Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

Besides that: They made the bloody soundtrack available separate a year later. Just because they have no plans on releasing the animals separate now, won't mean they will not do it later.
Im going to tell you fun and rather silly fact.
This bloody soundtrack was avialable since day one as part of deluxe edition pack. Year later they re-released it separately for same price.

Yes. For same price one can get 3 deluxe animals, THIS SOUNDTRACK and few wallpapers L o L. This is literally just an option for people, who dont have game, but wants soundtrack 💀

"Companys aren't your friend!"
Well, EXACTLY!
Which is why they need good pre-order numbers for investors and steam pushes. Which is why they want and need to sell the game full price, to make the biggest revenue with that.

The saddest part of this discussion for me is, that A LOT of people that now mourn for players that MIGHT not be able to have all x african antilopes, a mini hippo and another reptile in game down the line, did NOT scream "bad business practice" when hundreds of people were layed off, right before christmas. People without whom the game wouldn't even exist in its current form. People who actually cared for a consumer-company relationship. Did any of you even brother to follow people like Fran and read HOW bad it was?

But why should you be interested in THAT side of Frontier. That wasn't important enough for you to get heated up on, was it? It didn’t effect how much money YOU had at the end of the day.

Yoz know what? I like buying games that are worth it buy at full price and support a company that locks BENEFITS and not ESSENTIALS behind paywalls. I also like the tjought of keeping said company and workplaces alive with it, even if that's not always the case, as Frontiers bad business practice with their employees showed.
If that makes me anti-consumer, I'll be that happily. Because I am pro-worker.

Is it a given? No. But that doesn't make this situation more of a problem than any "while supplies last" bonus.

This is a bit of a wild take.

I believe most people here on the forums and Reddit expressed their opinion how unfortunate it was for all the people who lost their jobs. It did not go unnoticed. However, we cannot expect that everyone playing Planet Zoo even knows about the layoffs. Let's be honest, most of us just play the game, and don't involve into the politics of Frontier.

What you consider "just a benefit", might be essential for someone. I don't believe you can define that about the game where animals are the main point. We don't know for sure if the animals will be available for purchase later down the line, and they have avoided answering that question like a plague until recently. I understand the practice, but just because it's common in the gaming industry, doesn't mean they shouldn't be called out on it. They worded their marketing tactic very deliberately, and considering there were a lot of questions about the animals being avalable later, they intentionally created FOMO.

I know that and that was exactly what I was refering to.
They made it available way later and charged more for it. I don't see a reality where the exact same thing won't happen with the pre-order animals. People would just have to wait longer and pay more.

Thing is we did alot of the forum was upset with the lay offs but unlike this issue it also affected the future content so the people expressing concern for the lost employees were not as apparent over the concern of people abut losing content. Not saying there isnt a level of hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance within the community and the industry as a whole there definitely is but comparing the issues isnt exactly equal. I do think the outrage is disproportionate to what is actually happening.

Also you know what annoys me is that the soundtrack isnt even the full soundtrack only the main song list none of the other tracks from dlc or tracks locked behind speaker themes are available.

At the end of the day frontier is a videogame company they are going to do what makes them the most money and what is industry standard no matter how this affects consumers or their employees and we just have to accept that since we get a good zoo game once a decade if we are lucky. I dont support frontier outside of planet zoo and I dont intend to since it is increasingly clear that frontier does not have the best business practices.

Of course it's apples and oranges, but the word "disproportionate" is key here. Only a handful of people actually called Frontier out for the lay offs and used words like "bad business practice". From most people there wasn't more than a "oh, sorry to see xy go, I wish them all the best."
There weren't pages of outrage that all these people were laid off (and treated awful in the process, Tims action on the life stream and a few twitter posts by the former employees are enough to see that).

But beware if there is a limited time frame to get pixel animals, to encourage people to pre-order...
And I don't buy the "console players could find out about the game years from now", in all honesty. No one in thsi world can convince me that real zoo game enthusiast slept on the PC version for 4 years and did NOT follow Frontier closely to eventually find out about a console release.
And I have zero doubts that everyone who isn't that invested in zoo games (so that they indeed sleep on the game for 4 years) are NOT in desperate need of a Thomzon Gazelle, a pygym hippo or a komodo dragon. 😅

And as @ElectricMonk mentioned: Frontier repeatedly said "exclusive animals for pre-order", so the question if or if not the animals will be available at a later date shouldn't even exist. It's not Frontiers fault people needed to have it spelled out what "exclusive" means.
I still think they will release those animals seperately in a year or two, it's just not a promise.

As a side note: Yes, the soundtrack missing the ingame music is annoying and lackluster.

Both things are very much bad buissness practise but as harsh as that sounds one is none of our buissness while the other is.

Ofcourse laying of so many employees to make up for managements bad decision in every way a very not good thing, but like, what are we gonna do about that?
What can we do besides wish them well?
Boycott the last dlc? Wow they got what 200 something bucks out of my pocket but not 10 more? Buhu poor frontier

No matter what we do, those people will not get their jobs back or atleast not because the players are "outraged".
Thats the buissness world, the people who get the most money do stupid things and the employees have to suffer, which is completly garbage but sadly standard.
A few dozen people being angry about it in a forum wont change that.

The predatory preorder tactic though?
Thats something a few angry people can change cause its easier to cascade into something bigger that will even turn frontier a profit to release it later, so thats allmost gurantee to actually have some effect
Is it as important?
Not even close but sometimes life is just unfair like that

What exactly do outraged PC players, who will not buy the game anyway, change for the console players by calling Frontier out on their practice?
Yep, exactly.
The reason some are louder (and use harsher words) about that than they are about the lay offs is a different level of empathy. And that's what's super yuck to me here. Pages of discussions for teh poor poor console players, shrugs for the layed off employees.

Imagine if coffee shop was opening in your neighborhood. And they say "We sell Cappuccino to those who are willing to pay for it upfront before we even open". I would be extremely annoyed to come to that shop, day or two after opening, and be denied my order because of that silly premise. It has nothing to do with morality, it's just inconvenient.

And then someone walks up to me and says: "Oh you are so annoyed about your cappuccino, but no one heard from you when those baristas got fired!"

Like, that's unfortunate, but not on the same plane. In that coffee shop I'm first and foremost a customer, and there is no "relationship" between me and the staff, they're there to provide me with a coffee and I'm there to pay for their services.

So it's not hypocritical at all that I be annoyed when they don't serve me their products, but not when some of them lose their job. Because it was never about morality in the first place, relationship is strictly transactional.

But sure, I will say, that I also don't agree with people on my side who say that "pre-order exclusive" is immoral. It's not.
