Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

or will they put out a trailer and throw out the dlc a couple days after like they did for the JWE secret species pack
Probably not, even before with other JWE2 packs while there was a week gap they only showcased a couple out of the 4 creatures in the pack meanwhile with PZ every single pack has revealed every animal between announce and launch. Plus, for JWE packs we see all species on announce day, whereas for PZ we only get a couple and the rest later on. I doubt they show us a couple with announcement and the rest we have to see when it launches.

Yeah i guess Pz packs also just have more stuff to show. Correct me if im wrong but JWE do only have the 4 animals and nothing else right?

Yeah species packs have 4 new animals and expansion packs have 4 animals and a bunch of skins and variants. Species packs just have animals no scenery or new building stuff aside from the unusual rock in the lagoon or bug feeder.
Damn thats kind of a bummer. I know the JWE animals do have a little bit more to them than PZs ones but still, not really that much content really. If you compare that to the 5 animals plus 200 pieces or 8 animals packs for only 2€ more

Yeah aside from the Dominion expansions, the packs themselves don't do a lot for JWE2, they add new species and while everyone loves getting new species they're not what the game actually needs - it needs more features. The free updates usually do most of the heavy lifting here, delivering several features people were dying for; new attractions, placeable foliage, bins and benches, first person mode, etc. But overall yeah we are spoiled in PZ getting either lots of new pieces or double the animals JWE gets each pack.

The big question is would that really be worth a sequel though. At the very least, I would absolutely expect PZ2 to have both marine animals and flying animals (bats/butterflies aside) from the get go, otherwise, why bother, at least for me. Though I agree, building underwater tunnels is a pain in the behind.

There could be some improvements of course, better pathing, animal personality individuality (similar to the genetics but with how their behavior and animations cycle), game engine updates for sure...but all that comes second to what PZ is actually missing birds and marine animals, again just IMO.
For me, refining the in-game systems and implementing birds in some way could go a long way. Improved pathing, a more customizable lighting system, texture-swapping for wall sets, upgrades to animal personalities, and something like scaling alongside an upgrade to the existing exhibit mechanics to make them more customizable and some sort of aviary feature? That would be worth the price of admission to me.

I'd even be okay waiting a bit for birds if the aviary features were just hinted at upon base game release.
Will be interesting to see how the build up and release of the dlc will be. Like Will they do something similar to the previous times with 2 weeks of screenshots and stuff, or will they put out a trailer and throw out the dlc a couple days after like they did for the JWE secret species pack

Yeah, they've always handled the JWE2 drops very differently than the PZ ones. Both in terms of timing and content. What I find interesting though is that we've almost always had a livestream, the initial DLC announcement the next day, and then ~1.5-2 weeks of reveals. The last two releases have been significantly shorter between announce and release (~1 week).

As we're likely not getting a "special livestream" I do wonder if we might go back to the "early" form of teasing like they used with the Arctic and South American packs, albeit with a more modern twist (similar to how they handled the anniversary release back in November but with more animals and/or scenery to tease; and I doubt they'd be as obvious as those first two teases were LOL). Something like that leading up to the release could be just as much fun as the special livestreams and could really pump up engagement on socials...

and there being a bunch of blueprints people can start from still doesn't seem to be enough to counter that.
That's kind of obvious though. Blueprints don't really work that well for intricate builds without some way of including pathing in the blueprint. Frankly I also don't buy that the building system is criticised more than the pathing. Plus, it's not like there are many blueprint 'sets'. If you have a vision for your zoo, do you really want a medieval castle in one corner and a modern glass dome in another and a mix of stuff of various levels of detail in the middle? Consistency is key and it's hard to be consistent using blueprints since the intricacy varies between them.

IMO a lot of people would have a lot more fun with the game if they stopped trying to emulate pro-builders like SalamAnders or whoever and just kept it simple. I've made highly-detailed builds before, and although the end result was gratifying, knowing that I would have to maintain that level of detail again and again and again was a real motivation killer, so it wasn't long before I returned to the tried-and-true ideal that, "not every zoo is a big budget world-class enterprise".

That said I do not want JWE's system implemented into future planet games. At all. That would be a huge step backwards.

This week’s calendar picture on my work desk. 🧐

Last night I had another weird PZ dream, it was some kind of ocean pack. It’s just, weird. There also seemed to be no set amount of animals to the pack? I’ll just mentioned what I saw:
  1. Scalloped hammerhead
  2. Emperor penguin
  3. Storm petrol and pintail duck (these guys were in Megaquarium and can fly, my brain must have been sending me a message)
  4. Spotted eagle rays
  5. Walrus
  6. Sea otter
  7. Some kind of mass amount of fish?
  8. Under the sea insects of some kind?
Also they had something like a presentation room for the new dlc. The rest of the dream was completely unconnected from PZ, so it’s crazy how my brain got there.
