants that grow on the land. How is it hard?
They predominately eat the algae by scraping it from rocks on the oceanfloor, so idk maybe they dont adjust to getting it served on a plate well? Like chameleons will die of thirst while being next to a full water bowl since they dont recognize standing water as a watersource, so maybe marine iguanas have something similar going on

Not too much. People are talking here and there about specific species. I think the coming months will be veeeeery long, asking ourselves what's going to happen so we fill the threads with small but interesting talks.
This is usually the way it goes, hah! There's usually chatter about some very specific species, then a bunch of memes, then a big argument that gets everybody back on-track because people say "okay, enough arguing time for some real talk - it's islands, right?!!" Somewhere in there, the outsource_lqa file gets updated on Steam and people say "It's coming!" Then the black bear shows up. And a few birds. Dinosaurs, thankfully, stay away completely unless JWE2 drops some news - in which case there is a panic over timing.

And then we're within striking distance of an actual announcement and it shifts from pack content to "when will we get an announcement?" Then everybody starts watching socials every hour on the hour.

And then, eventually, the announcement shows up. Like. Clock. Work.

The console teasing/release makes the pattern a bit harder to read this time around (because they're either gonna stick with the pattern and release a DLC same-week as the console or they'll break the pattern and drop it after) but... Probably not by much.

Ok new topic: What are some oddballs or more obscure species that would be nice additions to Planet Zoo? (Ignoring the potential near end for a while)

Since i build a South America house recently i was kinda frustrated over the lack of suitable smallish animals to feature in there. But after looking around i realised that most other places arent much better.
There is imo a general lack of small animals that you would normally see in indoor settings be it tropical houses, night houses or just something to feature as a side exhibit in indoor areas for "star animals" like elephants.
So my Oddball wish is more of a category than any specific species, but to name a few that i would love to see: Agoutis, slow loris, rofous elephant shrew, luzon cloud rat.
I do realize that most of these arent really what most people would call exciting and PZ isnt really geared towards small animals, or building indoors for that matter. But i do like building for small animals and those types of animals are a part of real life zoos that has be kinda neglected so far in Planet Zoo

I'm thinking the trumpeter birds could be an oddball. Like they were in Frontiers' Zoo Tycoon lol.

I would absolutely love to see agoutis, the slow loris, or the cloud rat! Cacomistles, ringtails, kinkajous, and bush dogs would all be welcome for more LA representation. I'd also like the porcupine or black-footed ferret from NA; the greater bilby and echidna from oceania; the ratel or any species of genet from Africa; and a palm civet from Asia. And, I mean, definitely the raccoon dog too. If that counts! Haha. I'm sure there's others too. I love small mammals enormously.

My big hope for a sequel (if it ever comes) is that they adjust the game so that it can be a little more geared toward smaller animals and indoor building. Maybe alongside a more versatile, flexible, and customizable exhibit system. Or some sort of "habitat box" that's placeable like the exhibit (and doesn't have a "gate"/can be accessed via the front glass like the exhibits) but customizable like any other habitat.

That would actually be really usefull. Getting the barrier, paths and gate all figured out in an indoor area is kinda tricky when trying to not make it obnoxiously big
Yeah, I’ve always thought it would be! I usually use pre-measured boxes to template it out… But it would be nice to not have to worry about the gates in the back, fussing with barriers, etc.

Just being able to place the boxes, tick the walls on/off, etc. would be really nice. And again - could be really ideal for smaller mammal habitats! (And reptiles, and birds, etc.)

Maybe like the giftshop panel, but with a box. And when you connect them it merge together.

If I'm honest they need to improve quite a lot for a PZ2 and if Frontier is smart they'll take a lot of our ideas with them. And I hope they take plenty of time for a sequel. I don't actually want to see and/or hear about anything in the next 5-8 years and then it'll be an absolute banger!

So I will avoid the birds for now:

I was thinking about this, but the exhibit boxes should get fish. I know it isn’t “Planet Aquarium” but being able to place down a box with fish in key areas would be a welcome addition. I was thinking about this when the leafy sea dragon mod came out. I don’t need a ton of species, but some Amazon fish would be nice for a South American section. Or maybe some African cichlids near some hippos. Or maybe some tropical fish in the visitor center. Little details like this would be very nice.

RIDDLE ME THIS.
What would be THREE updates you'd like to see in the Spring DLC?

A few I'd like would be:
  • Petting animations for select animals and guests
  • Playgrounds
  • Certain Exhibits can house multiple species like the butterflies (the tree frogs, certain bugs, maybe the iguanas?)
  1. Guest model slider, having thousands of people walking across my screen bogs down my poor laptop. Find a way to remove the models from my screen without me losing money.
  2. I don’t know how, some way to optimize the game further.
  3. Just flat out remove the negative guest radius or whatever it is called. I have never once in my life cared about staff buildings. Generators I get, same with the water machines and trash.
All a long shot but I couldn’t think of anything atm, though I’m sure I could thing of better things in a couple hours.
