  1. Frontier’s picking the animals, so it’s not guaranteed it’s gonna be what I like/want
Yup. Everyone think of your own ideas for an ideal 8, 12 and 16 pack. The necessities that such packs would cover. Then remove a third to half of them and replace them with animals you're not that excited about making into the game. Because that's likely how it's gonna play out.

Honestly the thing I feel bad about is that Frontier gives us our most wanted animals. I feel like it’s kind of on us for making a meta wishlist, theorizing, and then getting upset at the results. Still, it’s not like I don’t have anything to say about last years packs…..

  1. Tropical should have been an animal pack, a tropical theme with no monkey or bird is so weird. The Indonesia jungle them is super cool though. The animals picked were fantastic, the issue is just I think the pack needed more. Also Frontier picked “the wrong” sloth, would have preferred two toed, but honestly not pressed about it.
  2. Arid, I don’t need to say much, but I’ll say it anyway. Every animal is modeled and animated beautifully, easily some of the best looking hoofstock in the game. Honestly I think the sandcat was great, and the cape porcupine is just perfect. Why the viper though? Beautiful animal, just the weirdest exhibit choice in the game. But yeah it’s the ungulate thing. Each animal 100% deserves to be in game. I know everyone hated on it at the time, the dama gazelle is so pretty. But yes, too many ungulates is overkill. I like them in game now, but we could have picked one to be a Baboon or Secretary Bird.
  3. The only thing with Oceania for me personally is the stream really made me think we were gonna get the lorikeet, then we got the bat. Don’t hate the bat, but the lorikeet seemed so real at the time….
  4. Eurasia was also very ungulate heavy, but we didn’t double up on one group. Also for Europeans the wisent and the boar was way too important not to include. If I had to have one complaint I would have swapped the sloth bear and the siaga antelope. Obviously I’m happy in game now that they are here, but I won’t lie and say I think they should have been something else. Also swan carries hard here.
So maybe me it isn’t that Frontier picks too wrong all that often, it’s just they give us what they want but not exactly how we would want it. Granted that can have repercussions for the game. So I might recommend we temper our expectations. Looking at the last history I think this is a likely pack to happen:

Some sort of world wide animal pack with scenery:
  1. Baboon
  2. Black Howler Monkey
  3. Blackbuck
  4. Muskox
  5. Spectacled bear
  6. Serval
  7. Secretary bird
  8. Exhibit: anything, I’m gonna guess it’s gonna be WTE. I would love to say a bird for the final dlc, but it probably won’t be. Maybe the two toed sloth.

Makes you wonder what would’ve happened if the meta wishlist just didn’t exist in the first place.
My theory: things would have been different, but not necessarily better. I’m sure we would have got the same number of birds and monkeys, but we wouldn’t have got all the other amazing animals we got. The meta wishlist was a fantastic tool for everyone to gage community interest and for frontier to make decisions about what animals to add.

I really recommend to you to check out the first ever created original 30 meta wishlist, we’ve received nearly every animal from the top of that list by now and that list was created 4 years ago.

In spite of many other wishlists created among the time the structure of animals that did not make it to the game is nearly the same. So I really feel that creating them was not that necessary because the data is nearly the same and frontier may used only the first one ever created to help with planning next DLC’s.

We almost certainly wouldn’t have gotten meerkats, despite them being the single most “zoo popular “ animal not in the base game. I’m convinced the they were not on Frontiers radar, until we called for them en masse

@nutrit nice summation of the list and what we don’t have, but while doing that let’s also point out that every single one of the top 22 from that list have made it in.

Lets be serious. Do anyone seriously believes animals like alligator or white rhino got into the game thanks to this list? Fact is most generic and well-known animal are on the top, which would made into the game anyway.

Put black dorcopsis or sumatran ground cuuckoo on the top and watch what would happen lol.
Yeah extremely popular animals like those would of made it to the game regardless, the meta wishlists aren't that powerful to dictate what animals will come to the game or not.

I think that wishlist might be some kind of helpful road map to frontier at a certain point.
But there are species that would make it to the game anyway.

I think that sloth is the best example. For 3 years we have requested Brown-Throated Three-Toed Sloth on the wishlist 🦥 and still there were people that were very surprised and unhappy with that choice. Again there were always a lot of requests for ungulates that are also quite easy to make yet still people were surprised when we got them.

Another fact, birds and monkeys were never very popular among the votes. Now everybody are taking about them but the new meta wishlists do not indicate their supposed popularity.

Well regardless if Frontier follows the meta wishlist or not, I’m gonna guess my disposition of the game would’ve always stayed the same. It also makes sense they only follow wishlists so much, the secretary bird has been at the top for awhile now. Looks like somethings never change!

Maybe one day I can get the rest of my babies in the game. (My list wouldn’t quite look like this anymore, but close enoug) though going off other meta wishlists things will never change for me…….

Maybe in some alternate universe Planet Zoo has plenty of birds and I’m obsessed with reptiles getting in the game.

Man! I remember your wishlist 🙈
I would really love to see all of your favorite birds in the game one day.

As a resident of the PZ bird insane asylum I think I can explain a bit.

If I remember right @SuzieSky tallied up animals by groups, when we do that the amount of requested birds and monkeys jumps up very high on the list. The problem is no one can organize around a single species. I love the white faced whistling duck, but 20 different people might vote for another 10 different species of duck. So while we all think ducks are highly needed, we can’t agree on what! Basically imagine people organized around the mandarin duck how we organized around the capybara. We would have gotten a duck way earlier.

Also, I think that’s down to how far into the game we are. Now that everyone got the non-birds/ monkeys and asking for everything else, they can look back and say: “Hey! How come we got no birds and monkeys!?”

Or at least that’s my two cents, I’m going back to my padded room!

Suffering builds character!

My list has definitely changed a bit, like the Peere David’s deer is on there now.

But if I could just knock even just 2 more birds off my wishlist, I would be happy. I imagine some people have never got a single animal they wanted, so me even getting around 4 is great!

You know revisiting this list really made wonder about the moose and it's highly, highly requested desire to be added in the game.

Tbh I think it's 100% purely Zoo Tycoon nostalgia.
They're not really a real life zoo staple, but MAN would it feel weird for a zoo simulator not to have them.
Depends where ya from, in europe moose are quite common + its easily the most impressive cervid, the most common type of ungulate across the northern hemispherr, an area really lacking in ungulates.
Its also just a very striking and well known animal
Not really a surprise it was that high
