Looking at what's working in SC without taking into account of the bug, it's development hell and CIG's borderline illegal behavior. The game feels soul less (stealing the description from a review of Anthem), the assets looks good but there's is no coherency.

In a way, incohereancy appeals to me, real world designs don't often follow the same form and share common styles. SC isn't that variety, it's a mismatched and adhoc bunch of ideas put together without thoughts to function and common restrictions. This applies to both assets and game mechanics. The forklift in the Citizen Tech Talk video LanceLord linked is another example. The video mentioned the forklift can't fit through the hangar doors at 31:25. If its true, it shows how little thoughts went into incorporating each assets.

The latest new mechanics I saw was the falling down the stairs thing. Funny how it was never mentioned in developement until Death Stranding came along. This falling down the stairs is out of place because I haven't seen videos of characters slipping or fall off the ladder when trying to climb into cockpits, it's an inconsistency and it stands out as a gimick.

Advertised as a space sim while its main focus seems to be ground and individual combat, but looks more and more like a walking simulator to me, loading boxes and cocktail mechanics. It's a confused mess of random ideas that aren't applied game wide but individually in its own narrow application.

I had just assumed the falling down stairs was a bug!

Can someone confirm this idiotic mechanic is intentional?

Someone on SA just posted one of CR's brain dumps

Major NPCs will be unique. And if they are in a place where they can be killed, they will be killed only once. Think of it as a very hard to win achievement that one player or group of players in the game will ever achieve. If you manage to kill the “Dread Pirate Roberts”, that will be part of your legend, similar to discovering a new jump point or star system. Upon the death of a “boss” NPC, we won’t re-spawn him or her, but there will be someone that steps in to fill the void, so the same area of space may now be terrorized by “The Black Skull”. Major NPC “bosses” will be a unique scalp for a player good enough to beat them. But almost all bosses will have someone waiting in the wings.

It doesn't take more than a second to see how this will play out:

Player Achievements:
Killed Dread Pirate Roberts
Killed Dread Pirate Jones
Killed Dread Pirate Bloggs
Killed Dread Pirate Kardassian
Killed Dread Pirate Luke Skywalker
Killed Dread Pirate Coo<<<ERROR STACK OVERFLOW>>+++A43FXjdsfsdffs
Killed Dread Pirate In the last 500 years, the Fourth Stimpire has dominated four systems

Sounds like tender blossomings of personal narrative to me.

Would be ok in a single player game but in an MMO it is just asking for trouble. People are going to camp any and all NPCs that can be killed just to troll other people. What are they going to do when they run out?

Why put all that work into major NPCs, their followers and missions assigned to them only to remove it all them from the game.

Come on, such dribble isn't really taken serious. The whole persistency thing has been blown larger than a balloon that can fit a truckload of elephants. Of course it's not feasible, because the WOULD run out. Fast.

Well, just got a 48-hour ban from Spectrum, so I'll not be posting there any more, or answering PMs from anyone there.

Did you poke em again or did you receive that while your previous 24 hour ban was in effect?

But yeah, the main reason why I reduce my SC discussions to this forum and YT mostly. YT doesnt give a rats behind and this forum applies its rules in a fair manner because SC is just a side topic here. Reddit simply is too wild west for me and Spectrum (not a backer anyway but even if I were) is very one-sided with its moderation.

This forum allows pretty negative posts about Fdevs OWN games without consequences, as long as you don't attack other people or use a lots of foul language....Tells something good about moderations fairness and honesty.

It's an alien week special! Banu Merchantman only $350! Limited time offer!***

* Can't play game with this purchase. You need a starter package.
* This ship isn't in game yet
* This ship first went on sale in 2013

Spoiled at the end by a touch of the 'my-game-is-better-than-your-game' nonsense. I rep most of your posts...don't spoil it ;)
I meant "ED is a one time purchase and you get the whole game", not that it was better or worse than other games. ED isn't for everyone and many people get bored. :)

And for the Banu Merchantman I need to add one more asterisk:

* There are no aliens in the game yet.

  • Eddie Parr mission giver removed from the roadmap
  • Docking removed from the roadmap
Hang on - wasn't Dear Eddie the core bartender that all other subsumpted AI depends upon for their fundamental functionality?

And............

Elevator Panel Updates
The feature’s scope has increased in complexity since we initially planned this as an Alpha 3.10 goal and we will need more time to make the necessary UI code changes. We’ve moved this card to the Alpha 3.11 column.

Just how complex can you make an elevator panel?
