Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Do i want my iguanas in a big open top habitat? I could do that.
Free roaming in a tropical house? I could do that.
Have elevation differences in my iguana habitat? I could do that.
An isle? Easy.
Water? Of course.
No path going through it? Also possible with habitats.
A realistically small enclosure? No. With habitat iguanas, you couldn’t do that.

I would love so much this type of exhibits for a future update/dlc

I might have an idea for the next update 1.13, this is just an idea, nothing real. Here is my idea and thoughts:

-Update 1.13 and Rainforest Animal Pack-
Release date: 11 or 18 of April

-Update 1.13-
1: Exhibit upgrade: The exhibits now have new sizes (Tiny, 1x1, 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4), new forms (Cubic, Spheric, Round, etc.) and new decorations and foliage for them, as well new feeders and enrichment items for the animals.

2: Paintbrush Foliage: As in Zoo Tycoon 2, you will have the terrain brush and the foliage brush. You need to select or a biome or specific plants to work.

3: Brachiation added to: Western Chimpanzee, Bonobo and Bornean Orangutan

4: Various bug fixes and major quality of life

-Dlc: Rainforests Animal Pack-

It's time to venture into the lushest rainforests around the world, discover what animals await you with the Planet zoo: Rainforest Animal Pack!

What houses this vast ecosystem, you ask? A variety of animals that inhabit the rainforests of Asia, South America, Oceania and Africa.

Say hello to the red river hog, with his extraordinary sense of smell; the Geoffroy's spider monkey, with his incredible agility; the mighty sumatran rhinoceros, the smallest of the rhinos; the agile and elusive Ocelot; the curious Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo; the strange fossa; and the elusive Indian muntjac. These come with new and unique behaviors, like the perimeter sniffing of the red river hog, or the agile brachiation movements of the spider monkeys. We are sure that both you and your guests will enjoy these new species!

Your visitors will now be able to enjoy a wonderful species of snake: the emerald tree boa!

I'm speaking for myself when I say that, yeah, assuming that the terrariums are too big, habitats would be worse, too be honest. They'd be triple in size, at least, for proper in-game locomotion and comfort. Not to mention that the iguanas would have hitboxes that seem off, so the habitat would be real clunky to make and navigate.
Plus, seeing as to how the other reptiles in-game are, would you really want an iguana that moves around constantly in its enclosure? I can deal with the crocs because I've seen them move around in zoos (not as much as their Planet Zoo cousins), but I've never ever seen an iguana in captivity move, only in the wild, and that was when they were being chased.

That's why having them as WE animals is a compromise, because they would still be considered exhibit animals, they'd be walkthrough, and you can still pretend that they're habitat animals as well

Not bad, but I'd do a generic Woodlands pack instead:

Woodlands Animal pack

Say hayo to 12 amazing species to come to Planet Zoo. We have the red river hog, with its beautiful rusty coloration; the Tasmanian devil, which has a vast appetite; the strange fossa, a catlike animal from Madagascar; the wild boar, a big and strong hog; the spectacled bear, a lovely species from the Andes; the Goodfellow's tree kangaroo, a real good fellow; the black howler monkey, a ver vocal species, and 5 species of parrot for your walkthrough enclosures: the scarlet macaw, hyacinth macaw, military macaw, blue-and-yellow macaw, and the sulfur-crested cockatoo.

Also coming in this pack is a new career map. Head to the island of Tasmania to help a budding zookeeper to bring their zoo on the map. You'll need to help build up a Tasmanian devil conservation program for them, as well as entertain the needs of other species that you will take in.

