Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Average looking bird pack is almost certainly more plausible option than 12-20 animal packs filled with copium and wonders people throw around since console reveal l o l.
TBH if the final pack is 8-12 animals (4 being WTE like in grasslands) I can see a bird pack. Obviously it would be a more realistic outcome than 20 animals, which we have had no basis to ever see coming.

Still, I used to be crazy thinking signs were pointing to a bird pack. I would rather not get my hopes up again. Thinking lorikeets were coming in Oceania was the final straw for me.

The biggest hurdle of those big final packs is that they have to be made somehow. Frontiers animal team is able to make 6,5 animals including one exhibit in a span of 3 months, so idk how much larger of a final pack one can exepct with 1-2 more months of delay. 1 or 2 extra maybe? If it was planed for longer perhaps some work could be done in spare time over the last while, resulting in another 1 or 2 extra maybe?
With all that said i think its more or less impossible to see something like a 20 animals final pack, just due lack of manpower to make it. Im calling 10-12 tops

To be honest I think a lot of factors would have to go into it:
  1. Are there any new rigs
  2. What are the textures, does the animal have long shaggy hair or feathers?
  3. Are there any new behaviors
  4. The amount of animals (duh)
  5. When did planning start
  6. When did work on the pack begin
  7. Research, especially into what the themes of the packs will be
  8. How much of the team was pulled to do console
  9. How much work has been done (like has work on this pack started in the last 4 months? Or has it been worked on for even longer than that)
If anyone is more knowledgeable than me in Frontiers past and usual inner workings please comment, I have to agree with your consensus though. I expect the max amount of animals to be 12 at most. That’s not 11 habitat animals either, it would be like grasslands. 7 habitat animals, 5 WTE/ exhibit animals.

Though if the final pack is diverse like grasslands I don’t got much complaining to do.

I mean first off, I don't think anyone would have problem with that 😁 For me just as long as it comes after SA pack.

I wouldn't say 12 animals is copium. Of course choices can be, but that's every DLC discussion since launch of the game

We have no idea how much time frontier has had to work on this pack whether it’s the final one or not, they could’ve been working on this for over a year and that thing someone said about using spare animals for every pack could be true, it could be habitat birds, we don’t know. So anywhere between 5-12 animals can happen imo.

For what I expect from the pack all I hope is that frontier actually tries to step out of their comfort zone of choosing easy clones like ungulates, I get that they’re probably the easiest because of the similar textures and build but at least try to use other clones like reptiles for example. In my 16 ep series where I ranked every pack I only gave 2 packs a 10/10 NA and Grasslands, I would like to hopefully see this final pack join them.

All other ungulates except my baby boy the Peere David’s Deer of course!

In agree with you though, regardless of the outcome I hope it’s something exciting. I don’t necessarily know if the last year of dlc was them ramping up for this pack, if so that would make sense.

I know not everyone will be happy, but I feel like if Frontier gives us a pack with similar reception as Wetlands and Grasslands I will be overall pretty happy :)

Yes, even if the final pack doesn’t give me the birds, or amount of them that I want. If I can look at that pack and think it’s straight bangers I’ll be content. Obviously I’ll be a bit bitter, it’s kind of hard watching my wishlist animals be glossed over. But if everyone is happy I can be excited with everyone else.

Ngl I am pretty against a bird pack. (Unless its the dream scenario of aviaries which most likely is not happening) it's just for the last pack it shouldn't be a focused pack. It should be broad for a nice close off

Actually I agree with you in the fact the last pack shouldn’t be focused on one thing. It’s best to try to give everyone a little bit of everything, or at least try to.

For me the only exception to that is if they decide to focus on South America, that pack could have monkeys, birds, rodents, reptiles, and even members of Carnivora. Overall it could be the most diverse pack we have ever had. Still, that would then leave out all the other animals that need to get in, like a baboon.

Bless you 🙏🏽

I can learn to live without any other, really desired species, but not my favorite deer!

Please @frontier bring the only mammal extinct in the wild and also saved by zoos to the game. It’s actually very exciting conservation story and super unique animal.

How would everyone feel if the closing pack was a scenery pack, with 5 top tier animal choices and the scenery consisting of huge amounts of new foliage and plants. As unrealistic as it is, I for one would quite enjoy this.
A diverse selection of plants would make me excited, I know not everyone cares about the new foliage but for me it's one of the best parts of each update.

I'm the exact opposite this is how I feel strongly about South America lol Knowing frontier they won't choose the interesting species of South America like Spider monkeys, Brazilian porcupine, spoonbill, ibis, etc. they'll choose the less exciting ones like rhea, ocelot, bear, howler or squirrel monkey, etc. which would be a real bummer for me. I only make the exception for habitat birds because for one we are extremely lacking, two there are so many different colours and types of birds for the pack to be extremely unique even if only focusing on one group, and three a lot of the birds wanted are spread across the world which is always good for a pack to have.

