Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Besides from all dlc speculation: I really wanna know why they haven't fixed the gift shops yet. I feel this is a major issue that should have been long fixed by now.
I thought that was fixed?

I thought that was fixed?

Pathfinding for staff still breaks the gift shops in usability. The corruption/crashes relating to the gift shop tiles was fixed in 1.16.1.

If a major bug takes long to fix... it's almost always because it's a difficult bug to fix. Combine that with having to work on bringing out a new DLC, it just takes longer than anyone wants, and that includes the devs that are working on it.
You are right, but in my opinion, they should at least acknowledge the bug and say that they are working on it. After three months with the main feature of last major update broken, posting a little message on the official forum wouldn't be so hard.

I must of missed something as well, an islands pack, after last year?! Like why
Because something like:
-Nene
-Tree kangaroo
-Shetland pony
-Radiated tortoise
-Javan langur
-Kunekune pig
-Raccoon dog
-Chamleon/Tuatara
Sounds pretty great to me. Im not really counting on it and its not what id want as the last pack. But if Support goes on its a nice way to fill alot of open holes in the roster. And with a roster like that, which isnt to far fetched imo, it could provide something for everyone.

And just because a theme has been touched on before doesnt really mean you cant revisit it, i mean that was the whole point of last years packs

That's something I can entirely agree with, communication is one of the areas I feel there's the most room for improvement, but that wasn't the question so I didn't mention that there 😂

Islands is a pretty versatile animal theme, could even include Walrus and Musk-ox if the qualifier is "range includes an island". It also can't include a lot of things people want, even with the broad definition, so I'm not sure on it suiting a "next final" pack if that's the idea (Native island monkeys are pretty rare in the Caribbean, you're apparently limited to Guyanan Howler monkeys [Trinidad], Cottontop Tamarins [Rosario islands*] & Trinidad White-fronted Capuchins. The Shoebill is not a candidate, and the Secretary bird doesn't seem to be).

Exhibit animal seems like it should be a Giant Weta, give New Zealand a second endemic (Bluff Weta first two, Wetapunga third)

If New Zealand gets an exhibit animal I feel like the tuatara has to be it.

As a scenery pack it doesn't make too much sense (Between Zanzibar, Madagascar and the Mascarenes, or the Caribbean, you probably could still do something, albeit not a stand out set), but as an animal pack it's generic enough to be flirted with still. It's not that far off from an Exotic/Worldwide species pack, which would objectively be better, opened up to basically all species.

It kind of only has potential if there's 2 or more DLCs left, I can't see it as a final DLC.

Here's some West Indian Ocean building examples (I'm thinking most is probably well approximated)
Zanzibar (mostly Stone town interests me, but I don't play the game):

I cautionsly want to disagree on that. I feel like the wider the theme is the harder it gets to make it good (or satisfactory might be a better term here idk). Yeah you open up to more opportunities for inclusions, but at the same time you also increase the amount of animals you will inevitably have to ditch.
Take arid as an example, an animal pack with a very broad theme: You got many people asking why no peccary, why nothing from australia and so on. If they just went with a less broad name like "saharan animal pack", they would lower the amount of exlusions dramaticly (aswell as having a more fitting name in the first place, and one that doesnt sound so weird in some languages, but thats besides the point)

(How does one even define what goes into an exotic animals pack? To me skunks are exotic animals, while to someone in NA they are as non-exotic as a it gets)

What if the DLC is delayed because they’re making it cross compatible immediately? Then they learn how to do it and we get another year of DLC that releases to all platforms at the same time?

i can think of some console games that had larger paid expansions outside of season pass and smaller DLC within the season pass. what if we see a shift to slightly larger, pricer expansion packs with more animals approx 12-15? that would be cool.

or we could also see the introduction of smaller paid clones? 1 animal per month for $3 or something, animals such as American black bear, nile crocodile. for console players the could be included in the season pass as a monthly "reward" or w/e

I doubt we would get bigger expansion packs as all things point to packs getting smaller not bigger. Frontier has just lost a ton of staff so even without console release in order to release packs at the same rate they would likely have to get smaller. In their financial statements frontier has stated that within 2 year 2 more games of planet zoos genre will be released likely taking staff away from planet zoo and onto new projects. the console release also wont help since it would both make packs harder to develop for a multiplatform release and also cause more work load with the porting of other packs. on top of all of that people are expecting more and more from packs the quality of animals keeps on getting better and better and the types of animals people want keep getting more and more complex.

I am all for single animal packs where you can buy a single animals for a small price less than 5$ I definitely do not approve of them being a subscription thing as it would just be too much pressure to use them constantly. But the idea of single animal packs would be great for more clone like and divisive animals like the american black bear and flamingo which have people who want them but dont want them to take a slot in a main pack.

Well first of all we don't even know if the DLC is "delayed". We had this entire thing as well with the Twilight pack, people were screaming "oh it is delayed" whilst it was just released later than we expected. The exact same is happening now.

The SteamDB has always been a way for us to detect when a DLC is possibly coming, but there's no set rules to when a branch has to be updated. The best analogy is that if you walk outside in the morning and you see dark clouds, you know there's a high chance of rain that day. But just because there's no dark clouds in the morning, doesn't mean that there's not going to be rain that day at all. The same applies to the SteamDB branches being updated.

On top of that there's no learning curve here. They've already ported DLCs, they already know how to do it. They're not learning how to do cross platform DLCs, it's not something they have to learn at this point in time anymore as they've already done that in several of their games.

I don't mean this at you personally here, but the community has to chill a bit 😅 The past few pages often have these half panicked questions and weird doom nonsensicale scenarios like "what if the new DLC isn't going to be cross platform", that just make no sense at all.

Just relax, there's a DLC coming and if it is going to be released later than we expect it, it's because they decided not to put it in the same week as the console release. No need for all these weird "what if" scenarios.

It's actually three games, they're already releasing one of them this year, and another one next year and the year after that. Though, we're not entirely sure whether these will be Planet games , it's just their own IP and CMS games, so Planet games are the most logical ones to go by.

That's boring though! We need some form of entertainment in the thread , what if scenarios are great fun especially when we have the serious and comical takes at the same time.
