Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Having that many tracked and physics based objects is just so, so stupid. They need to triple the tick rate of the servers at minimum to handle that kind of complex interactivity and severely limit object interaction when multiple players are in their vicinity.
I feel sure that will be part of the design.

Once they get to the initial planning stage.

As you are short on believers here, I'm pleased to offer you something to discuss in january 2024, my prediction for 2023
  • SQ42 beta end of 2023, early 2024
  • Vulkan late this year
  • Second system late 2023, early 2024
  • iCache a huge mess at start, good tech at the end of 2021 PES released, sorry to not let this one
  • real components in ships
  • power management in ships
  • some animals and créatures on planets (no clue about this but I've a good feeling about it 😊)
Like the majority of the new batch of summer children who've appeared over the last couple of years, you have the misunderstanding that 'star citizen' is about the continued and painful development of a space game. It's not; the entire process to date has been about building the Empire of Roberts as a business venture. The development of a space game (or two) is merely the means to realise the business ambitions, nothing more..

I'm not a game developer...but I have experience in building a profitable business and what I've seen from the actions of Roberts and Co over the last ten years is the architecture and machinations of building this successful business venture...not game development 🤷‍♂️

And please... cease this prattling about 'believers' like you're the unfortunate and singular born again entity posting here. Some of us...and by some of us... I mean those of us who are entirely critical of the business practises of Ci~G (as a company) and especially the continuation of this cult behavior behind the Empire of Roberts... yet still remain regular players and continued supporters of this idea of the game of star citizen. We've done so by putting our money where our mouths (and dreams) are. All of this preaching to the choir you continue to indulge in on this forum is merely soap boxing on the wallets of others who've gone before.

You want to feel born again? Go buy an Idris, then come back on here and preach...

You don't know me so. I often talk about tech, engine, tools, industrialisation, the cost of building studios around the world, etc because I know it's the main goal of CR. He is building a gamestudio and he wants it to be on par with Rockstar and I have absolutely no problem with that.
He's building 1 mmo and 1 solo campaign as the 2 first products of his studio but they will not be the last if he succeed. SQ42 release will be the product to define if CIG is a valuable company or not for the market.

To be on par with any game studio, he first has to release a game...any game. Even the poorest of indie studios around the globe have managed at least that much...most of them several times in the 10+ years the idiot Roberts has been lining his pockets, building his Empire and releasing a grand total of zero products. 🤷‍♂️

Chris Roberts hasn't released...or finished... a single game through any game development studio he's created or been involved with in over 20 years...looks like that's not going to change much this decade either. Meanwhile, all those game development studios I keep reading about as being cited in comparison to the Empire of Roberts have released not one...but several multi-million dollar grossing titles one after the other.

Since you quoted tech or game engines...most of these other game studios have developed and built either completely new game engines or continually developed their own bespoke engines to include any and all new technological advancements in game design over the last 10 years...namely gen 12 compatability, converting from 32 bit to 64 bit, RTX and DLSS support, VR support and implementation...the list is endless. During the same timescale, Ci~G haven't managed to finalise one single element of working core tech to enhance or modify an already established game engine...

Unless Ci~G somehow get rid of this wastrel and the likeminded bean counting sycophants that plague this company, star citizen (and more than likely, Sqn 404) will never come to fruition as released products during my lifetime. :)

And ? It will be SQ42 that will mark the birth (or death) of CIG in the market. As you said, for now they are not yet a game studio because no product released. But the studio is well in its tracks. Like it or not, CR will release SQ42 only when he think it can sustain the comparison with the solo campaign of GTA or, now, Starfield.
For the 10 years in the making, imagine Rockstar starting from 0 (10 guys, no building, no proprietary engine, etc) and deciding to release GTA 5. How many years do you think they need to release it if money is not a problem ?
CIG have the money and CR had decided to target directly an AAAA product. Not one product will be out before the first AAAA will be released by CIG.

You're still citing long established game studios and their extremely profitable released products in comparison to a company that has and will more than likely never produce a working game...far less a marketable one. Sqn 404 as a AAAA rated game? That's not only disingenuous to those other game studios and their wonderful games, it's downright insulting to both them and my intelligence. Why don't you cite biscuit manufacturers or woolen mills as a direct comparison instead? They're about as likely to develop and release a multi-million dollar grossing game as Ci~G is 🤭

There is a reason i blocked you, and that was because of the absoloute drivel and false equivalences you spout. But sometimes i take a peek and my mind is constantly broken by your comments.

Rockstar (or DMA) didn't start by promising the moon, taking in half a billion dollars from people or publishers, and failing to deliver a working product for 10 years. They started by making something they could deliver on, starting small and building their way up, and what really got them their fame and fortunate was the first GTA game (although they did some good games prior to that).

What CR did was take a 10 year hiatus from the industry, returned declaring he could form a company and within 2-3 years make a game that was better than anything else out there. He got more money than he said he needed and failed to deliver on what he had promised. Instead of accepting that and instead asking backers for a bit more money to make the game as initially pitched, he doubled down and asked for more money and expanded the scope further (while promising expanding the scope would not increase the time of delivery of what was promised - absoloute idiocy as any project manager can tell you). And then he did it again and again and again - more money, more scope, and still failing to deliver even a tenth of what was promised.

Under a traditional funding model (like what happened with Freelancer) he would have be bounced out of the company years ago. But backers aren't rational actors like real publishers are, and instead keep forgiving CR for his failures by rewarding him with more and more money while CR continues to fail to deliver.

There are only 2 possible reasons you can be willing to spout such absoloute tosh. One, you are a false actor, or two, you are so far down the copium rabbithole that no amount of rational debate will help you see the reality of the situation.

Mill? As in "powered by wind or water"? Or is something actually milled in the process? I think there is some combing and then pretty much spinning.

Star Citizen is an early access game (at early-alpha stage of development), and imo does count as released albeit in a very-incomplete state.
It will be SQ42 that will mark the birth (or death) of CIG in the market.
Nah. Regardless of what state Sq42 launches in (assuming it does), it won't be the death of CIG in the market. The birth of CIG in the market happened when SC released as early-access: when Alpha 3.0 launched in December 2017.

CR will release SQ42 only when he think it can sustain the comparison with the solo campaign of GTA or, now, Starfield.

Never then. Thanks for the confirmation.

This. Please PetiteFourmi, meticulously read this one. Then think twice or more before posting anything else on the subject in this thread.

You know that it can be then "never" there are always new games coming out, and if Roberts insists being on par with them it may well happen that SQ42 is not released ever. Because "oh no they released GTA6, we need as much and even more shiny stuff as it has..." One is racing against moving finish line.