Update 1.13

Animals
  • Updated Malayan tapir model, to more accurately represent the species
  • Added brachiation to Bornean orangutan, bonobo, and western chimpanzee
  • Chorus behavior for West African lion and black howler monkey

    • 4×2×4
    • 8×4×4
  • Terrain and biome inside exhibits cam now be changed for species with multiple biome tags

Yeah id rather have an animal that exists as part of the games actual gameplay then one that doesnt.
Planet Zoo is a videogame, an abstraction of reality is the closest it ever gets and no animal acts like a real one and really i dont care.
Aslong as it serves the gameplay, i dont mind any abstractions needed and an iguana thats actually part of the gameplay loop as an unique existance instead of being literally equal to a bug that uses the tropical exhibit in its gameplay adaptation, id go with the actual fleshed out animal that moves more then in real life and deal with the games suppar hitboxes then just not have the animal at all.
But lets end this, we are derailing the chat and wont find common ground anyways.
Exhibits add nothing for me to the game and infact have negative value as they keep captive the iguanas and took up development time, which to me is wasted potential.
Im honestly happy for everybody who genuinly likes them, eventhough i cant see any good in them outside of the concept being neat, to bad the execution isnt

Well, it doesn't really matter what we want or think will happen anyway, because, as I've said before, I sincerely doubt that Frontier will change the iguanas to anything else.

Anyways, for the Spring 2023, I'm suspecting that we may get a scenery Islands pack, don't ask me why. And that is the exact reason we won't get one, because my predictions are always the opposite of what'll happen

I'm gonna ask a different question, for everyone.

It seems everyone wants all packs except the farm/petting zoo pack to be animal packs.

But, we still need 2 scenery packs this year. So, which pack concepts would you choose to be scenery packs?
[]Daylight Pack[]
  • Grey Crown Crane
  • Mute Swan
  • Blackbuck
  • South American Coati
  • Five More Butterflies!!
Build Options:
Lots and lots of plants... like maybe not even actual buildings or props, just 200+ more plants! If there were buildings, I'd say it have to be something eco-friendly... like greenhouse stuff or solar panels for roofs.

[]Mountain Pack[]
  • Markhor
  • I wanna say Wolverine, but I'm not sure I'd put Wolverine in a mountain-themed pack.
  • Erm... I dunno...
  • There are plenty of options, but Markhor is the only Mountain animal I can say for sure needs to be added.
  • And let's not even start with the exhibit animal option...
Build Options:
Mainly an actual Gondola Ride; the cable suspended thing most of us think of when we say Gondola ride (honestly, this is the whole reason I say a mountain pack needs to be a scenery pack). Beyond that, either the (fairly cliché) Tibetan temple architecture that I've seen in a few zoos, or maybe something based on a ski lodge or resort, with log cabins and fire places and such (I'd prefer the latter myself; more versatile, less theme park-y).

On a side note:
I'm reiterating my stance on an Islands scenery pack; I'd hate it. There's too many islands with too many biomes to limit the choices to just four tropical animals and a cliché tropical paradise build set... you may as well just call it the Tropical Pack.

These are some good ideas and choices, but I cannot imagine that they would do a rainforest pack and not include a sloth. it is high on my own want list but I don't think I'm biased towards that personally when I say it's probably the most recognized type of mammal that we do not have a "type" of in the game.

Well i also cant do that wiith the exhibits, so not like its a win for them.
Short reminder, same volume as cargo crates

True, but 16m^2 isn’t too far off realistic for iguanas (compared to other exhibit animals). If they were habitat animals, though their requirement would almost certainly be absurd , as with dwarf caiman, monitors and platypus, except even worse… 16m^2 is better than > 80m^2

In regards to Islands, I'd rather it be an animal pack because I'm an animal person first and foremost and I don't really need a Polynesian or Caribbean building set. However, I am expecting it to be a scenery pack, and I'd still be super happy with it as long as it comes with the Tasmanian devil, fossa and at least one of the other two popular Oceania picks (tree kangaroo and kiwi). A scenery pack would also give more opportunity for some cool foliage - I'm especially keen for more plants from Tasmania (blue gum, buttongrass, pandani, southern beech...) and New Zealand (kauri, cabbage tree, rimu, pohutukawa...).

Well I can understand your opinion, cuz based on the recent packs we could still get some foliage no matter what pack it is. But I'd rather see a more diversity in plant life so I'm slightly leaning to scenery pack.
