Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

At the time the message Chris had about bringing PC gaming back really struck a cord with everyone.

Ah, yes, one of the best bits about the CR con job.

Basically appeal to the gamer's constant sense of gaming is rubbish, it needs someone to make good games again, and then declare only he could save it, like a messiah.

Turns out he wasn't a messiah, only a very naughty boy.

Also turns out gaming didn't actually need saving either, every year sees good new games released, minus the game(s) that CR promised would save PC gaming.

Alpha 3.18 - PTU Update 3 - The Home Stretch

Star Citizen Alpha 3.18 is nearly out the door and on the live servers. As we mentioned earlier this week in This Week in Star Citizen, we'd like to team up with you for the final push. Over the weekend we are planning to run some critical stress tests on the PTU, starting on Friday. We're putting out the call for as many of you as possible to grab your sword, bow, axe, Pico plushie, or whatever else you've got on hand, and join us!
And my axe! (Fun fact, John Rhys-Davies, who plays Randall Graves in Squadron 42, played Gimli in Lord of the Rings!)

This is a genius idea and I can foresee no issues...

AI Tech began February by completing the NPC Transit feature, which manages elevators and trains. Now, NPCs will understand if a transit carriage is present at their location and whether they can move directly inside, if they need to wait, or if they should press a button to call it. They will also understand when they’ve arrived at their destination and will move outside. While in the carriage, NPCs will look for a usable and idle there until they reach their destination. Upon completion, the feature was passed to Design, following which AI Tech addressed feedback and fixed bugs.

EDIT:

Lol 😁

February saw the Arena Commander team continuing to develop the Laying the Foundations deliverables for an upcoming patch

Dear gods! They are planning on having NPCs getting on and off trains???? Are they mad????

Also, laying the foundations on AC? How long ago was that released? 8 years? Or they mean laying the foundations for a patch, which in itself sounds ridiculous.

This is the most ignorant thing I have ever seen, no they won't, they are programmed to react to inputs, they do not "understand", this would take a level of AI that's beyond anything we currently have anywhere in the world.....I mean literally....never been done before, anywhere.

Personally i'd give them a pass on this. Its just semantics and marketing speech. Par for the course with CIG, but nothing inherently wrong with saying they understand. I might use the same word if i was implementing a code to do something similar. I've done simple AI coding for NPCs myself, and its not unreasonable to use that word.

Yeah I agree, in this case "understand" just means there is some logic in the code that tells them what to do. It doesn't imply sentience

However in GIG speak, understand probably means stand in a T pose, then fall under the floor :ROFLMAO:
