AI versus NPC
I could be wrong but NPCs are already controlled by AI. Both require a certain amount of ingame investment (purchase versus wage) and I assume CiG will offer multiple levels of capability, they are kinda big in the
tier department. Why do you folks think CIG implements a blade AI system on top of a suggested and promised system that would cover the area without having delivered on the NPC front yet?
- Blade as a (maybe) working subsitute for the NPC mess which will probably never be able to do all the things CiG promised?
- an additional money sieve allowing whales to justify throwing money at them?
Doesn't have to be that. But online games tend to bring out the worst in some people. Especially those with competitive elements or adversarial gameplay.
The issue is like so often far simpler. Doesnt require online games but of course these type of games provide the environment in which these probems become most appearant.
Its simply a difference in opinion or view. Its about the same as an after-match bar scenario where both team fans go to....you know how THATS gonna end. Every possible topic where one is "into" it and the other "not so much" has the potential to blow up within seconds due to the same mechanics we already discussed plenty of times.
- entitlement
- dunning kruger
- feeling threatened
Existential competition or threat usually allows people to "do whatever is necessary to survive". And while most people learn to disregard such things or threats over a video game, many people dont. Plus of course, you always have the trouble makers who enjoy inflicting misery, or people who just need to vent after a stressful day. Lots of reasons or triggers online but the basic problem always is the
inability to tolerate or coexist with different opinions
The Star Citizen community is no different in that regard. Its splintered, fractured and more than willing to rip itself to shreds over the most mundane things. When some people tout the SC community as "the greatest community on earth" or similar chances are they just dipped into an echo-chamber or met people with similar interests.
Miner1: lets go mine some asteroids
Miner1 meets Miner2
Miner1: hey dude, I want to make a fortune, want to team up and have some fun?
Miner2: sure man, lemme come over ^^
- after several hours of mining together both seperate with a "this was awesome" feeling
Miner1: lets go mine some asteroids
Miner1 meets Sovapid shortly after launching from the pad
Miner1: hey dude, I want to make a fortune, want to team up and have some fun?
Sovapid: (silence) (blows up Miner1)
- what do you think Miner1 will rate this play session in terms of enjoyment?
Miner1: lets go mine some asteroids
Soon after starting doing his thing Miner1 overhears two people nearby discussing activities in the game
Minmaxer: I just need one more module to max out my build, maybe I ll make it before the next 30k. I guess I ll go mine some stuff, ACH mining has to be the most boring, worst thing EVER, it kills me
PvPer: I dont know man, I like miners, they are juicy, always loaded and the biggest crybabies whenever I blow them up without them being able to defend themselves
- this doesnt have to blow up depending on Miner1s decisions but all the same he wont go somewhere and state "best community" afterwards
As mentioned in the past, the internets
assumed anonymity helps to lower the threshold for many people in regards to hostility or profanity. Most adults I know will restrain themselves from using profanity in the company of children and even if it happens its an established social taboo meaning others will notify you that your behavior is wrong or not funny. When you meet somebody online you wont know his or her gender or age so you already miss an obvious limiter you would have when talking to said person in real life. Internet anonymity, designed as a "protective layer" for the user offers equal opportunities for less than honest individuals.
In real life, I try to identify the fanatics, the crazies, the bullies or threats and stay clear as much as I can. I will become involved if I am being threated personally or observe other people being threatened. Two people having an argument nearby doesnt warrant involvement even if I have the answer. Its simply not my job or right to interfere. A shouting match with flying fists tho will draw attention and even if bystanders dont try to break it up you can be sure the police will get involved quickly.
People talking, fanatics, crazies, bullies, police....all of these are represented in an online forum as well....of course I mean THIS ONE.
Each of us identifies such personalities by different standards and also has different reactions. Personally I ve given up on those individuals by now....talking to them is a pure waste of time and nerves. And I find the ignore functionality very useful in dealing with the problem. Sure....I only ever see people replying to those individuals anymore but based on the replies I m pretty sure I m not missing anything. Same old apologetics, same old goalpost moving, same old deflection or distraction and loads and loads of whataboutism without being able to accept logic or reality.
