Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Still doesn't understand why you tie implication with money put in a project... If CIG needed money, I would understand and I would have probably given them money, but it is not the case. Whether I give them 500€ would not change anything for CIG.

CIG is a game's company, not a foundation that fights against cystic fibrosis. They don't need my money to continue the project. I prefer donating money to vaincrelamuco.org.

I think you are mainly disappointed not being able to call me a whale...
They DO need whale money though, even if sensibly it's not you providing it.

I've said it before, the millions they make which artificially prolong the project and allow them to not release a product while paying themselves handsomely ... it doesn't come from $45 starter packs.

This isn’t comparative with 3.16, but as someone who browses SC bugs daily, I was genuinely astounded by the sheer volume of bugs in the Jackfrags playthrough. Just the frequency & variety across the 4hrs.

The profound loot box & networking issues were nothing shocking, as newer additions. But the vehicle strafing? Never seen that before. The retro box-stuck-to-hand showing its face? The sheer volume of bugs en masse, from Remag’s missing head meaning he couldn’t see nameplates, to crime stats not registering, to desynched physics injuries, to invisible turret fire. From minor to major, they were just ever-present. Always impinging.

I guess on the positive side there was no 30K though... (That happened later off camera ;))

But it was just… bad. Genuinely, surprisingly bad…

I recently started a new playthrough of X4 (Terran start, first time), and it's been crazy fun and addictive. Not only have I been enjoying the story line, but the way the galaxy is "unfolding" this time has been really challenging and intriguing and keeping me glued to this game. I have to admit, my current thought is, "Do I want to waste time downloading, installing, configuring, and experimenting with Star Citizen right now when all I want to do is play X4?"

Maybe NEXT Free Fly will be the one...

It's also nice being able to play a space game that doesn't break when my Internet has a hiccup ;)
Offtopic question, please don't shoot me mods - I cant get my head round the controls. Are you using kb+m or sticks?

If you are talking X4 there, there's a whole thread devoted to it. Though it's a vastly more boring one than this silly place, for sure.

Oh I know, but I can't be bothered going and reading it.

I look forward to hearing how the very tolerant and patient @Old Duck enjoys the jank of Star Citizen 😃

Oo the new undynamic happening does exist:

So many questions...

Why did someone think an ATV was a good idea? Why are the NPCs so bad at shooting? Why did the shuttle's pushy destination buttons make them all so happy?

Why did it 30K?

Pick any one of the above I guess ;)
The npc arent bad at shooting. They just stand around to get killed whenever I see something like that.

Strangely enough...even I agree with you :D

One of the important things I noticed in that thread, many existing players were pushing out excuses for the bugs and saying it wasn't that bad, they had experienced worse, which was probably true, but there were a few who had purchased the game many years ago and after waiting for it to release were trying it out for the first time based on existing long time players saying it was fun....and they were...to put it mildly...unimpressed, and that's a problem, things like this;

I love reading all the newcomer rants. Had a friend bring along a newbie friend last week and he kept shouting about it being a waste of money. Been playing for about 3 years and 3.17 is imo the most fun and stable I've had it the entire time lol.

He thinks it funny that newcomers think it's waste of money because they were expecting an actual game;

I was one of the first backers of this game (10/24/2012) and wanted to wait for its full release to try it.

Needless to say: 10 years, 2 dogs, 2 houses, 3 job changes, a wife and a now 2 year old kid later I got a little impatient and wanted to try the game because a few people said all the people ting on Star Citizen were stupid and the game is actually good.

Downloaded and installed it and the only thing I've been able to do is fall through the floors in to space. Elevator door opens? Door leads to space, walk through, fall in to space, die and get stuck in the hospital bed and have to completely restart the game. Run into a wall in my habitat? Clip through the floor and die and get stuck in the hospital bed and have to completely restart the game. finally board my ship, get into Quantum Drive stand up from my seat clip through the floor, die in space and get stuck in the hospital bed and have to completely restart the game. Ship get impounded while you're still on it? Get respawned at the commercial airline gate, get stuck for a bit before falling through the floor, die in space and get stuck in the hospital bed and have to completely restart the game.

The game is unplayable. what has been going on for 10 years?

The problem is existing long time players push the illusion that SC is a playable game, I mean we have had it in this thread a lot, and new players come in thinking it's going to be like NMS or ED, only with limited game play options seeing as it is unfinished, not buggy mess that can be virtually unplayable at times. They take unfinished to mean, "well there's only 1 system at the moment but more to come," not, "killed by elevator, killed by door, server crash, fall through floor," etc.

As long as existing players push it as a fun and playable game there's a problem, because for a lot of players coming in and expecting a NMS or ED experience they are going to leave and ever come back and the reputation of the game drops. It's been argued that a lot of CIG's money comes from new players, not sure I agree with that but of course I don't have access to the accounts so can't say one way or the other, but if the reputation of CIG and the game keep getting trashed then that will eventually dry up as a source of revenue.

Today’s new player has a potential to become tomorrow’s new whale. The only way CIG can continue to exist is if enough of the faithful continue to evangelize its “greatness” while keeping quiet about its many long term flaws.

CIG’s reputation is already trash, and has been for over half a decade. It doesn’t really matter. So long as the game looks pretty and fairly functional, and is pushed by fans & CIG alike as 'playable now', it’s going to keep attracting curious noobs. That’s the magic of 'live alpha development'. It simply must have got better since the last time it was trashed ;)
