Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Just for the fun of it, what would you put in a 3 species mini-pack for these regions?

Or any other secluded region that has lots of interesting and endemic species.
Well lets start one of for new zealand:
1. New Zealand Shoveler:
Normaly if something is from new zealand its rarer in international collections, but while the australian shoveler isnt found internationally, the newzealand shoveler has a stable breeding population in europe, slowly spreading to more zoos, rn being in 13 european zoos, being alot for that little isle.
For them on their own, they are an oceanian duck with a funny beak, which is not the most breathtaking, but regarding the fact we have no duck or any waterfowl in the game they are more then welcome, especally as they would standout compared to other ducks visually thanks to their beaks.

2. Kunekune Pig
Small spotted fuzzy pigs that have once been critically endangerd with only 50 individuals remaining, they are among the more unnoticed conservation storys we have zoos to thank for. By now they are quite common in the petting zoos around the world, being found in 84 European Zoos, by far most of them in the UK where they were bred back from the face of extinction.

3. Paradise Shelduck
Its a pretty goose from the new zealand south island marshes with 25 European holdings.
They are one of thew species that actually profited from the humans arrival on new zealand as they prefer the opean meadows that were cut into places once filled with mighty woodlands, making them able to expand from the southern island and colonising all of new zealand.
An interesting quirk about them is that they are quite tolerant towards ducks and other smaller waterbirds but highly territiorial and agressive towards waterfowl of the same size and larger like other geese and swans, giving them some behavorial uniqueness aswell. They also are quite aestheticly pleasing with their black and white gender dimporhism.

4. Kea (WE)
Yeah no new zealand pack without its by far most common animal. With 69 European holdings is the Kea by far the most common non domestic animal from new zealand by a long shot. They are also really cool as they represent the colder mountainous regions and would bring the game not only its first parrots but also some of the most unique as they also feast on carrion when they get their hand on it. They are also known to be especally miscivious and to vandalise cars, making quite a name for themself by pick pocketing tourists and blackmailing them for food. Little rascals.

5. Northern Island Brown Kiwi
Well well, i might not want them persey as they are as unflexible as an animal can be, truly rivaling the panda on that one, they certanly are popular and a new zealand pack without them would be quite the whacko suggestion.
U guys know why you want them, infact you propaply do it better then me so here have a picture

So yeah, 5 endemic animals, 4 birds, world peace and i just once again noticed how much i long for ducks and geese. Frontier pls, give us some waterfowl

Nice but also note there was a 3 species limit as I was offering a "mini-pack" format.

I was gonna say that shoveler looks exactly like the wild ones here in Scotland but I guess it's unique in its own way

Honestly for new zealand thats major boring cause Kiwi, Kunekune, Kea/Tuatara. In general i dont vibe with mini packs that much as theres allways atleast 4 things worth adding
I was more going for a mini-pack format that could hopefully go between normal packs, but yeah I agree there's always at least 4 worth additions.

Loved the NZ roster suggestion tho, can't waut to see the other less obvious ones.

I do think the dlc would be something that related to easter (that's a least what I think) what Animal probably would be the Headliner? Probably any Rabbit!
what would be the animal from the 10 top of the Meta Wishlist? I think it can be one of those African Crested Porcupine/Linnaeus's two-toed sloth/South American Coati!

the fact that this might be our last support year, it just make me feel that something that will have Easter vibe Pack will come in the spring, of course it can be something like really Islands Pack or Rainforest Animal Pack or Mountains Animal Pack, but just because Twilight Pack I feel like we will get something that will have some Easter vibe and also Children's Zoo vibe. I hope if we will get something like that I hope frontier will give us a least two of the 10 top, and this time they will give us something that the community will LOVE.
I'd want an Easter-themed pack exclusively for the possibility of getting a bilby - it's basically the only pack idea where they have a good chance of being considered.

3 days of arguing whether the red river hog is a valued inclusion to the game or not
Don't you love it?
Long story short, there are 3 species of suine considered still necessary to the game: Red river hog, wild boar, and a peccary.

