Spring dlc Speculation 2023

Do we think it's possible that just maybe, they will add the two toed sloth into the free update for base game? Don't they have the walkthrough exhibit in base game but no animals??

Is weird to me than they went for just the brown throated sloth and not both. After all they gave us multiple butterfly species...
Both sloths dont belong to different families without a reason. There are morphological differences. For example three-toed sloth have longer neck, which is able to swivel up to 270 degrees in either direction. Another one is kinda different way of moving, because it has disproportionate leg to arm ratio. Lastly its fingers can't move independently IRCC.
@biggest_dreamer is correct. It would need different animations to correctly behave.
These differences simply kill potential of getting two-toed sloth as simple reskin. Also mods are going to not look great thanks to neck alone.

Mixed feelings on this one. Really wish this one had been an Animal Pack--nothing is jumping out to me regarding scenery after watching the trailer, and I feel like there's a lot of ground covered in the "tropical" theme by previous scenery packs. Fossa and red river hog are both great picks for me, but I'm a little disappointed that South/Central America only gets a single animal in this, and an exhibit animal at that. I'm not upset that the sloth's in a walkthrough exhibit--I think that works fine for them--but I do wish either the gibbon or the water monitor got subbed out for a similar animal from South America (ie; golden lion tamarin, a howler monkey, orinoco crocodile, etc). Just seems like a bit of a waste to have a tropical pack without a new world primate especially.

Is the pig Buddha culturally insensitive?

I didn't see it as a pig Buddha but rather as a stylized representation of Varaha, a boar incarnation of Vishnu, one of the chief gods in Hinduism. Granted I'm an Indian Hindu, not Buddhist or SE Asian, but a lot of Balinese/Indonesian architecture draws from Hindu legend. Bali, I think, is still Hindu too.

It doesn't seem like a Buddha to me, and doesn't even seem like a terrible cultural misfit like the Egyptian meerkat statues. It would fit in well in many Indian/SE Asian locations.

How dead is south america? This continent is literally half rainforest half grassland. At this point only way to get something is multi-continental species from north america like peccary or some sort of miracle pack.
South America has always been overlooked in zoo games. Smaller fauna in general, and even though it's more diverse, most zoos present SA Animals in big multi-species greenhouses that are yet to be translated efficiently into PZ.

Still we are missing common zoo animals from SA like primates, rhea, ocelot, peccary and patagonian Mara.

I completely agree. South America and Europe are crucially lacking species. Again, I think it's quite hard to give out species from all regions of the world. Frontier chose themed/regional packs and when they were doing "continental" packs, with so few species in each DLC, there's no way we could get a more comprehensive rooster for each continent.

True, but their choices some time baffle me. Why a lar gibbon instead of a SA primate? Why an asian water monitor at all? Why no birds in a tropical pack?

I love everything about this pack. The only thing I hope is the sloths could have babies coz they are the cutest. I am super happy they have chosen the most recognizable sloth species.
I didn't think about that. That'll be such a shame and very weird if they dont. I wish it would have been realistic to have them as habitat animals. So much creativity is stripped away with WEs in my opinion. Sloths to my knowledge are fairly solitairy. So having a massive enclosure for just two and there one baby will be obnoxious. The fact that you can't make your own climbing frames and that the path has to be straight be very annoying. Especially when building rainforest buildings. Hopefully they can traverse their enclosures with less loops since they don't fly. Uhhhhhhhhh The Sloth is my only major let down with this pack other than the fact that it's a scenery pack. Everything else is great

I'm disappointed at two near-clones in a 4-pack. I do like the fossa and hog, but not the other two. The sloth I will need to wait and see how it's executed. But when on earth are we going to get monkeys and birds, even just ground birds? 😕

Agree 100%. No sloths should suffer so much human presence in their vicinity. They're solitary, they sleep a lot. It reminds me of how unrealistic are the koala's behaviour in game.

Species preference aside, I still maintain that the WE is the way to go for sloths, because don't forget - you can always use null walls to make them into a faux-habitat while ignoring the walkthrough component altogether, especially now that we have null paths meaning you no longer have to work to hide the path component. That's what I've done with bats, and I'm fairly pleased with how they come out. My one gripe is how tall and long the WEs are stuck being... I really wish they were a bit more customizeable.

From the start i never understood why we had 1x1 non-walktrough exhibits only (like why not a 1x2, a 2x3 ?) Same goes for the Walkthrough exhibits, would be great to have 3 or 4 differents sizes and i don't think it would make animation way more difficult.

I know this is a very hot take. But I would have preferred them as habitat animals, and just live with there behavior inaccuraciesand have more creativity, cause this just opens another whole world of problems. But Frontier had their reasons. I wish we could hear them, but I doubt they'll talk about it.