Whether or not it's the finale pack I think we can safely assume that the delay is the result of the console port.
Yes, and more than that, we should stop calling it a delay. Because a delay would imply that they didn't meet their deadline because of reasons, but if they never intended to release it in the Easter slot to begin with there's no delay. Then it isn't late.

The community really has the tendency to go "oh it isn't releasing when I expected it to be released, that surely means that they're working on something big". It happens every single time and every single time people are disappointed. 😅

Like I always enjoy new features, but if missing it means getting potentially more species or more complex species in the DLC, then I'm happy to miss the update, after all we've gotten 16 updates already.
Aside from the overall budget amount that gets spend on the pack, the update really doesn't influence how many animals you can have and, with PZ's animal system being pretty set in stone as it is today, how complex the animals are going to get. These two things aren't really interchangeable. There's other people working on those things, so the update does not really impact it that much.

Besides, if this is the last DLC, then I wouldn't expect huge features to be added. Looking at both the last update that came with Ghostbusters for Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution 1, those updates weren't huge or massively game changing. I think we can expect the same for Planet Zoo, I think one of the options might be that we get the scenario editor for ourselves, the same way they gave us the camera tools too (which was also a dev tool first). It would explain why they called the last scenario a swansong?

What is it you like about the Sapphire Ornamental Tarantula just out of curiosity? I would just go with something more dangerous. E.g., Thailand Black or the Cobalt Blue.
What I like about this spider is its coloration. Although I discovered another spider today that I also liked because of its color, and I could replace it with this last one. The spider I discovered today is:

Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula

Oh yeah if I could be super selfish I would want the final dlc to be the bird pack. The colors, the options, the improved diversity, everything would be perfect. It would be perfect for someone like me. I was a big fan of the bird dlc you proposed, and obviously I have my own wants too.

I just think if there had to be a pack for the community it should be a bit spread out. Give us some diverse and cool options.

If we are not getting SA then i also rather get the birds instead. At least i could get the rhea and maybe some other SA bird with it. Would still miss the coati, mara and monkey but we will all win with maybe a duck, pelican and some very much needed african birds.

I can see this happening, but wonder if it would be top 4 and then either a Cobra or Chameleon?
What's the thoughts here:

Howler Monkey - given the absolute roar on here for more New World Primates I would think it, or some other NWP, would be included

Coatimundi or Tree Kangaroo - I guess with just four animals they could focus on both of these, even with them both being more difficult ones to do. Honestly though I see only one making it in and my bets of the Coati due to the many discussions here about more Latin American species. Oddly enough if it were an animal pack encompassing all 7 of these animals, I would say both would make it in. But we're removing 2 or 3 of them, so my guess is not both.

Hamadryas Baboon - another primate but our second African monkey. Also would come from the Mandrill rig at the start, so it would be "lower effort" comparatively to the above anyways.

Secretary Bird - This one could replace the Baboon or Tree Kangaroo, possibly. If Frontier wanted to go all out with animal designs, this could make more sense than the Baboon. But if they need a lower effort animal, this one could be out.

Walrus - I'm sorry Walrus fans. It's the most recognizable animal of these animals, in terms of general public knowing what it is, but I just really don't see it making it in.

Muskox - another option for a lower effort animal (takin or bison/wisent perhaps)? BUT I don't see it taking priority over the Baboon.

If they did do an animal pack, these 7 and a cobra/chameleon make so much sense.

But that's all from the long standing Random Goat meta list. in the 2024 meta list, the Spectacled Bear, Markhor, Golden Lion Tamarin and Spider Monkey also rank very highly.

Just a thought - Frontier could just do the Spider Monkey, Howler Monkey, Spectacled Bear, Coati and the Golden Lion Tamarin/2 Toed Sloth and call it a day. Between both meta lists, all of these animals rank highly on either both or one of the two lists.

on the third hand. We're talking 11 habitat animals between those lists. We've discussed 12 animal finale pack before. It's not that far off...and it kind of make me think that these are the likely candidates to pull from, along with a duck and pelican - no singular species of these is supported strongly enough to make the upper reaches, but as a group of animals, the support is huge.

ETA: I hate this feeling like we're going to go round and round on conversation for possibly the next month and a halfish. We've talked it out. We've talked about our reasons we think "x" number and "X" species are going to make it in. We've talked mountains and islands, Latin Ameria, and now we're even talking about why a bird pack makes sense. I think we're all a bit worn out from the long wait here, that has no promise of a when something will be coming aside from something will be coming by the end of May, two months from now.