There was a very heated discussion a few days ago, with some considering the RRH absolutely essential to the game, some wanting it but preferring the other 2 suines, and some not wanting it at all.
Yeah, and unfortunately I got caught up in it, although I hope that I didn't add any lumber to the flames. If I did, then I want to apologize as it was completely unintentional

Sumatra mini pack
•Sumatran Tiger
•Great Argus Pheasant
•Painted Terrapin

New Guinea mini pack
• Victoria Crowned Pigeon
• Crocodile Monitor
• Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo

Not quite a mini-pack, but I still feel strongly that an island pack needs to be an animal pack.

I think it's settled that fossa, kiwi, t-kangaroo, and t-devil are must haves. For the remaining three I humbly suggest -

Gentoo or rockhopper penguin. If we're going to get a reskin, let's make it a bird and one which is fairly popular.

Some kind of waterfowl. A Nene, a steamer duck, a pretty Shelduck from NZ. We want geese and ducks! Frontier, please heed our desperate quacks.

Japanese Serrow. Somewhat common ungulate that gives both cold climate representation and ZT2 nostalgia feels. It would also add a largish animal to the pack and I feel like that's important after people's reactions to the Twilight small animal roster (which I thought was fantastic, but I am clearly not the majority).

Close runner-ups are the Luzon giant cloud rat, Javan langer, and Celebes crested macaque.

For the exhibit animal either the kea or some assortment of doves and/or lorikeets.

Next one, North Eastern Asia. There are quite a few nice animals from this region ive never saw being brought up before.

1. Baikal Teal
Its another very pretty duck, this time named after lake baikal, eventhough their range spans far and wide, which besides their pretty looks is my main reason for wanting them in particular.
They are everything you could want in a northern duck, being found in northern temperate china, korea and japan in their non breeding season (darkblue), while breeding in the western asian tundra with male baechlour groups even found at the shores of the icy sea. They also are quite common with 70 EAZA holdings so all in all they are all you can ask for in a duck, beautiful, covering underrepresented areas and biomes and just being all around great.

1676503974280.png

2. Siberian Weasel
Next up we got the Siberian Fire Weasel, named because of its bright red orange fur.
Just like with the duck, the weasels main selling point besides its striking looks are its massive range, spanning all of china, taiwan, southkorea, mongolia and russia, with an introduced population in japan aswell.
They would add a small visually unique and striking energetic predator to this area which both the game but also especally these regions are quite lacking in.
Their current number of 117 EAZA holders they might be quite moddest, but their population in zoos is on a strong rise due to their pretty colors, cute factor and ease of holding.

1676505392884.png
3.

3. Siberian Musk Deer
While not as Unknown as my other picks, they would fit perfectly into the game.
We need some smaller ungulates and a fanged deer from north western asia would fill that niche greatly.
They actually are quite rare in Zoos but have a small resurrgeance in Europe thanks to the zoo leipzigs great breed success, so while they only have 6 EAZA holdings, the fact that 2 of them are from the last two years give me hope that they will spread slowly but surly.

1676505931093.png

4. Stellars Sea Eagle (WE?)
From the coasts, Stellars Sea Eagle joins the pack. Is it a bit iffy for the WE? Yes, but i want to mention them so here we go!
The heaviest eagle in the world that would be one of the more unique addition to any arctic area would be my preffered choice for a (secondary) eagle for the game once larger flying birds hits as they are among the most distinctive with their dark and white pluemage, sheer size , being coast dwelling and very common in zoos with 108 EAZA holdings.
They would also add another tundra animal and another striking animal to the amur region, being 2 extra boni.
1676507885472.png
1676507899074.png

5. Racoon Dog
Lastly a north eastern asia pack wouldnt be complete without a racoon dog. They might be the most popular and iconic animal remaining from that area.
It would add quite a lot to china korea and japanese themed areas, as its one of the most east asian coded animals in pop culture.
There 178 EAZA holdings are also quite juicy.
1676512233952.png
1676512242228.png

And thats it! I think that these would be some cool animals to better flesh out east asian themed areas that could greatly support allready existing animals like the japanese macaque, red crowned crane, amur leopard and tiger and the prez wildhorse and bactrian camel.
This pack would most notably strenghten japanese, chinese and korean collections, which would propaply make it an actual good selling pack, especally if it would give the basegame east asia scenery theme a nice boost.
Also of note is that i activly avoided animals most known from the amur river valley, as this place alone would make a great mini pack.
