Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Today's video - Star Citizen PVP - Woo!

Fire extinguishers and chairs have confirmed player kills!

One MMO I played, elevators had the highest kill count. I think it was one of Daybreak titles but I could be wrong. Still something for SC to aspire to and they definitely have the talent there to pull it off :)

So, apparently CIG are putting together a Vehicle Experience Team to look at how vehicles, including spaceships, should work...... 8 fracking years after they started development. 6 years after their initial estimate for the release of the game! You can't make this stuff up!

The Vehicle Experience Team has been a thing for about 6 months, maybe a little more. And it does give me some hope.

Yogi, one of the devs, is very active getting feedback and somewhat responsive. He also used to work on Elite.

The ToW discussion was terrible. Sean and Richard didn't give any timeline or indication of when backers will see the next version. This is after telling the press it would release in early 2020.

Look it was all very positive. The first test being so bad meant they’ve made some great improvements. Comparatively.

Also the telemetry identified the fire extinguisher kills. What more do you want?!

Different solar systems are connected to each other - apparently.

Stanton is lawful. Terra is safe. Pyro you should expect to be blown up in - although neither exist.

100% safety anywhere cannot be guaranteed. Stanton is so lawful it has lawless areas. PVP slider will not be player-facing, but will instead be a backend of "player choice". Pew-pew will lead to higher rewards for killing pew-pews, and they will apparently leave behind salvageable goodies - but global inventory will not apparently apply?

If you are norty in Green Zones then turrets and security AI will be out to get you! PVP slider is again - not something selectable playerwise.

...
So if I understand correctly PVP slider is players choice about where he is? Brilliant, just like in ED at open mode where you rarely get ganked by short range weapons when you are in stations no fire zone :D

Physical inventory and food / heat / burden gumpf. Lots of imaginary handwavium. They are basically going for Halo weapons / Skyrim backpack. Meta builds will be drawn up in two seconds.

Current mining "wheel" wil be replaced with the "grid" it was always intended to be. Mole - can you help us out here on that one?

Item persistence and icache are currently not online. Something was so spoilery (our outright bad) it had to get muted.

Theaters of War is supposedly magically including AI ships and physics refactors. They had no idea how poor performance could get in a limited test group, the overhead of matchmaking, party joining and squads was a bit too much - but the good news is that all the fixes apply to the PU - so full 50 player PVP in the PU is totally possible!

Their servers have some concurreny scaling issues. Arena Commander and Star Marine matchmakers are not fit for purpose???

The next version of Theaters of War will be more like Star Citizen.
I would if I even knew what they were havering on about...It's been so long since I've been able to actually launch SC I've almost forgotten it even exists

Besides that...all those talking head videos describing something way other than Star Citizen at some hazy, non existent point in the far distant future are more irritating than informative...it's a broken mess devoid of almost any of that dreamcrafting content it's like they're describing something truly imaginary...which they are of course. Some things never change :)

PvP is always a great topic for distracting from anything tho, including the deafening silence on SQ42. So well done CIG!

Wait! They actually mentioned the PvP slider???

EDIT: Double wait, they actually mean its all down to location??? So not a slider, but just about how lawful the system this? Priceless!

So is this game good yet? I keep checking in from time to time, hoping.... [where's that crossed fingers emoji?]
It has not improved a huge amount in the last year or so, but has some new features and locations. I play on and off mainly with an organisation. If I am playing and the game crashes, I give up for the day. I would say that about 50% of the time I log in I can play for 3 hours plus without a crash. Be aware that others have more crashes and I am not sure why. I have an SSD and 16GB RAM and my crashes seem to be on the server side as everyone else has them at the same time. (sometimes you all know it is coming). If you want to give it a go you can have many hours of fun, no need to spend anymore than $45 on an Aurora as you can use or crew up other ships belonging to others in your org. It seems to be a random gamble on how stable your experience is and maybe if you are very easily frustrated it is not for you. I never play in the racing or combat modules. You can not play Squadron 42, just in their MMO Persistent Universe (PU). My main gripe is the long travel times, both on foot and in space flight, that ruins it for me. It can take 10 mins from getting into the game to getting into your ship. In space if you are going nearby it is not too bad, but if you travel to the other side of the System it takes 15 mins. Also it can take 10 mins to fly down from space to your destination on the planet. I still play at least once a month so it must have something. If you can ignore the politics around the development time and the arguments over CIG's morals there is something rewarding in it.
